A new adventure awaited us every day on this tour of the North and South Island. It was expertly led by our guide Andrew whose knowledge of this stunningly beautiful country in terms of its history, geography and geology was very impressive, although at times some more practical information would have been useful.
Being part of a relatively small group was definitely an advantage. We were able to access places more easily in a mini bus than in a large coach. This often required skilful driving which Andrew demonstrated admirably throughout the tour.
It also meant that we enjoyed quite exclusive experiences such as the private lunches, the catamaran and boat cruises and the scenic flight from Milford Sound.
All the hotels were in ideal locations, the trip was well paced with opportunities to just relax or sign up for the great optional activities on offer.
If I was to book a New Zealand tour again, it would be with MoaTrek!

Kia Ora and thanks so much for your review. We're so glad you enjoyed your tour. The best part of travelling in a small group is going to all those special spots the big coaches can't go, we wouldn't want to do it any other way! Ka kite anō, see you again.

Everything about this 16 day Kakariki tour was five star! The tour was well planned & executed. We hit many sites that I don’t think I would have found on my own. I definitely recommend purchasing some of the optional activities; they can add a lot to your trip. The hotels ranged from posh to simple but all were extremely clean & comfortable. Our tour guide, Matthew, went above & beyond to meet our needs, really taking care of everything. He was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor Our group, about half from the UK and half from Canada & US,were lots of fun Perfect all around!

Just home from our stunning 21 day tour of New Zealand. On our small-group coach tour, we couldn't have packed in more sights and experiences. The two islands are beautiful, and by choosing a coach tour with an experienced guide, we made sure that we saw the best of everything. Organisation from MoaTrek is outstanding and we were excellently looked after and guided throughout the tour.

Our tour group became like old friends within a remarkably short space of time and I have to pay special tribute to Paul, our guide/driver/resident comedian. Paul took us to all the best places (on and off piste - I didn't know a coach could do off-road!). It's a tough job keeping a group happy for three weeks, and I'm sure we were all glad that Paul was the one who volunteered!

We had thought about driving ourselves, but decided we would see more if we left the driving to somebody with more experience, and this turned out to be an excellent decision. We would never have seen all the sites and viewpoints, had all the experiences and found the best hotels without the expertise of MoaTrek and Paul.

Altogether a wonderful experience and we are sad that it is over.

Kia Ora Conrad and thanks for this thoughtful and detailed review. Paul's job description does include the word "comedian", you're right about that. We will have to talk to him about that "off roading" though! :) That's one reason we love our small groups so we can go down a few roads that the big coaches couldn't even consider. We're so glad you enjoyed it all, it does sound like you'll get withdrawal symptoms though so you'll have to come back and visit again. Safe travels and Ka Kite Anō.

My wife, Joanie, and I enjoyed an utterly amazing small group tour of both islands of New Zealand with MoaTrek. While I had never been on a group tour before and faced it with some trepidation, MoaTrek's itinerary, facilitated by our "Master Guide," Nigel, opened up places and experiences to us that we could never have managed on our own! I can't say enough about Nigel, who got to know each and every one of us and our personal interests and back stories," relating all that he opened up to us back to our personal interests. A true raconteur, Nigel, was a fount of background history and information of all we encountered. Our accommodations were wonderful, at times breathtaking, and we ended our trip feeling that we had experienced a comprehensive sampler of all that was singular, special, and extraordinary in New Zealand. It was a trip of a lifetime for me, and I now regard Nigel, our consummate guide, as a true Kiwi friend!! Thank You!!!

Kia Ora and thank you for this thoughtful and kind review. We know Nigel loves sharing the countryside with guests and everyone become friends in no time. You probably even got to share his famous beach BBQ or room parties, he's the true Kiwi host. Thanks and we hope to see you back again here in New Zealand one day soon. Ka kite anō.

Excellent small group tour of North & South Island. Our driver/guide, Nigel Murray went the extra mile to ensure all 17 people were very happy and informed. On evening 2 Nigel arranged a get together, with nibbles & drinks before dinner, to enable everyone to get to know the group. On our last evening together he also arranged a Pizza evening were we all recounted our favourite parts of the trip. If you want a no hassle, informed and fun tour of New Zealand then MoaTrek have got it 100%. The scenery was spectacular and the travel was superbly well organised. Thanks Nigel & MoaTrek!

Kia Ora and thanks for your review! Nigel is the total host isn't he, even hosting drinks and nibble in his room for everyone. That's going above and beyond! His BBQ on the beach in Punakaiki is always a highlight too. Thank you again and we hope to see you back in NZ again one day soon. Ka kite anō.

Just returned from an amazing 4 week vacation in New Zealand including the 21 day Kakapo tour with Moatrek. Shout out to both of our tour guides. Both Brent DeJongh and Andrew Millson were very knowledgeable in the numerous places we visited and made the trip very memorable through numerous stories and their humor as well as their responsiveness to any questions/concerns by the tour members. Some special memories included a visit to the Whangerei Native Bird Recover Centre, where we were able to get up close and personal with a Kiwi Bird named Sparky as well as other native NZ birds. As well as the visit to Milford Sound where we cruised by the amazing landscape followed by a flight back to Queenstown. There were many more special memories including the optional activities such as Maori village tour/peformance and Hangi Dinner in Rotorua, Dart River Jet Boat ride in Glenorchy , Heli-Hike on Franz Josef Glacier, a few Lord of the Rings/Hobbiton tours. etc. etc. etc. Thank you Moatrek team for a very well planned trip. One suggestion to improve this trip would be to have fewer one-night stays, just easier to travel where you spend a minimum of 2 nights at each stop, although I can't think of any day of the trip that I did not enjoy immensely. Kia Ora, Vinny.

Kia Ora Vinny and thanks for this detailed and considered review. We're so glad you enjoyed the trip and both our Kiwi Guides Brent and Andrew. You're right, it's always nicer to spend two nights in the same place, it's really tough to know where to spend less time as there are so many great spots to see all over the country. Thanks again and we hope to see you back here one day soon. Ka kite anō.

We did this 21 day tour with my sister and our hubbies. Our guide for most of the time was Chris Williams, a real bank of information, equipped with impeccable pacience and above all great stories with a twist of sparkling humour. The 21 day tour gives a good glimpse of what NZ is all about, the programme is varied and suitable for all tastes and interests. Accomodation was exceptionally well chosen for beauty and comfort. I highly recommend to book as many extra-activities outside the regular programme as possible - Moatrek helps with bookings and transportation all the way. This unique experience of seeing the beautizul NZ from north to south would have been a lot more challenging and arduous to organize on our own and we would not have gotten a more intimate insight on the NZ way of life without oyr wonderful guide Chris, and neither would we have met the really nice travelling companions from other corners of the world. Worth every penny!!!

Recently completed the 9 day Southern Beauty tour and what an amazing tour this was with such a lovely group of 18 people. This was our second trip with Moa and again it lived up to all our expectations with beautiful scenery, top notch accommodation and great meals, all included in the cost bar for the odd cup of coffee.

Had beaut weather at Mt. Cook where we saw it in brilliant sunshine and then when in Queenstown we did a fly over of the Southern Alps and Milford Sound, again in brilliant sunshine. Our very competent guide Andrew rescheduled this for us as bad weather was forecast for the intentioned day, so it all worked out brilliantly and we had a good flight and fantastic views.

Nothing was too much trouble for our driver and guide, Andrew, who was very informative, a careful driver and a fun person to have as a guide. Thanks Andrew for a great tour and hopefully we will get to travel with you again. Susan and Clif.

We saw a lot of this fabulous country. Much more than we could have when on our own, also thanks to our guides. Having two guides, Brent and Andrew made our journey a great one. Brent gave us the Kiwi-style, passionate, overactive, funny, well-organized, much caring and knowledgeable. Andrew gave us the mix of Kiwi and English styles, relaxed, highly knowledgeable, honest, dedicated to NZ. We enjoyed our tour so much that we do want to return to NZ, but the long trip home (30 hours) prevents us from doing that too soon. But we will be back and view at Moa Trek for other tours possibilities.

Kia Ora and thanks so much for taking the time to write this review. It wasn't planned for you to have two guides, as you know Andrew was under the weather and Brent stepped in for the Northern section. We're so grateful to have such an awesome team of guides like these guys and glad you enjoyed everything. We hope you had lots of good memories to look back on and one day we will see you again. This was my first solo trip after losing my wife and was also my first group tour. It was excellent in its scope and delivery. The accommodation was well chosen, particularly as regards location. Our driver/guide, Di, was first rate: she made the trip even more enjoyable with her good humour, knowledge and flexibility.
All the options of additional activities were well chosen and realistically priced. The only disappointment was the weather at Mount Cook and Franz Josef, which meant no walking in glaciers, but that is the luck of the draw in those areas.
I’d recommend the 21 day tour as a first rate way to see the amazing country that is New Zealand.

Kia Ora and thanks for this review. Love our TripAdvisor handle! We're guessing that's from you being the "chief" of the MoaTrek group for the Māori greeting at Rotorua. Travelling with Dianne is like having instant NZ family. Thanks for choosing our tour and we hope to see you back here again one day soon. Ka kite anō.
