This is the tour group to pick for Hobbiton.
I am so glad I picked the Cheeky Kiwi tour. The small tour size really enhanced the experience. Our guide Grant was knowledgeable and friendly. We got an equally small tour size once at Hobbiton. I recommend wholeheartedly. This was the highlight of my small stay in Auckland.

        Magic of Hobbiton
The tour as a whole was very organized. It was a comfortable and amusing ride to Hobbiton. Thanks to Don who entertained us with some Māori songs and a bit of New Zealand history. He has a beautiful voice! I followed his tip and sat at the right side just behind the bus driver and the view was amazing! Visiting Hobbiton is a dream come true. Having seen the magic of Hobbiton, I can honestly say that I made the right choice with Cheeky Kiwi. I just wish we had more time taking photos. I felt that we had to rush because other tour groups are coming right behind us already. The ginger ale served at the green dragon inn was perfect. Must try! And that ice cream stop on the way back to Auckland was just so refreshing after a long day! Highly recommended tour. Good job, Cheeky Kiwi!

        Great experience !
I did the tour starting from Auckland and including the hobbiton movie set and the te puia tour. The guide (Greg) did a great job and was a big factor in this tour being an awesome experience. He made everyone welcome and took the time to discuss with everyone. He also told us some of his best stories about rotorua, the hobbiton movie set as well as New Zealand more generally. He also taught us some words in Māori which I thought was great. Even as a solo traveller it was great to take the tour as the guide took the time to have a chat. The bus was overall comfortable and far from overbooked with plenty of space for everyone. I recommend this tour as the visit of hobbiton and te puia were great too (different companies of course but worth the visit, I’ll make sure to leave a comment to them too) Perhaps next time I’ll come back for the gloworm cave tour ! This tour was really worth the money!

        Enchanting Journey Through Hobbiton
Hobbiton was a truly beautiful experience, particularly for fans of the movies. Watching The Hobbit films before visiting the set is highly recommended, as it adds to the relatability of the experience. Our tour guide, Don, made the journey even more enjoyable with his delightful personality.

        Habbiton Waitomo
In addition to Hobbiton and Waitomo (which were beautiful other-worldly experiences), the tour guide was excellent. He was engaging and really cared about giving us a worthwhile experience. I recommend this tour.

        Well organized tour
Our tourguide, Grant was the best. Kind, funny and extremely prepared with facts and trivia. There were no delays, the tour was very well-organized, allowing enough time to watch the two attractions and we also had sufficient 10-15 min breaks during the trip to grab breakfast and have a quick lunch. The van was also comfortable. Thanks Grant and Cheeky Kiwi for this memorable day!

        Should consider it.
Had a really good experience on this tour. Hobbiton was awesome, Caves were just okay (I had been there before - 50 years ago, and seemed to remember them as more impressive). Thought that maybe we would think the reverse but not so. long day so be prepared for some seat time. Got to see a lot of pretty country.

        Greg driver/guide, par excellence.
Wonderful trip, great hosting especially by driver cum guide Greg Leneham. He made sure our trip was conducted efficiently and interestingly. He was caring, punctual and jovial and added value to the tour. The journey itself was comfortable and the experience inside the cave was sublime

Rotorua Tour With Wai o Tapu and Te Puia
I booked a trip to Rotorua with a visit to Wai o Tapu and Te Puia and it was fantastic. On the one hand, both places are really beautiful and worth visiting. On the other hand, the driver, Grant, was fantastic! He was extremely kind, a very good guide as, on the way, he commented on what we were seeing. I highly recommend it. Everything was very well organized and we didn't queue anywhere. Go for it!

        Unforgettable Trip to Hobbiton!
Overall all is good. The pickup time was supposed to be 6am, but they gave 2x notifications few days before and a day prior that it’s moved to 5.40am. We went to Hobbiton and Waitomo Glow worm cave. Had some snacks along the way and was provided with a bottle of water. On our way back, we managed to stopped for a while to check out a couple of Ostriches! Thanks Josh.

had a wonderful day. Waitomo caves are interesting, the glow worms cave structure was explained by the local guide and it's really beautiful. Te Puia was also suprising. Because of COVID restrictions, we coudn't enjoy the buffet, neither the Maori performance, but the guide gave us other tracks around Rotorua. Cheeky Kiwi is reliable and safe. Michael was our guide and was very attentive, good driver, kind, respectful, informative, and a good photographer! I really appreciated and recommend the company.

Two venues were great, drive long and overall felt expensive without the Moari experience. Local guide at the Caves was outstanding wonderful storyteller. Felt like floating under the stars. 10/10. Rotorua was cool good guide. Meal good and cultural college interesting, but lacking with no performance.

Trip out and back were a grind. Driver Jon/Ron? took backroads out and talked about himself alot. He was nice enough, but had a difficult time driving, headset talking and maintaining consistent speed. At first rest stop he made a point to tell people that it wasn't his fault we were late. He said first pickup was late however we received pickup times of 6:15 and 6:30. We were in lobby at 6:16 then had to wait for several other groups at other hotels. His statement was untrue and disrespectful. He shared he had 2 speeding tickets so driving routes and speed varied to avoid another. He also asked people to give him a good review as he gets a lot of undeserved complaints. Time in Rotorua spend on hotel drops.

Completed this tour on 31 March 2023
We were 6 people (3 couples) in our group and had 15 people in the whole group.
The driver/guide Mr Grant from Cheeky Kiwi Travel picked us up near Holiday Inn Express, Auckland CBD. He was prompt and courteous. The van was comfortable.
Mr Grant was very informative and gave us a great narration of New Zealand's history, culture and present facts.
The visit to the Waitomo Glowworm caves was amazing and a wonderful experience.
The drive to Rotorua was nice and the Lunch at Te Puia was very good. The tour around the Geothermal geysers was awesome and the visit to the Arts & crafts center was a great experience and visibility into the skill of the Maori people and culture.
Only disappointment was the Maori cultural show was cancelled, this would have made it a complete experience.
      Overall a worthwhile trip.

The tour was great, and Simon was really knowledgeable. Be warned, you can't take photos in the Waitomo Caves (except for a small bit at the very end), but it's pretty challenging to take photos of glow worms anyway, so suck it up. Te Puia was really interesting, but make sure to get the buffet add-on -- it was only marginally more than I paid for a frozen danish in the cafe, where options are very limited. Overall, the experience was brilliant and highly recommended.

A very enjoyable day. Highly recommended. Our tour guide, Brendan, went out of his way to ensure we were able to enjoy all that Te Puia had to offer, the traditional meal, the Maori dance show and the guided tour. The Waitomo caves were enchanting so this tour is perfect for travellers short on time who want to see both attractions in a single day. It does make for a long day, no early supper reservations back in Auckland!

Our tour guide, John, was an absolute legend. My boyfriend and I enjoyed his humour and fun facts throughout the day. Although we had to wake up quite early for the day tour, the commentary, great banter and service made it worth it. We had a nice pitstop on the way to grab some fresh air (with some coffee for those who drank it) and made our way to Waitomo. The weather was not favourable for most of the trip but it did not hinder the wonderful time we had in the caves. It was spectacular. We hopped back on the tour for a three hour ride to Te Puia, in which we got a bit of sunshine and John showed us some quirks in Rotorua and surrounding towns. Te Puia was great, seeing the arts and craft institutes and geysers was amazing even in the rain. They even had kiwis breeding at the time. The three hour ride back was completed with some ice cream and more of John’s wonderful banter as we finished the tour on a happy note back at our hotel.

The van was 25 minutes late picking us up. To make up for that, we did not have a break between the drive from Auckland to Waitomo to get food, beverages, or use a restroom.

Our van was uncomfortable. The sound system did not work, so people in the back could not hear the driver's commentary. I use the term "driver" intentionally, because Mark/Marc is clearly not a professional guide. He's nice enough, but totally unable to manage the schedule. Beyond the broken mic system, the A/C was on the fritz, leading to a hot journey at times.

Worst of all, the timing didn't make any sense. The tour company should not sell the option for three activities because it is not possible to do them all. The five of us who paid for all three activities missed out kn all of them. We had 15 minutes to scarf down lunch. We had to walk out of the cultural show midway through it. And we missed half of the time with the Maori guide (who was excellent) showing people around Te Puia.

To be sure, it the destinations are interesting and worth visiting. Just do so with a different company since this one charged for things on which they could not deliver. The entire day was poorly organized and mismanaged.

Minibus trips like these are fantastic if you're happy to make friends with fellow travellers. I was privileged enough to meet the Manila Neighbourhood Watch, as well as other groups of travellers who joined the tour and made the experience so memorable and wholesome. Our chatty guide, Cameron was also very knowledgeable and engaging. Being around him made the long drives feel so much more entertaining. The first time I booked a transfer with CheekyKiwi was from Mt Cook to Queenstown. Did not regret that at all. In fact it was a shame I couldn't secure a booking with them to visit the Milford Sounds!

All in all, I would totally recommend Cheekykiwi if you're touring New Zealand and aren't intending to drive your own car. It makes for a much more comfortable and relaxed experience, and in my experience, you're guaranteed that your trip would be safe, friendly, and full of energy.

The minibus is also extremely clean. Spick and span. I've had no issues taking photos of the beautiful scenery from within the vehicle, since the windows were well maintained and cleaned prior to the morning pick-up. No complaints at all, only an absolutely memorable trip to add to the list. I enjoyed every bit of the trip with Cameron, as he's such an entertaining conversationalist. And if you're reading this, the snapper and chips are absolutely delicious!

It was a highly disorganized tour . We were given only 20 minutes to have food which we paid separately for rushed to a maori show and then rushed to the te pau tour . There should be given enough time to take restroom breaks at least . Also did not like the tone of the tour guide he was quite rude .

We went on this tour as part of a belated honeymoon and we had a wonderful experience. Malcolm was a knowledgeable, attentive and kind guide with a great sense of humour. He managed to keep us on time while not making us feel rushed at any point. The caves are spectacular - a must see in my opinion and the addition of a Maori song in the cathedral was poignantly emotional. Te Puia was beautiful and our guide there kept us well-entertained with his storytelling ability - managing to keep our attention despite some sweltering weather! I'll never forget this tour, thank you for everything.
