Awesome tour - great wine and gin!
A great tour. The host was exceptional, really informative, personalised the tour and went out of his way when one of our group left something behind. Good number in the group and we were lucky to have a great group of people. The Mission platter and tasting was awesome and great gin tasting too.

Lovely afternoon, great company, tasty wine!
Had a great afternoon on the tour. Ross was a really good tour guide, very knowledgable and accommodating, not to mention the complementary cheese and biscuits (phenomenal). All of the distilleries were lovely! Tasty wine, enthusiastic staff. Would highly recommend this tour.

      Wine Tasting with Friends
Our tour was great and thoroughly enjoyable. We tasted and learned about wines from the local region which was enlightening. We were also exposed to the local lifestyle and decor - a pleasant cultural experience.

Highly recommended tour and tour guide!
We absolutely enjoyed this tour, not only because of the beautiful wineries we visited and the delicious wines we tasted, but especially our knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide Ross Lepper. The cheese & crackers he served us at the last winery were just great. Many thanks again Ross! Highly recommended!

      A enjoyable and educational afternoon.
Ross kindly picked us up from our location at West Bay and took us to the Mission winery for a very enjoyable lunch, in a lovely location, which was a great start to our afternoon, the quality of the food was very high and well worth booking. After lunch we joined David from the Mission team who carefully explained the background to the winery, and each wine we then tasted, his extensive knowledge and pleasant manner made the whole experience very enjoyable. Ross then picked us up and took us through Napier, explaining about the earthquke damage and rebuilding. .We eventually stopped at the National Tobacco Company building that is noŵ an artisan gin producer. We then enjoyed sampling a number of gins, all with different botanicals creating drinks with unique characteristics, covering a wide range of different styles. From there we moved to the smaller family owned Askerne vineyard who produce a wide range of wines from their land, here we enjoyed further tastings with some excellent NZ cheeses. It was interesting to compare the difference between the two wine producers, both had supplied us with excellent quality wines to taste and showed how good the wines produced in NZ are. Two very happy individuals were then returned to our location. This was a wonderful afternoon, both educationally and for the excellent food and drinks we enjoyed, and is throughly recommended. Ross looked after us throughout the afternoon. 5 stars.

      An enjoyable lunch and afternoon
Ross picked us up from the hotel and took us to the Mission Estate for a lunch on their verandah. The location is lovely and the lunch platter was good and included a glass of wine. We were three couples who didn’t know each other but had a great ‘chatty’ lunch. After lunch we were joined by three other couples for the wine tastings. We started at the Mission Estate with their excellent guide (Jeff?) who talked us through the wines and history of the estate which was fascinating. We then moved by minibus to the Church Road Estate finishing at the Askerne Estate where we had cheese and crackers with our wine. Ross then dropped us all back into Napier. On our day the distillery wasn’t available so it was 3 vineyards which was fine for us. Ross was a great host and guide and meeting 5 other couples from around the world was great.

Great Wine Tour - Personal Service
Excellent afternoon touring 3 vineyards with our guide and owner Ross. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to help us with a very remote pick up and a little tour as he dropped us off at the marina after the tasting. He clearly knows his stuff and all the wine hosts in the area, which made for a great day. We were one of three couples on the tour, so it felt like a private tour. Highly recommended. Many thanks again Ross!

Great days wine & gin tasting
A fantastic day out in the Hawkes Bay tasting wine and gin. First stop was New Zealand’s oldest vineyard, The Mission Estate for a delightful platter lunch followed by a tasting of five different and excellent wines. On to the National Distillery Co Ltd for gin tasting. Again we tasted five excellent products in an extraordinary art nouveau building, once the home of Rothmans and Benson & Hedges cigarettes. Final stop was Askerne Winery where Tour host Ross Lepper treated us to another fine platter of biscuits and cheeses. Most on the tour party agreed Askerne Winery was a little average. Ross was knowledgeable, entertaining and highly professional. A great way to spend and afternoon in the Hawkes Bay.

Awesome afternoon wine and gin tasting!!
We’ve just got back to our hotel after a great day of wine and gin tasting with Ross. Ross was great, lovely transport and lots of chat between each stop. The lunch platter at Mission Estate was plentiful and really tasty. We couldn’t finish it. All the tastings were really interesting and not rushed. Plenty of time to enjoy and ask lots of questions. Gin tasting was a highlight but to be honest, the entire afternoon was fabulous. Totally recommend!!

      Great afternoon in Napier
We thoroughly enjoyed the Napier Gourmet Lunch and Wine tour with Ross. The lunch was substantial and delicious, and a great way to get things started. We especially enjoyed the tasting at Mission Estate, and the gentleman pouring the wine there was extremely knowledgeable and informative. We were a group of around seven, and my husband and I had a great time getting to know everyone during the tastings. We were also pleasantly surprised to find there was a gin tasting as well, what a treat! Ross provided cheese and crackers at our last tasting (which was outdoors) which was a really nice way to finish the day. We highly recommend this tour

Booked this tour through GetYourGuide and it worked perfectly, but you can book directly with Ross as well. I was quickly put in direct contact with Ross, the owner of Vines and Views Tours. This communication was very useful and efficient - Ross is quick on the "reply-button".
The tour was not the usual one that Ross takes tourists on, which was caused by the cyclone damages on February 14, 2023. That being said: Ross had found a great alternative.
We went along the coast of Napier through small and posh villages and numerous apple farms - all the way up to the hill top at Cape Kidnappers (beautiful view point). All the way Ross was explaining about the area in his comfortable van.
From there on to the planned wine tasting at the ASKERNE Wine Farm, where we tried a number of both white, rose, red and sweet wines, which was great.
Now back towards Napier to have a small drive around the art-deco houses in the suburbs of Napier and then back into town to observe more art-deco style buildings (the latter were indeed more art-deco to me).
Ross left us where we started well ahead of the coming rain (and it came!!).
The tour was really good and I recommend Ross and Vines and Views Tours for travellers who want a reliable and very likeable person to take care of your excursion.

Hi there, ( I think Elizabeth ) thank you very much for your very comprehensive review. Your Shore Excursion was the first that I had lead since the cyclone which necessitated changing the itinerary. Your feed back on the hill top ( Te Mata Peak) and the wine tasting at Askerne Estate gives me the confidence to continue with the new program. Thanks again Cheers Ross

Hi Al, I am pleased that you enjoyed your Shore Excursion, it can be challenging coordinating timings between, tripadvisor and the arrival time of a cruise ship, if only they would alll arrive at the same time each day.

Ross picked us up promptly in his 14 seater van and provided us with an informal and most enjoyable, comprehensive tour. We drove past the Art Deco style business of the city then the houses in close proximity. Up the hill of the town for great views of the city and harbour. Then to vineyard and up a private track to top of hill in the property to view extensive landscape for miles. Wow! Then back down to a wine and crackers sit down in a private part of vineyard for Ross’s clients old. Very nice. More but do this and be pleased

We only had half a day in Napier due to our cruise itinerary, and we couldn't have picked a better tour! As a former local winery manager, having lived in Napier for many years, and a horticulturist by trade, Ross was a wonderful tour guide. He took us to a couple of excellent viewing spots where the main tour buses don't get to go, we visited a couple of wineries, had a delicious wine & cheese platter, and a great tour of the city! I just wish we had longer to explore (and try more wines!!).
