About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sharmaine R0 contributionsHad an amazing time biking around Napier! We had a fantastic time biking around Napier—the views were absolutely stunning! My husband had a flat tire twice, but the staff were incredibly kind, promptly picking us up and fixing it. Great service and a wonderful experience overall!Written 13 February 2025
- marykX5623XT0 contributionsCycling extravaganza!Your service is amazing! Jan is extremely knowledgeable, efficient and very friendly! Our e bikes were outstanding, well serviced and so reliable. It made our 55 kms ride along the ocean and through the wineries more exceptional. Jan was punctual in picking us up at Black Barn. On the way back to Napier, he was awesome and helpful in providing information about Napier and Hawkes Bay. We would use them EVERY TIME!Written 6 February 2025
- richardnE4688CI0 contributionsHighly recommendEasy online booking, well-equipped bike, good map, excellent trails, highly recommended. Location is right opposite the cruise port drop-off point, and pricing is fair.Written 1 February 2025
- janez9830 contributionsA perfect day along the coast. The owner is extremely helpful and answers emails quickly. He had our bikes ready to go and really cares about his customers ( will even pick you up if anything goes wrong). We had a wonderful ride down the coast to Clearview winery and a wonderful lunch. The bikes come with gel seats, helmet, maps, locks, and a carrier that holds 5 bottles of wine (we only put one in and two bottles of water). Prices are very reasonable and we would use them again. The route is flat and about 1 1/2 - 2 hours each way plus lunch.Written 31 January 2025
- rseedy20 contributionsAbove and beyondThese guys are great! Equipment was perfect for the task. Suggested bike ride was exactly what we were looking for. We were able to leave unneeded items at the shop and all Of their food and sightseeing suggestions were spot on. After we departed, I noticed I had left some personal equipment in the store and they were most helpful in shipping it to me at a different location. These guys are the real deal!Written 26 January 2025
- Jan J0 contributionsGood place to hire bikes.Bikes were in great condition. I had an e-bike (for first time) and my husband had had the trail hike. Friendly service and happy to provide trail information. Great day out, recommended.Written 28 December 2024

- yvonneh6230 contributionsWow x 1,000,000!!!Oh my goodness, we thought we wouldn’t be able to top the eco zip line tour in Auckland, but then we did the tour in Napier with the group from Napier City Bike Hire and tours. 🤩👌After getting off the Princess Cruise liner we were picked up by their shuttle bus and taken to the beginning of the tour. The staff and owner were so friendly, professional and, both obviously and understandable, very proud of Napier. The e bikes were of a very high quality (my husband works in the industry). The staff took us on an adventure of a life time. The bike track snakes along the shores of Napier. The only problem being that the views were so spectacular that we were finding it hard to concentrate 😀. The shuttle bus then took us to the breathtaking mission winery where we were wined and dined with some amazing food and wine (you could also purchase some and get it sent to you if you’re interested). The crew gave us some local knowledge of the shops/history of Napier, including recent storms and earthquakes. We were so very blessed to have done this tour. My other family members went privately and not with this tour group, but we noticed they had none of the local knowledge/ history which makes Napier the treasure it is. Thank you.🙏Written 4 November 2024
- TanyaL17050 contributionsFun activity for all agesGreat friendly service. Bikes were in great condition and easy to ride even for my 80 year old mum who was a bit nervous. We had a lovely day following the trail to Clearwater winery and back again. Would definately recommend as a great way to see the sights and visit wineries.Written 4 May 2024
- TammyL4630 contributionsGreat way to enjoy the outdoorsRented the bikes and rode to the winery. Bikes were in really good shape and check in was easy. They ask where you would like to go and provide a map. The day we went it was very cold so riding against the wind to the winery was very cold. The scenery was great and pedal assist on the bike was very helpful. It took about 2 1/2 hours to get to the winery. Once we got there we decided we did not want to ride all the way back and called the company to see if they could pick us up. They did for a fee but did seemed annoyed about doing it.Written 9 April 2024
- tonymI9445OH0 contributionsGood bikes, easy to deal with company. RecommendedHired e-bikes for 5 days to do some of the Hawke’s Bay trails. Hiring process was very straight forward and we were given a tutorial on how to use the bikes safely and effectively. We cycle regularly but this was our intro to e-bikes. The bikes were very good and the trails in the area are largely off-road so ideal for people of all ages and cycling experience. Happy to recommend this company if you considering hiring bikes in Napier.Written 27 March 2024
- RKHOOKER0 contributionsBest Activity To Do In NapierWithout a doubt this is the best activity to do in Napier. Even better if you’re getting off a cruise ship as the cruise ship shuttle drops you off right across the road from the bike shop. We booked our e-bikes online about 10 days before we arrived. Cost was roughly $90AUD for 8 hours. The bikes were in top condition, & the helmets looked & smelt like new. The e-bikes were very easy to control & ride. People of all ages & biking ability can do this activity safely. We were given a map with heaps of dedicated bike paths/trails to explore. We took the 57 km return trip to Cape Kidnappers & it was an incredible experience. Generally a very flat ride with amazing scenery all around. Next time we come back to Napier we’ll explore many of the other different paths. Can’t wait!Written 22 March 2024
- John B0 contributionsGreat bike hire located on waterfrontEasily located on waterfront, staff were helpful and of good nature making sure bike and helmet were setup correctly. Map provided and off we went. Great route along some very picturesque coastline. Team were very punctual to ensure pick at last winery pre 4pm to get us back to cruise ship . Recommended to all as very flat and easy leisurely ride.Written 17 March 2024
- helenkendrick0 contributionsNapier city bikes waterways bike tourWe made the booking on line. So the bikes were all ready for us when we arrived along with maps. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We cycled through lovely scenery and visited two wineries the first was the Mission Estate winery were the views were beautiful, we tasted four different wines and we were provided with written information about them. We then visited Church road winery which was in a beautiful spot. We tasted five wines and had a very informative talk about how to taste wines from one of the members of staff who was from Canada he was extremely knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.Written 11 March 2024

The bike shop is right across the street from the tourist information center on a pretty art deco along the coast line. The bike path takes you south along the coast on a very flat and mostly pretty ride with a few toilets and water stops along the way. There is a beautiful stretch of nature preserve and agricultural fields after the river that is stunning.
You might want to make a reservation for lunch at one of the 3 big wineries prior to leaving the bike shop. It will take 90 minutes plus to reach them. The ride back was into the wind which made the trip harder than it should have been.

Thank you for sharing your experience at the bike shop and along the coast. It's great to hear that you enjoyed the bike ride.
Making a reservation for lunch at one of the wineries is a great idea on weekends and holidays. I'm sorry to hear that the ride back was harder due to the wind, but I hope it didn't detract too much from your overall experience.
Thank you for taking the time to write this review and share your insights with others. We hope to see you again soon at the bike shop!

A lovely day out on good bikes to some excellent wineries and having the minibus to pick us up was most welcome. Downside is the route includes a section going through an industrial area but after that it is lovely and the cycle path is good. Be aware though of timings. The company suggested lunch at the Hyyge Cafe, but after 2.5 hours we'd only reached the first winery, so you need to be a good and regular cyclist to do that.

Included in our trip, addional cost, was a drop off down the coast to the start point, ( there is the option to cycle down), a nice coffee shop for coffee before setting out, instructions given to us by Napier Bikes were good, also included a map, there were plenty of bike signs also, going to various locations
We had booked lunch at the Black Barn at the end where the pick up was back to Napier at 4.00pm
Good e-bikes, nice scenery, good service, we will use again

Although we did not get to go to the wineries (closed on Tuesday) we loved the cycling along the coast and our lunch at Hygge Cafe. Getting picked up and driven back to town was great. Highly Recommend o

Fantastic service and good bike selection. We were 5 in total, and required 4 electric and 1 ‘proper’ bike 😉. I did this all over the phone, giving the heights of all the riders and asked if the bikes could be delivered to our lodge. No problems there and bikes were delivered bang on time. A little tuition and we were off. We dropped the bikes back to hire depot, after a fantastic two days , visiting a few vineyards and a couple of cycle tours. Maps and information all given to us before setting off. We were even dropped back to the lodge free of charge. Thanks Napier City Bike Hire👍. Ps- locks and chargers are all part of the kit, with useful panniers.

We turned up without a booking - no problem. Really friendly and reassuring staff, who offered great advice on where to go and how long things may take.
We hired 2 E-Bikes and a pedal bike - all worked perfectly.
We did a return trip to Mission Estate, had an awesome lunch and came back all within the 4 hour hiretime.

This one of the best areas to cycle in NZ. This company was very professional again as I used them for the second time. Nothing was a problem. We cycled for 3 days and had a flat tire one day - they brought us a new bicycle in 30 min. Excellent service and good local knowledge.

This was the most amazing bike ride! We picked up our bikes and got instructions and a map/route from Napier City Bikes. We headed out and thoroughly enjoyed the remote bike path. The path rolls along farmland and coastal areas. Tons of wildlife to watch along the way. We stopped at a food truck we found along the way. The wineries near the end were beautiful properties. It was a very memorable excursion we are still talking about. There were maybe two spots we weren’t sure about and lost the path so be sure to clarify before you head out.

My wife and I had a great time going to 5 wineries in Napier via bike at our own pace. The bikes were in good shape, and the ride not too bad between the various wineries. They had bags on the bikes to store the wine which you purchased along the way. It was a very enjoyable day.

We rented bikes two days and took two separate routes. Each was beautiful and interesting and we tried five wineries and truly enjoyed. Have to say that, after a long and hot ride, the folks at Elephant Hill were a bit too snobby and would not make room for us for a tasting, even though the place was huge and only a few people were there. The folks in the shop were a bit less than friendly, however the overall experience was great.

If we are on a Royal Carribean cruise that ports from 9:30 to 4:00, is it easy to find the rental place from the port and get the full ride (or most of it) in before we have to be back?
