An Auckland native, he indulged our group in a ton of local history, both related to each drinking establishment and New Zealand as a whole. Darcy was an excellent guide and in addition to being knowledgeable and friendly, had a great sense of humor. It was one of the highlights of our trip and definitely the highlight of Auckland. I liked the stories about the women in New Zealands history and it was great to try different New Zealand beers, the bars even let us sample some extra ones. Darcy is very personable, and it was great to support a small business.Written 27 February 2019
- Bernadette G0 contributionsWhere history meets kiwi beerAuckland's historic bar tour is an incredibly fun way to get to know New Zealand history and the kiwi evolution of beer. The path takes you through the CBD to different historic bars, that a tourist might easily pass by. Darcy is a wonderful host, and holds a plethora of different information. It was great to get to know the city and beer through and Auckland native, and to top it all off, each beer was unique and delicious! Absolutely recommend!Written 21 February 2019

We met lovely people, discovered New Zealand beers and felt the history contained within the walls. I had passed by lots of interesting things and not realised it before I did this tour. I liked the stories and as well as that the drinks were fresh and tasty. This event is a good balance of chilled out moments and learning more about Auckland City. We learnt about Auckland form the very beginning when settlers arrived through until today.Written 3 January 2019

We met Darcy for the shooting of a report we were doing for the french public television and we absolutely enjoyed every bit of the time we spent with him. He took us to the most historical bars of Auckland, shared with us his huge knowledge on his country & his city and provided great information on the subject we were working on (the six O' clock swill !). If you want to to get to know the story of the bars of the city, the story behind them, taste the best local beers and also learn a lot about New Zealand having great fun, he is the man you need ! Darcy is a great storyteller and a cool fellow and his tour is thrilling, original and full of humour. Highly recommended !

Thank you very much, I'm looking forward to seeing what you made! I'm also looking forward to when we can all travel again and to welcoming some more French guests on to the tour. It was great to spend time with you and to show you the interesting and unusual history of both New Zealand and the 6oclock swill. Stay safe, and with luck we will see you in New Zealand again soon.

I've lived in Auckland for 4 1/2 years and I learnt more on this tour than I have the whole time I've been here! The selection of bars we went to were awesome and lots of interesting facts were told not only in the bars but whilst transitioning through the city. The selection of beers were local and tasty, and it felt good to be supporting local business too. Although a troubling time for the tourism industry in New Zealand, Darcy was a positive tour guide and really relaxed into the group. We all had a laugh and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something different to do.

Really learned a lot even though I've lived in Auckland for 10 years. The tour was very relaxed and had a great atmosphere throughout. I loved the bars we visited and sampled a variety of delicious beverages along the way. Darcy was very engaging and the stories told were both relevant and interesting. Definitely an interesting and different way to spend an evening. I had a great time, met some new people and very much enjoyed myself.

We met Darcy for a shooting for a French documentary on the 6 o'clock swill. We visited the most historical pubs of Auckland and were able to tell the story the best way we could.
He's also a fine story teller himself and has heaps of knowledge about the Auckland pubs History.
Thanks to him for this great shooting.

Darcy, our tourguide, is just the personification of the perfect tourguide. We had great laughs, amazing beer, easy chats and learned a lot about Aucklands history. Also the price is pretty fair! Just for the offered drinks you almost pay the same amount. So far the most interesting thing I have done in Auckland.

Beers? Check. History? Also check. Awesome tour guide? Yep, that too. This is as much a drinking experience as it is a historical tour. You learn a bit about Auckland's history while getting to sample some craft beers along the way. Darcy took us to several bars that I would otherwise have not discovered along the way. Thanks for a great time. Highly recommended!

Had a fantastic time on the Auckland Historic Bar tour. I highly recommend the tour, great for beer lovers and history buffs. Our host Darcy was great, he obviously has a passion of the past, which he explains with enthusiasm. As an Aucklander it was great to explore parts of Auckland I didn't know existed, I will be venturing out to some of those new places soon, thanks for a great evening.

It was great to have you along and it is always a source of pride for us when we are able to show people who call Auckland their home things that are new and unexpected. New Zealand history although new is fascinating and we are glad that you agree. Thank you for supporting us, New Zealand small business, the preservation of historic buildings, and hospitality.
