About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 105tamiec0 contributionsGreat tour!Fantastic tour. Kevin and Meiri were excellent guides. Kevin was a wealth of information sprinkled with lots of good humor. They set a great tone for the tour which encouraged a lot of friendly bantering amongst the participants. The places we visited were beautiful. We learned so much. Lunch was simple and delicious. We highly recommend this tour. It's the perfect way to visit the west coast of Auckland.Written 14 March 2025
- mcoe0560 contributionsReally wonderful day seeing Hobbiton and the Glow Worm Caves. We had a wonderful day. Wayne, our driver, was excellent and entertained us the entire day. Our was comfort stops in both directions, kept to the time schedule since our tours were scheduled and we even had an extra bonus of feeding an ostrich when we had a little extra time. The van was very comfortable with seats that were designed so everyone could see out the front window even if you were sitting in the back. I highly recommend this company as well as Wayne.Written 12 March 2025
- 13marlonj290 contributionsTraveling Solo, But Felt Like FamilyMy trip with Bush and Beach felt like a family trip. Damian, our tour guide was outstanding. He picked me up right on time (6:45a), which impressed me. He made me feel like family by telling me all about what I was going to expect. He did a great job of introducing me to my fellow tour mates from Canada. Damian went above and beyond to share with us all things New Zealand: history, restaurants, geography, agriculture, and me; his stories alone were worth the price of admission. Although I went by myself, I never felt alone. Thank you Damian, you are a rockstar.Written 10 March 2025
- Global339036582450 contributionsFantastic Hobbiton day tripThe trip was great from start to finish, everything was prompt and on time leaving from Auckland and getting back exactly on time. Damien was our driver and was a pleasure to have. He gave great insight and details about Hobbiton and New Zealand that really added to the whole trip. Definitely would come back and do it again. 10/10Written 9 March 2025
- G360SLryant0 contributionsMagical tour!Such a great experience! It's hard to put into words how magical the Hobbiton movie set is, and our fabulous tour guide Damien was so full of anecdotes and interesting history about New Zealand that the approximately 2 hour drive was a breeze. The glow worm cave is also absolutely worth seeing, it is almost certainly unlike anything you have ever seen before! Overall I would absolutely recommend this tour, especially if you get Damien as your guide!Written 9 March 2025
- FarAway8238550 contributionsGreat Outing! This was an excellent tour, highlighted by Damien, a terrific guide, and an expert on all things New Zealand. I saw the first LOTR fan and liked it but admit I'm not the devotee others are. Still, Hobbiton was sprctacular, one of the best parts of the whole NZ trip. The glow worm caves were interesting, worth going to as an add in to Hobbiton, but probably not a destination unto itself. Be advised this is a long day, you go from 7am to 7pm, but it is well designed with stops for coffee in the morning and ice cream in the afternoon. The buffet lunch and the beer at the Green Dragon wre a great touch. Damien told us from the outset that we were in for a fantastic day and he was absolutely right. He also was spot on about Whittacker's chocolate, and I'm glad I took his advice and came home with a couple of bars. It is a frequent reminder of such a nice trip, and an exceptionally nice day.Written 9 March 2025
- hlwalsh20210 contributionsGreat tour to doOur guide Michelle was AMAZING So knowledgable and interesting stories Great local knowledge and lovely anecdotes Excellent bus driver Will recommend to friends Thank youWritten 5 March 2025
- Barry S0 contributionsAsk for Damian. My wife and I know very little about Tolkien and the Hobbit yet we thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Hobbiton. The day was sunny and the temperature was pleasant. The photo opportunities were numerous. The Waitomo Glowworms were underwhelming but it was nice to see them on our way from Rotorua to Auckland. The highlight though was our guide and driver: DAMIAN. Damian is very knowledgeable, friendly, and outgoing. We learned so much from his narratives as he drove. Damian truly made us feel like family. He seems to really enjoy people and what he does. Thanks for a great day and being sure we arrived safely at our hotel in Auckland.Written 5 March 2025
- E4280KHjanec0 contributionsNot to be missedAbsolutely marvellous- what a day- excellent guide and driver Mairi and Murray. Both well knowledged and bou ced off each other like a marries couple( they aren't,t). W e had fabulous lunch- pick your own from local bakery- pies were excellent. Very good idea- removes risk of wasted food and cost if pre packed lunches done. Walks on Coastal paths not strenuous - views magnificent- struck lucky with weather. Lunch was on Piha beach with black volcanic sand. Ended day with hour long walk in rain forest with refreshments ( coffee and anzac biscuits)-oh and a taste of Manuka honey- very rich and creamy. An excellent day- gave us a different picture of NZ away from the big city of Auckland.Written 3 March 2025
- jaguar39570 contributionsGreat trip to Hobbiton with Bush & BeachWhat a great day we had. Damien was our guide for the day and was excellent. His knowledge and info about New Zealand along our route was great. We learned so much. The tour round Hobbiton was very well organised and although so many people visit daily, it didn’t seem too rushed. The hobbit houses you can go in are brilliant and then a refreshing flagon of Hobbit ale or cider at the Green Dragon. Food was great and plenty of it. Return back with a stop at Mad Mikes rounded off a great day. Many thanks Damien for a most memorable trip.Written 3 March 2025

- Elizabeth S0 contributionsFar beyond my expectations!Far exceeded our expectation. Value for money and more. Damien our guide fulfilled his promise that we would remember this experience forever. He was right. Nothing in our travels ever equalled this. A drink at the Green Dragon followed by an amazing buffet lunch. Never a boring moment in the entire day. Hobbiton a dream fulfilled and the caves unbelievable. I would definitely do this again.Written 2 March 2025

Thank you, Milton and Michelle, for a wonderful day exploring the stunning Piha Beach and the surrounding rainforest! I truly appreciated your warmth and friendliness. It was a privilege to learn about the area from someone who grew up here, and your insights made the experience even more special. This was a true highlight of our first trip to Auckland, and I highly recommend it as a day trip for anyone visiting the city, especially if you don’t have access to a car.

This was a lovely small group tour, perfect for me as a solo traveller. A smooth pick-up from a central Auckland location was a great start, and our guide provided a knowledgeable commentary throughout the minibus journey as well as at each stop. We had a delightful walk through a short section of the rainforest and the Arataki Visitor Centre is beautifully laid out and well worth a visit... but the best was yet to come. Piha beach was simply beautiful! Our guide demonstrated the magic of iron sand with his magnet! but walking beside the turquoise sea, white surf and black sand was even more magical... followed by fruit juice and home-made cookies in the shade of little trees, listening to more local stories, before the journey back to the city. What a perfect day!

A wonderful experience about an hour out from Auckland CBD. Our tour guides, Erin and Luke, took us on this adventure. We stopped first at the Waikatere Ranges Regional Park where we had a beautiful view of both the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea. We the n took a short hike through the park and learned about native plants and saw lots of bird life. From there, we ventured on to Piha beach, which must be seen to be believed. The rock outcroppings and ocean are stunning, and the sand is really and truly black. When you scoop it on your hands, you will see the iron that gives it the black hue. Erin and Luke were so thoughtful and knowledgeable about the area, being local to these locations. Their knowledge and excitement in sharing information about the wildlife was contagious. We had a great tour!

Our group of 14 had “the Peters” as our guides. Both are pleasant men with great knowledge about Aukland and New Zealand in general.
We were picked up in front of our hotel a few minutes before the given time. The bus was very clean and the driver was extremely safe!!! Our guide advised each person to buckle up, explained how many more stops and gave the entire group a summary of the day, how long for each leg and where the bathrooms would be. Necessary info and loved his clarity.
After making about 5 stops to pick everyone up we took off to Arataki park and visitor center. We had a brief history lesson, reviewed the Pou statue in front of the center and had a guided easy walk learning about all the plants along the way. We left here and headed for the (black) Piha beach. Although it was only about 77 degrees Fahrenheit today the sand was hot. My friend with Teva sandals on said it was too hot for her feet. I had tennis shoes on and was fine. I took them off and walked along the water once I crossed the hot sand. At the given time we were offered juice, tea, coffee, water and cookies by the Peters before heading back. This was my first tour after a 13 hour flight and landing about 5 hours earlier. I would recommend this as a beautiful and gentle way to start your trip.

The tour was amazing. First the admin people were great in sorting out some difficulties with my booking.
The guides for the tour were very relaxed and friendly but still kept us on time and were very knowledgeable.
Each part of the tour was special in its own the way. Clanwallis Beach with its black sand was tranquil and you could see locals enjoying it as well. The Huia lookout over the natural harbour was breathtaking. Walking the little bit of the Karamatura loop was going like into an ancient world with the ferns, Kauri and other plants in the rainforest. The pies from the bakery on the way as well as the refreshments and Manuka honey on the way back was also good.
I would recommend this tour for someone traveling solo as you connect with other people but you can still make it your own experience. It is also worthwhile if you are not spending a long time in Auckland.

Very informative tour:
A very enjoyable afternoon tour – learning how close the west coast and rainforests are to Auckland city. Very knowledgeable guide, with plenty of informative commentary, many photographic stops and very welcome cuppa and Anzac Biscuits at Piha Beach. Quite an interesting stop at Piha Beach – we had been warned not to turn our backs on the sea due to rogue waves (I think he was serious) – investigated the iron particles in the black sand using a magnet. So different to our white beaches in Australia.

Arriving just after the cyclone hit, I found all the roads in Waitakere blocked, collapsed, prohibited, I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do about it.
Aukland city disappointed me, work on the future metro and no charm, very good maritime museum, the port is incredible but find out if you want to go to the island of Rangitoto, there is only one boat per day quite early in the morning. So not to be missed. Next time I won't stay there for 3 days...

We had a wonderful trip with this company skilfully guided by Milton who despite the weather went out of his way to ensure we had a most enjoyable trip. It was Miltons first solo guiding tour, we later discovered but you’d never know that from the experience. Informative and humorous. Good luck with the wedding.

Hats off to our tour guide Kevin and our driver! We left the cbd of Auckland expecting rain and headed out to the rain forest. As we stopped at the visitors center, Kevin gave us a lot of information about the area. The rain came faster as we toured Piha beach. After heading to a higher point, the decision was made to take everyone back for safety reasons. BRAVO to our guide and driver as Auckland saw record breaking rainfall and flooding. Our many thanks to them for keeping us safe. We highly recommend this tour for anyone sightseeing in Auckland.

At last minute decided to make this trip. Was on the phone late the night before and was successful in making the booking. I found it on line and didn’t realize that price quoted was in Euros, not NZ dollars. It was therefore more expensive than I first thought, but well worth the money. Our tour guide a Richard, and our driver Dave , were both extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful during the tour. We visited beautiful Piha beach with plenty of time to take pictures and walk along the beach. Dave found an interesting shell for us to see and Richard gave us a demonstration of the magnetic sand on the beach. Fascinating! We went to the park visitors center and took a walk through the rain Forrest with Richard pointing out indigenous birds. We stopped to buy food for lunch and had a snack provided at the beach. I am so glad we made this tour. An excellent way to see outside the city in a manageable tour size. Richard was always sure that everyone could hear his commentary. Excellent!!!

What hotels in the CBD do you pick up at? Also, what is approximate pick up time?
Written 21 January 2019
They pick up from the majority of hotels, then take you to a collection point for your particular tour. Mind was a half day afternoon tour, I was picked up about midday.
They drop you off back at your hotel.

Is this tour as strenuous as it sounds? We are in good health but my husband is 80 and I'm two years younger. Would 5 hours walking be too much for us, especially if it's hot?
Written 14 July 2018
Thanks so much for your response. We often take river cruises and take the slower option, not because we're slow walkers, but because we like to stop and take pictures and we've found we have more opportunities to do that without slowing down the group when we move at a slower pace. This tour just moved up several notches in our must do program for January 2019.
