About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- martincS2512NK0 contributionsPerhaps visit later in the seasonVery extensive, varied and well kept. We perhaps visited too early in the season, when little was in bloom. Admission fee of $20pp (newly) applies to non-Hamilton residents. Cafe excellent and very good valueWritten 15 October 2024
- malcsaville0 contributionsDon't miss them!!We only visited the gardens by chance, and regard it as our lucky day! It is a wonderful place to visit, even if you do not get to go into the enclosed gardens, but they are by far the best bit: the locals are cross about the introduction of charges, but they are not unreasonable for what you get to see and the quality of their presentation. One surprise was the absence cherry blossom in the Japanese garden, but the chance to see gardens created from around the world, all in one place is amazing. Don't miss them!!Written 14 October 2024
- 910rachelh0 contributionsA must do in HamiltonBeautiful treasur eof a place and a must to do when in Hamilton. The enclosed gardens are fantastic and our favourites were surrealist, Italian Renaissance, Egyptian and Mansfield Gardens - just so impressive. A credit to HCC!Written 11 October 2024
- Helen B0 contributionsWorld classAlways surprised to find a new "room" added to the garden experience. Amazing inspiration and ideas to fascinate and entertain all ages. A maze of beautiful gardens from every culture and all parts of the world. A world class display, not to be missedWritten 1 October 2024
- sbj30 contributionsBeautiful experience. We enjoyed brunch in the cafe. There was a good selection and the food was excellent. Then we wandered through the gardens. A beautiful day and well worth travelling two hours to the gardens.Written 18 September 2024
- evertoncummings0 contributionsAuckland green gardensWell kept and smart all around some lovely trees and plants. The grounds men do a smashing job keeping all these beautiful gardens so fresh. This was a pleasure for me to visit and it’s seen what can be done if you have green fingers.Written 20 August 2024
- Cantor120 contributionsWonderful afternoon visiting the various gardensWhen we told people in Auckland that we were going to Hamilton they were surprised, but the gardens there totally justified our trip. They are wonderful. We visited in July so perhaps not the best time to see flowers. However, it was still very enjoyable. They are very well kept and easy to navigate. They are free to visit right now, but I heard they might start charging visitors soon.Written 10 August 2024
- Rae0880 contributionsStunningThis place was absolutely stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed this place and appreciate all the hard work that has gone into maintaining the gardens. Spring time must be amazing. We went quite early on a foggy day, so it was nice and quiet.Written 7 August 2024
- chrisr242360 contributionsHidden Gem in WaikatoThe mini gardens were lovely to stroll through. Lots of variety and more to come based on the signs we saw while there. You can easily spend 2+ hours here wandering around and checking out all the details.Written 26 July 2024
- catchfab0 contributionsDefinitely do.These gardens are lovely. So many different countries represented. It was great to see so many people out enjoying them. My favourite was the Surrealist Garden where the trees came to life… if you pay attention.Written 9 June 2024
- wadermay0 contributionsGreat afternoon visitSpent the afternoon roaming through these gardens. Very unique in that each themed garden is separated. Then had coffee and dessert in the cafe which was very good. Definitely put this on your New Zealand itinerary.Written 7 June 2024
- TheLeongOhana0 contributionsLots of Different Gardens to ExploreThe Hamilton Gardens was quite the popular spot when we arrived as the parking lot was full around lunchtime. When we finally found a spot and headed over to the garden entrance we found out that admission was free (even for non-residents). That was a nice savings of $20NZD pp but not sure how much longer that exception will last. There were 17 different gardens to explore, all different and a joy to wander through. Our top favorites were the following: Mansfield Gardens - According to the signage, the garden may have been influenced by a novel written by Katherine Mansfield. It included a home, grass tennis court, outdoor piano and more. Chinese Scholar's Garden with the pathways lined with towering bamboo. Italian Renaissance Garden with its villa facade, fruit trees and statues. Te Parapara Garden for inclusion of Maori culture and traditions. We spent almost 2 hours here before our stomach's required us to grab a late lunch. Definitely a must see when in Hamilton.Written 30 May 2024
- Wanderer012093037790 contributionsAbsolutely StunningAbsolutely stunning place to visit. Amazing ability to capture many international gardens. Highly recommend. I splash of paradise for free! 😍Written 28 May 2024
- Road554370776630 contributionsStunningSuch a beautiful relaxing space. You could spend ALL day here, we packed a lunch & sat beside the beautiful duck pond. Toilets readily available. Such beautiful different gardens. A few gardens were under construction/ so we missed out on seeing some, but that’s ok. If I lived in Hamilton / I would go all the time, as the gardens would be ever changing. A must see.Written 24 April 2024
- Mouzouris0 contributionsWorth seeing if in HamiltonWe stopped by on our way to Auckland from Rotorua. Pretty nice gardens and very relaxing to walk around and spend some time if you have. The cafe was also cool as it has a great view of a good size pond/lake ?Written 14 April 2024

The gardens defy description - so much to see, and the audio tour is well worth taking to hear the back storied to many of the gardens. And they are developing more gardens so I will have to go back.

Wait time about 50 min at 9 pm. Informative and entertaining. Something to do if you are up and about at night time. Very close to city center.
