Wonderful trip down in the bus with fantastic commentary provided by Damian. The marquee lunch was lovely and Hobbiton was beautiful to visit. The ride back again with Damian informative and educational. This is a first class company and well worth the money spent for their tours.Written 5 January 2025

- On_The_Road_Canuck0 contributionsAmazing TourBush & Beach ran a well organized and convienent tour. Our driver (Michelle) was super friendly and very knowledgeable. But Hobbiton itself was amazing. We’ll done and no tacky or cheesy. 100% would recommend to anyone who enjoyed the movies. But would also say there is no better tour operator from Auckland than Bush & Beach.Written 4 January 2025
- Tom A0 contributionsA fun & relaxed tour with knowledgeable guidesThe whole tour was incredibly relaxed and well structured. Our guides were very knowledgeable about the native NZ flora & fauna and answered well the many dozens of questions thrown their way. The beach was great and the tea & cookies wrapped up a great trip very well. As someone who was in Auckland only for a few days, I considered this trip to be a very good and productive use of time.Written 4 January 2025

It’s really hard to keep a group engaged and entertained for such a long trip but his enthusiasm kept the day alive! He is incredibly thoughtful and we enjoyed his company. Thank you Wayne for a lovely day!Written 31 December 2024
- Wendybel0 contributionsExceptional day out!We had an incredible experience with this tour! Our driver, Damian, picked us up from our hotel at 6:45 am and we set off on a scenic journey to the Hobbiton movie set, joined by 11 other guests. Throughout the trip, Damian shared fascinating insights about New Zealand's history, the regions we passed through, and the stories behind both the Hobbiton set and the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. His knowledge was exceptional, and his sense of humor made the day even more enjoyable. Hobbiton itself was breathtaking, with every detail meticulously crafted—it truly felt like stepping into Middle-earth. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves were equally mesmerizing, offering a surreal and beautiful experience. If you’re visiting Auckland, don’t miss the chance to take a tour with this company—it was hands down the best experience we’ve had!Written 29 December 2024

Perfect amount and pacing of information, he is very knowledgeable about the city, people, economy and sights. Good fun and happy to answer any questions along the way. I booked last minute literally day/morning of; spoke to Alex on the phone who was awesome , and he told me approximately what time my driver and tour guide, Damian, would pick me up. Overall excellent service from both workers. Tour was scenic and very good. I just wish we had a little more time to do our own thing at the Karekare waterfall and Piha beach. I also thought $255 dollars was a little steep for the value and time we are limited to for each destination we see. Regardless, I didn’t mind paying for that because I booked last minute and had a good time. 4/5 stars mainly because of limited time on tour and price being a little high compared to other tours.

We had a great time joining our guide Erin on a tour of the Waitakere Ranges as well as the beach. Erin was an amazing tour guide- very knowledgeable, funny and easy going. She made sure that we always had enough water and sunscreen and kept us well informed about NZ history, nature and the important steps to protect the ecosystems. The tour itself led us from Auckland to the Waitakere Ranges, Kerikeri Beach and Piha Beach and is a Great mixture between seeing the local forests and wildlife as well as spending time on the Beach. We had lunch at the lovely Piha store with fresh coffee and organic food. Great tour to get away from the city live and learn more about the local wildlife, forests and beautiful black sand beaches!

Toured with Bush and Beach. We are from the USA and are avid travelers, many countries, many tours, many tour guides! I mention this because . . . We were thrilled and impressed with our tour and especially our guide, Damien. His attention to his group, his driving skills, his knowledge of New Zealand and willingness to share were beyond expectations.
Would highly recommend this tour and company ‼️

Our tour ended up being modified due to the lasting effects of the recent Cyclone, however it was quite an amazing tour! Walking through the rainforest of the Waitakere among the kauri, silver ferns and nikau was so serene and peaceful. The walk was made for a mid-level fitness so be prepared to breathe a bit harder.
We had delicious afternoon tea/coffee after our walk before heading to Whatipu coastal black sand beach. The beach is not one to swim at as the currents look fairly strong. This one is more for reflection and appreciation for the experience. New Zealand is unparalleled in beauty, and walking along the shores of Whatipu beach is very humbling.
We finished the tour with a moderate uphill walk up mt Donald McLean and it was so worth it! Although the skies were overcast it was still beautiful and the fact that you couldn’t hear anything but nature was the cherry on top.
Thank you to Burkhard and Bush&Beach for creating a memorable experience. Our guide was good fun and took care of us the whole way through!
We highly recommend this tour to get away from the city and catch a small glimpse of what else New Zealand has to offer.

My wife and I along with another couple recently visited Auckland, New Zealand on a cruise vacation to the South Pacific. While there, we took this excursion. The bus was very comfortable and our group was quite small, which made the experience very enjoyable. Our guide was personable and very knowledgeable. We visited a rain forest and several scenic overlook areas with amazing views of the forest and lake scenery. We also visited a black sand beach. This excursion was very enjoyable.

This tour was truly amazing. It takes you out of urban Auckland out to Piha Beach, through a rainforest, and up to a beautiful waterfall. All of these sites are truly spectacular. You get views of Piha beach from various heights and angles before driving down to it and actually walking on it.
We had only seven people so the experience was intimate and our driver was prompt, well equipped and well organized. He was also quite knowledgeable having lived in the area most of his life.
I would highly recommend this tour to anybody visiting Auckland. It gives you wonderful insight into what the North Island outside of Auckland really is like. Not to be missed!

This was a great way to spend a beautiful sunny and pleasant day in the surrounding nature of Auckland. The day tour takes you to the west coast of the North Island along the shores of the Tasman Sea.
You get to see some spectacular views of the coast line while walking/hiking through the beautiful forests, parks and beaches near Auckland. There were several convenient pickup and drop off spots near Auckland CBD area (downtown Auckland, where most hotels and Airbnbs are).
I was with a small group of 4 solo travelers to New Zealand, so it made it a great personable experience as well. Meredith, who was my group's tour guide was a great personality and was quite engaging and informative along the way. This made the experience wholesome. She was also quite accommodating to needs of every individual in the group. A fun picnic style lunch (traditional NZ pies) with views of the Tasman Sea was a tranquil experience.
Overall I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to do a day trip to explore the nature around Auckland and even as a warm-up to all the exploring you may be planning while visiting New Zealand.

Our day was packed with memorable experiences from the moment our guide, Wayne, picked us up at 9:00 a.m. until our return at 5:00 p.m. We toured the downtown area of Auckland and the surrounding suburbs before stopping for coffee and pastries at a quaint café along the beach. Along the way, Wayne regaled us with humorous stories and historical facts as he drove us to the top of a volcano for an incredible panoramic view of Auckland and the surrounding bay. We then visited the largest marina in the Southern Hemisphere before a stop for lunch as our wilderness experience began. The eco-tour began at the Arataki Centre which served as an introduction to the rain forest and it’s amazingly diverse plant and animal life. It was truly awe-inspiring! From there our tour ended as we strolled the black sand beach of the west coast. I can’t recommend this tour enough to anyone in search of a best of both worlds adventure.

This was our second tour with Bush and Beach. A lovely trip through the rainforest, then to the west coast and the spectacular black sand beach then finishing off with a picnic on top of the hill enjoying stunning panoramic views of Auckland and the north island.
Our guide Chris did an excellent job throughout the entire tour. You can tell he was right at home inside the rainforest with his in depth knowledge of all the plants, trees, and the history of the area and its people. The hike was very peaceful and rejuvenating (no mosquitos or creepy crawlers). There were steps to deal with on the way back yet nothing serious...we did so many stops checking out different plants, listening and watching the birds (the Tui stole the show!) that you barely felt you were climbing.
Afterwards we ate the tour provided lunch at the Arataki visitors center (picked at the start of our journey from a local bakery, choice of meat pies, sandwiches, wraps and pastry, all yummy and freshly made)
My favorite part was the stop at the beach, walking on the magnetic (literally!) black sand, feeling the water and taking in the breathtaking ocean views.
The picnic on the way back was so delightfully unexpected, a culmination of a lovely journey "in the bush". We enjoyed the famous Manuka honey, tea and cookies on the back patio of a famous Auckland benefactor.
Highly recommend this tour and our guide, Chris!

The 7 hour tour was canceled because of torrential rains the night before, but Bush and Beach got us on a half day tour of the rainforest and black sand beach. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the rainforest. And, our guide was great.

Where on this itinerary do we see ancient Kauri trees - this is important to me - should I try a different tour? Also, how many hours is the full tour, what time does it start and end, and how do I get to the pick up point from an airport hotel?
Thanks
