Overview
Kapiti Island is one of New Zealand’s best-kept nature sanctuaries and a predator-free haven for native birds. On this day trip to the island, take a ferry from Paraparaumu Beach and spend your day walking the island, identifying kākā, kōkako, kererū and more with the help of your nature guide. Enjoy a chef-prepared lunch on the island before you head back to the mainland.
What to Expect
- Your ferry departs daily from Paraparaumu Beach, roughly 1-hour drive north of Wellington City.
- Our experienced nature guides will walk with you and explain the rich human and ecological history, and help you identify the flora and fauna around you.
- Sit down with the family and enjoy a delicious cooked lunch at the Lodge, surrounded by one of the most rich and diverse nature reserves in New Zealand.
- You can expect to see some of our most beautiful and endangered birds up close and personal as you share the space with the locals.
- This is New Zealand sightseeing and natural experience at its best.

Awesome day trip, fantastic staff

Fantastic day tour. The staff were amazing and very helpful and informative. The lunch option was delicious once you got back to house, if you can handle the Kaka attacks. They are harmless. If I’m being honest, the tour was a bit expensive.More

Lots of birds, and lucky with the weather

Friendly staff, and lots of birds on the island. The weather was great, too, but that was just luck... In case of bad weather, it is good to be flexible with dates.More
