- GrandTour284269612370 contributionsGreat tour guideDane is a great tour guide. Well organized and details in explaining each trip. We arrived on time and happy with the trip.Written 7 February 2025
- Sandie B0 contributionsA great re-visitHobbiton is a great Movie set which I first visited several years ago with grandsons. This time it was wonderful to visit the red and green house with so much authentic furnishings. This is an awesome fantasy set even if you have never seen the Tolkien inspired movies or read the books. We had the very knowledgeable driver, Matt whose NZ history was especially helpful along with the equally knowledgeable Dom at Hobbiton. A wonderful day!Written 7 February 2025
- S3146EGcarolynb0 contributionsTen out of Ten.We found the trip to be a marvellous experience. Malcolm, our driver, was very informative , sharing with us many interesting titbits about the areas we visited, and more. He was extremely professional and efficient, keeping us on our timetable. We really appreciated Malcolm picking us up and dropping us off at a different location that was more convenient for us.Written 7 February 2025
- c a0 contributionsOk way to get from Auckland to RotoruaA decent way to get from Auckland to Rotorua but I wish the van had been a bit more comfortable given it’s a pretty long ride. Also - and perhaps I missed it in the description - but would’ve liked to have known that we’d make stops - approximately when and what was available at the stops.Written 7 February 2025
- V412DSgaryc0 contributionsVery nice New Zealand excursion! Our driver, Malcolm, was very friendly and professional. He made sure we were always in the right place at the right time. Although long, the van ride was comfortable. Water and snacks were provided and appreciated. Pick up and drop off were a breeze. No issues. The Waitomo Caves were really cool! The geysers at Rotorua were also impressive. We would not hesitate to book another excursion with Cheeky Kiwi Travel. Well worth it!Written 7 February 2025

- MargiPargy0 contributionsTop Notch TourExcellent trip, good communication prior to the trip, clear instructions on where to meet and what to bring by KiwiCheekyTravels. We had a great driver Dean, who provided just the right amount of interesting facts/figures throughout the tour, with a charming Kiwi wit too. The 2 separate tours were excellent, each tour had great guides and were well organised by the separate providers. Recommend this tour 👌Written 6 February 2025

The bus was clean and comfortable. It was clearly a very top notch operation. The Hobbiton Tour itself is an absolute must do. Did not read the books or watch the movies but definitely will now. Even though there was a little hiccup in the morning, Dean was efficient in solving the problem and got all of us back on track. Loved the amazing views at Hobbiton and Rotorua and it gave us a wonderful insight about the movie set and history of Māori culture. The van was spotlessly clean and comfortable with USB charging port which I find very convenient. We enjoyed the trip very much and would definitely choose Cheeky Kiwi again on our next trip to NZ! Good work Dean !Written 3 February 2025
- dianesW6693GD0 contributionsDon’t Miss This! This was the best field trip ever! Our guide Don was very knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. The tour of Hobbiton was better than we even expected it to be. The set looks exactly like it did in the films, with lots of attention to detail. We had beautiful weather too, so it was a perfect day to spend in the Shire. Highly recommend!Written 3 February 2025

This tour was just what I wanted. It met all my expectations! I was picked up right on time @5:55 and after picking up 10 others we were on our way. Our driver Mike provided commentary, stories and encouraged questions throughout the day. He helped us take excellent photos by telling us the best spot to take them. The Hobbiton tour was a highlight, but the Waiotapu Nature Reserve was breathtaking! The ham wrap I had at the Nature Reserve wasn’t very good and pricey at 13$. If you can bring your own sandwiches you should. Washroom stops were frequent. The drive went by quickly, well, I may have napped!😊
A big thanks to Mike for making this tour so successful! I certainly felt cared for and it is apparent that Mike enjoys his work!

The trip was exactly as described! Our tour operator and bus driver, Grant, was extremely informative, positive genuinely loves New Zealand. We even got a chance to visit a few additional mud baths given we were a smaller group. I will say, lunch was difficult to come by as they only provided us with a few snacks. We got to the site of the hot springs which had a cafe and there wasn’t much of a selection. I’d suggest to pack snacks.

Be aware that this is an endurance test but an interesting endurance test.
Your day starts at stupid o'clock with a very friendly and accommodating guide picking you up from your hotel. Ours was Honaz and he was very good.
First stop is Hobbiton and, cards on table, I'm not much of a fan of the franchise. I enjoyed reading The Hobbit but bailed out of Lord Of The Rings. As for the films' I've seen the first Lord of the Rings which I didn't like so, definitely didn't bother with the future films. Our guide at Hobbiton literally had two notes in her voice and screeched her way through a mundane script. I did try to listen but the desire to do a van Gogh to both my ears took over so, I had to walk away from her. The film set is interesting and the use of the area and why they chose it, was quite interesting but you may need a few more notes in the person's voice.
Rotorua was quite interesting but you don't really have time to get round before you need to get back on the minibus but, long enough for us.
All in all, a good day out with a very good guide who I would highly recommend.

The tours of Hobbiton and Wai-o-Tapu were wonderful. Our guide, Alessandro, was very informative about the landscape we drove through, frequently checked in with each person in our small group (14 people) to ask if we were enjoying ourselves. He was also very entertaining and made a couple of extra stops since we had time. He looked for me when I was waiting on the bus at a different part of the hotel instead of just leaving.
Note: if you are getting picked up from Grand Millennium, wait at the Vincent St entrance not the Mayoral Court. This tour does not stop at Rotorua, it only drives through the city.

The tour was great. The Cheeky Kiwi Travel team did a great job of sending a very knowledgeable guide and driver who made us feel like home and took care of us. It was a long ride about 12 hours of duty for the guide but he did with a smile on his face.

We are a family of three and are first time visitors to NZ. We are glad that we chose Hobbiton and Roturua Full Day Trip. It was an amazing experience. Highly recommended for both young and old.
Our day started at Hobbiton. It was really a majestic experience. Our guide Greg from Cheeky Kiwi ensured that we arrived safe in our destination despite the foggy and icy start of the morning.
Hobbiton was fantastic! It made us feel that we were experiencing a real not reel life adventure. The Hobbit holes were awesome! They even allowed us in one and interactively experience the magnificent interior. Oh wow, what a happy moment. We dont want to leave. Thank you for this moment.
Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland in Roturua on the other hand was an incredible experience with nature’s wonder. Such a big landscape to explore. What a great day to remember.
Again thank you for our host and driver Greg for the safe ride to these wonderful places. Thank you too for the incredible stories and acapella. Your guests really enjoyed them.

I booked the Hobbiton/Rotorua/Wai O Tapu tour. Pickup was right on time, and John (our driver and guide) was informative and drove safely. We arrived early at Hobbiton and were the 2nd tour of the day, which I think is a MUST if you want to get any decent pictures without people in the background. If you are a FAN, it's fantastic. If not, it's still beautiful and you will enjoy the movie magic of it all. Wai O Tapu was as impressive as it was beautiful. Seeing geology in action really gives you an appreciation for how livable our planet is. Roatura could be ditched altogether.
Overall, it's a LOT of driving/riding, but even with the heavy rain we had, watching the scenery pass was relaxing and breathtaking. I rarely do tours, but I would not have wanted to drive this on my own. If you are at all inclined to see HOBBITON while in Auckland, this is the way to go.

Michael, our CheekyWiki driver, was fabulous. Attentive and a safe driver. When we returned, he asked us about our dinner preferences. I said Korean and my wife said vegetarian Indian. He dropped us at a place, a short walk from our hotel, that had a Korean and Indian carry out place side by side!
The Hobbiton tour was wonderful. Fortunately, the weather was perfect. Our guide, Ellie, was total fun. The set was amazing…incredible attention to detail. Obviously, a lot of love and craftsmanship has gone into designing and sustaining it. It was mainly a two-hour walking tour in and around The Shire and was not physically challenging. Ellie took pictures of us there, which was above and beyond! I could have spent a day there!
We then drove to Rotorua and saw the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. An amazing walk through sulphuric vents and lakes. It was other-worldly.
Highly recommend this tour. The 15-person Mercedes van was comfortable. The ride was very long, but we knew what to expect and brought snacks and the like to make it endurable. Our tour group was wonderful: Austrian, Dutch, American, Chinese and Spanish. We had a lot of fun together

Had a great day with Alessandro as the guide. He is a very fun guy and made the day even more enjoyable.
With regards to the places visited, Hobbiton was great though sometimes felt they should probably make the tour sizes smaller and less frequent. Waiotapu was a 7/10 for me though I have not visited any of the other geothermal sites in Rotorua so cannot compare. All in all great day out.
