Great Ocean Road Bespoke Adventure: Educational, beautiful, active, fun and unforgettable!
Matt at GOR Private Luxury Tours is one of the best guides we have had with an impeccable, bespoke itinerary. The trip was very well structured with a variety of wildlife, coastal and inland nature, and cultural encounters. Matt knows his wildlife, how to find them and how to educate his guests, he knows the history of the area, and where all the fun stuff is, including cool pubs and off the beaten track sights! Super flexible changing a few things on the fly once he learned our personality. From beach walks to pinnacle hikes to boats, helicopter and road trips, he’s got the combo nailed. Matt is fun and engaging and a true pro. If you want to dig deep along the great ocean road, GOR Private Luxury Tours is the way to go. Top Notch!

Great Ocean Road and much more!
My family and I had an incredible 2 day experience on the Great Ocean Road and in the Otway National Park. We had so many new animal encounters, and epic scenic views. It was very private, comfortable and most importantly accommodating to our kids we were traveling with. Great company, highly recommend.

A Valued Memory with Great Ocean Road Private Luxury Tours
Not to be redundant with the other reviews, but my wife and I, and the other couple that we traveled with, had an amazing day with Matt touring the Great Ocean Road and other stops. We were on a Viking cruise and got locked out of all of the excursions. I found Matt's company on the internet and he offered a custom day based upon our limited time in the port. Viking did not even offer the Great Ocean Road. Prior to the trip, Matt was extremely patient and very responsive to all of my emails - -detailing what we wanted in an excursion. He also adapted his usual itinerary to meet a frequently changing Viking port schedule. Matt lives along the Great Ocean Road and knew how to fit that excursion into our limited time table. He not only knew the Ocean Road, but also took us to see kangaroos in the wild, wild cockatiels that sit on your arms and neck, great tasting coffee, and find koala bears in a national park. He fit as much as he could while getting us back in time to meet Vikings' departure time. Matt's knowledge of Australia was vast both in history and culture. He has a wonderful sense of humor. He answered our numerous questions with a smile on his face. Matt was so good that we made certain to include him in a group photo. He made his way onto our digital photo frame as part of the family. The cost of the excursion was well worth it. We highly...highly...recommend Matt and his company to you. It will make your trip to Melbourne a valued memory.

Breathtaking, impressive and totally picturesque. Must do! See... the Great Ocean Road!
Wow! Our day started early at 7am with Matt Jones from Great Ocean Road Private Luxury Tours greeting us at our motel. A welcoming and friendly guy who opened the doors and shared his luxury Mercedes Benz with us, equipped with fruit, snacks and ice chilled water for our road trip from Melbourne to the Great Ocean Road, return. Immediately we felt comfortable with Matt. The drive out of Melbourne was easy and Matt shared his knowledge of the area, chatting about his work experiences over the years and family life with us. There is an air of confidence and always a smile on Matt’s face, as his passion and love for the Great Ocean Road oozes with willingness to share his enthusiasm with his clients. It was about a 90 minute drive from Melbourne to our first stop, Torquay driving past Australia’s iconic surf brand shops. Matt took us to a funky café for a caffeine fix and short walk across the road to the first of many spectacular lookouts. By luck, the 4 December 2023 was an absolutely stunning day to see the coastline. Matt happily took family photos for us all day to capture the memories! We admired paddle boarders on the ocean, it was flat, calm and crystal clear. We ventured through Jan Juc onto Australia’s home of surfing ‘Bells Beach’. We gazed from the boardwalk lined with low growing vibrant shrubs to the ocean and rust coloured cliffs. In the distance you could see the windy road that would take us to our next destination. Matt made the drive look easy. Our family were all able to admire the view and no-one missed out. Thankfully, the kids were on their best behaviour, which made the daytrip comfortable and relaxed for everyone. Matt personally catered our tour to explore places of interest for us. We stopped at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie. Our kids were in heaven with chocolate tasting (also, buying gifts) and the opportunity to watch the chocolates being made. The business was surrounded by beautiful colourful gardens. During conversation Matt shared with us that the Netflix series ‘Surviving Summer’ was filmed in his hometown of Anglesea. Best of all, we could see the house! Pretty special for our youngest who got a photo out the front of the house. We also looked for kangaroos in the township. Short stop at Lorne and then inland to visit Esrkine Falls, Otway National Park. There was plenty of water and it was ever so green. Back to the coastline for more photo opportunities at lookouts and be in total awe of the spectacular coastline as we approached Kennett River and did some koala spotting. We found 13 koalas in the wild!!! We lunched at Apollo Bay. It was at this point, we realised, we really needed to come back to this area and spend more time holidaying and exploring the region. There is so much to see. We dined at the Apollo Bay Hotel overlooking the parkland and foreshore. The hotel offered wonderful quick service and we were energized for the afternoon of travelling. More sightings of koalas and the landscape became denser with rainforest and the road quite windy. We stopped at Port Campbell for a photo opportunity and ice cream, before embarking on the National Park to be blown away by the dramatic cliffs and azure blue ocean of the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, Mutton Bird Island and London Bridge. The place was swarming with visitors from all around the world and flies too! The views are truly breathtaking and you can appreciate the popularity of this beautiful natural wonder and understand why it’s on everyone’s bucket list. Matt took us to some of the less crowded places. We were exhausted and ready to head home. Matt definitely went above and beyond to ensure we had the best full day of sightseeing the Great Ocean Road and left us wanting to revisit the region. We drove inland back to Melbourne, past farming land and windmill farms. I loved that, at times on the road, silence was comfortable. Other times, Matt would give us the history of places, towns and infrastructure and share general life stories. We arrived home late, which was fine by us as we had nowhere else to be. Yet, I felt guilty that Matt still had a long drive home to his family after his day at work. But, testament to Matt’s dedication and passion, he was thankful that all of us had the most perfect day. We said our goodbyes with hugs and a promise that we might be back for another tour one day! The day was filled with fun for our family! A day that we will remain a vivid highlight in our lives. Thank you, Matt, for sharing the time with us. We would thoroughly recommend Matt and Great Ocean Road Private Luxury Tours to friends, family and overseas visitors.

An A+ day on the Great Ocean Road with Matt
Matt is absolutely excellent on all fronts. Our family which ranged in age from 5-80 had a wonderful day with him. His communication was perfect from enquiry, to booking, to leaving us off at our final stop. If you have an interest in seeing the Great Ocean Road or any other offering Matt provides just book it. We specifically did the Great Ocean Road with an emphasis on wild life. We saw both koalas and kangaroos in their native habitat and loved it. Matt has a keen eye for spotting interesting things and a wonderful local knowledge that you only receive from someone who has lived in the area for many, many years. Thanks again for a wonderful time, and we hope to see you again some day.

          Superb in every way!
We had the absolute best time with Matt! He is knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating and, all around, one of our best guides ever -- and we've had dozens. We tromped through roadside woods to see koalas in the wild, took an impromptu drive to a clifftop for a closer look at hang gliders, spent 45 minutes walking among the hundreds of kangaroos on a golf course, and visited a charming dairy for a cheese tasting. All this in addition to, of course, the gorgeous Great Ocean Road. Matt let us set the pace - how long to chat and take photos at each lookout. It proved to be a long day, but Matt's tour was the highlight of our 37-day trip.

Great Ocean Road and 12 Apostles Private Tour, Memory of a Lifetime!
Tom and I had a 5-star-Plus experience on our 12 Apostles and Great Ocean Road Private Tour with Matt. Matt was able to pick us up at our Cruise Port in Geelong instead of Melbourne for our full day of adventure along the magnificent Great Ocean Road. The car was ultra comfortable for our long day of travel, and the sights Matt took us to were spectacular and breathtaking... exactly what we were looking for! Matt makes his home right along the Great Ocean Road, so his knowledge of the area is spot-on, and he was able to add that personal touch to every place we saw. His kindness and friendliness towards us were greatly appreciated, and this tour was the favorite of our entire stay in Australia and New Zealand!!

          Great experience with Matt!
We had an amazing day with Matt touring the Great Ocean Road. He is a wonderful guide - very knowledgeable and a delight to spend the day with. The weather didn't cooperate due to fog over the Twelve Apostles but Matt improvised to make the most of our day. He communicated well up front and was on time. Highly recommend!

          Exceptional, personalized tour!
An absolutely memorable, incredible day on the Great Ocean Road! My husband and I traveled from the US, and Matt tailored the tour based on our interests. Prior to the tour, he was highly communicative and extremely helpful guiding us with recommendations. Matt is local to the area and is deeply experienced, so he has a vast knowledge and appreciation which conveys throughout the day. This made the journey more impactful. We also appreciated he supported local businesses, and we had the opportunity to meet and talk to these friendly folks. Matt also went out of his way to find wildlife, which was the highlight of the day! What a trip! Thank you, Matt! When you come back to Arizona, look us up!

          Phenomenal experience! Great Tour guide!
My wife and I wanted to tour the Great Ocean Road while we were in Melbourne but didn’t feel we had time to make the full journey all the way to the Twelve Apostles. Searching online, we came across a website for Great Ocean Road Private Luxury Tours and found that they offered a half day tour, which was perfect for us. Doing this turned out to be a great decision! Matt, one of the company’s owners, as well as our guide, was wonderful. Within minutes, he felt like an old friend, and we enjoyed having him guide us along the road. We stopped at several great spots to see the spectacular views of the ocean, plus Matt went out of his way to make some special stops where my wife could get some chocolates with bush food flavors as well as some spots where I could see some great birds. (He had already asked us in an e-mail when we were setting up the tour about specific interests we had). He also made an extra effort to help us find koalas and got us up very close to some Gray Kangaroos along the way. I can’t say enough about how much he went out of his way to give us a fantastic tour. This trip was the first where we booked private tours, and now we can’t see ourselves doing group tours again after this phenomenal experience. If we ever find ourselves in Australia again, we will definitely look Matt up and hire him for another tour. This was one of the best tours we’ve taken, partly because of the scenery but also because of Matt’s friendly and welcoming personality. Australia is a wonderful country, and the Great Ocean Road is a great way to experience some of the small towns and natural wonders of this area. Having a local’s perspective made the experience all the more wonderful and gave greater insight than we’d have ever gotten by doing it ourselves or going on a large group tour.

Relish the journey, not just the destination
This is a near-faultless travel experience. Tour company owner and guide Matt Jones went above and beyond with his patient good humour, friendliness and willingness to customise our itinerary for our specific interests. His long-standing and diverse ecotourism background shows in his extensive first-hand knowledge of local beauty spots, artisan producers and out-of-the-way attractions. Many of the local restaurant and cafe owners in the towns we visited along the Great Ocean Road greeted him by name and he's conscious of the need to support the local economies throughout the region. He also managed to wangle us a one-bedroom apartment in Lorne at late notice in high season when the entire Great Ocean region was booked out. The end-point of our 2-day Great Ocean Road experience was the Twelve Apostles. They're undeniably spectacular, even in the rain, but surprisingly it was all the natural wonders, wildlife encounters, laid-back cafes, boutique distilleries, gourmet ice-creameries, berry-picking , cheese-tasting and bushwalks along the way that I enjoyed just as much. With free wifi in the luxury vehicle to pacify our primary-schooler and a Dropbox file of photos after the trip, this is gold-class service from first contact to warm goodbyes. An exceptional travel experience, even for a Victorian local.

Awesome Experience! Our day tour of the Great Ocean Road with Matt was special and memorable.
Matt was a wonderful host and very knowlegable tour guide who lives along the Great Ocean Road. We were picked up and dropped off at Station Pier in Melborne where our cruise ship was docked which was very convenient. The tour included seeing mobs of kangaroos and Koalas in the wild off the beaten path away from crowds. Numerous stops at the best scenic locations along the Great Ocean Road and stops for tea and pastry in the morning and lunch at Apollo Bay on the ocean. Specific destinations along the route included: seaside villages of Torquay, Anglesea, Lorne, Apollo Bay and Port Campbell, 12 Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, Great Otway National Park rainforest, beautiful beaches and farmlands. This tour includes many great experiences to capture with your camera in one day. I highly recommend this tour.

What a treat it was to explore some wineries, with friends while being driven around in style and comfort. Matt was a fabulous host and I can not recommend this service enough. Truly a day to remember, thanks again.
