- aussieandakiwi70 contributionsSimply The Best!Having already done 2 fabulous tours with John, we booked our third on his recommendation to explore the Langhorne Creek region. And this certainly did not disappoint! The wineries were stunning, the staff were amazing and the prices were a surprising delight! As always, John’s hospitality, knowledge and overall service was second to none. We are looking forward to visiting Adelaide again and will only ever book our next tour with John. It will be a very sad day when he retires that’s for sure! Thank you again John, you made my birthday celebration so wonderful and enjoyable.Written 19 March 2025
- detective10 contributionsA Great tour of the Adelaide Hills area and the wines available for tasting.John Angel of Best Wine Tours is a walking encyclopaedia of the area. He put together a 4.5 hour tour which including Shaw & Smith of Adelaide Hills and their exquisite Pinot Gris and Chardonnays, followed by the Shiraz of Penfolds. We ate at a German restaurant facility and thoroughly enjoyed our time with Mr Angel and his luxury BMW. and had great fun. Thanks to John and Best Wine Tours.Written 28 February 2025
- michaeldL2064HW0 contributionsJohn definitely delivered the Best Wine Tour of the Adelaide Hills for our Anniversary!!Review of Private Adelaide Hills Wine Region Tour Pending review We booked this tour about two days prior to arriving in Adelaide for our 5th Wedding Anniversary. I found Best Wine Tours just on a google search at the last minute, after a few weeks of research into the wine regions surrounding Adelaide and the companies that provide tours. Initially, we were looking at the hop-on hop-off tours, but in the end they just didn't feel like the right option for celebrating the occasion. John was quick to respond to my query and we had an itinerary and bookings set by the time we arrived. He was very clear in communications about what to expect and how the tours should run on the day for the best experience. We chose an itinerary that was a combination of John's suggestions and our selections based on research of vineyards/cellar doors that suited our particular tastes in wines. John was amenable to our input, but I think you couldn't go wrong with a fully planned tour either. He took care of all the included bookings as promised and on the day made sure we we stayed on time as best as possible. Usually, wine tasting for us is done while on family road trips with kids in tow and at places that often don't require bookings ahead of time. In the end, we only missed one of our tastings, but that's more because we got lost in the moment of being able to enjoy the wines without one of us having to be the designated driver!! We WERE a tincy bit tanked by lunch time... We chose to start out tour a bit earlier than the usual at 9AM to get up to the hills as close to opening time for our first tasting as possible. We stopped at the Beerenberg Factory as a bit of a filler...but I must confess I am a bit of a "Beerenberger" at heart. Didn't have time for a factory tour though. A quick run down of our wine tastings/recommends; 1. The Lane Vineyard - Estate Sparkling Blanc De Blanc, Rose, & Gamay Worth the wine club membership just for regular deliveries of these 2. Artwine - All good wines, we had our favorites but can't go wrong if purchasing any of them. Joined the wine club here too...well worth it!! Nibbles platter with tasting was a nice touch and our server was knowledgeable and engaging. 3. Mt Lofty Ranges for Tasting/Lunch Combo - Same as Artwine for quality of the wines. Garry looked after us for the tasting...it was sublime experience and he went above and beyond to make sure we understood the depth of work that goes into the wines, both from the viticulture perspective and the wine making process. The set menu lunch was tasty too. We purchased a selection of our favorites but unfortunately didn't join the wine club here. 4. Ten Miles East - A little out of the way and hard to find, we discovered. We almost didn't get there due to my failure as a navigator...but I think John discovered a place he hadn't been before. A boutique winery, small selection of wines produced from alternative grape varieties. Red varieties were a little too heavy for us, but the whites were exceptional. The Arneis was the stand out for us. There was also a few locals hanging out in the sunshine enjoying a drop or two. Overall, it was a great tour and well worth the price we paid. John was friendly and displayed excellent knowledge on the local wine industry and it's history, as well as on the areas we visited. I would definitely book another tour of any of the SA wine regions with him in the future and would also recommend friends and family to do the same if they were planning a trip down that way. Thank You for a wonderful experience John!! Michael & ZaraWritten 24 December 2024

His knowledge on the local region is second to none and will tailor the trip that bet suits you. Also the car was a perfect way to get around the area for a small group. John curated an excellent itinerary and took us to some beautiful wineries. His knowledge and passion for the wine region was impressive. We actually only booked for 1 day, however had such a lovely time we booked another visit for the very next day! Overall, the process and communication was clear and smooth. - Safari6161850 contributionsFantastic days on winery toursHad the extreme pleasure of two day trips with John & Mary around both Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale wineries. From the outset organizing the itinerary was easy with the aide of John's expertise and suggestions. As two couples we found the personalized service excellent. The vehicles used ( RAV4 on Friday and BMW on Monday) were spotless, roomy and very comfortable for 4 . On pickup in Adelaide we were greeted with a smiling friendly face. On the way to winery area given history of area and spots of interest pointed out on way The wineries chosen and the lunch stops were great with both beautiful wines and food. After long day dropped back to Adelaide. All in all found Best Wine Tours to be great value for money, friendly and knowledgeable. Would not hesitate to recommend. - sheehandayasena0 contributionsA great day out with John the wonderful HostWe visited Adelaide at the weekend and were looking to do the wineries down at Barossa Valley. We did not want to drive, and so we searched for a private tour to take us around. I came across 'Best Wine Tours' on a Google search and what a great choice I made. We wanted to visit particular wineries that my friends had chosen and BWT take away the hassle and book them all in for you and plan out the times for the day which was great. We spoke to John, and he planned the day out for us, so we were not rushing around. John was pleasant and great to deal with. He just made the trip so easy. We were picked up in the CBD in a comfortable BMW which added to the smooth service and journey. John was a gentleman during the day and even provided us with some information about Adelaide as we had not visited before. I would certainly recommend 'Best Wine Tours' to any small group of 4 or less. One of the best tours that I have booked in Australia. Thank you, Best Wine Tour, for making our weekend memorable.Written 21 May 2023

With limited time available, we were looking for a shorter wine tour of the Barossa Valley and a pick-up from our Adelaide Hills hotel. Most standard bus and group tours could not fulfil these requirements. So we were thrilled to have found Best Wine Tours, who were able to deliver exactly what we needed at a decent price. Our guide, John, helped us draw up an itinerary that fitted our timeframe and our interests and was flexible enough to change when time became short. As a result, we had a fantastic day out, visiting 4 wonderful wineries with an excellent lunch stop at Char Barossa. John's vast knowledge helped us appreciate the history of the places we visited. He was also very friendly and fun to be with. We highly recommend Best Wine Tours to anyone looking for a tailored tour that delivers a lot more than the standard offering.

My partner and I had planned to visit Adelaide in November for a few nights. I had been looking for a wine tour company that would be able to accommodate us and the wineries that we wanted to visit and came across Best Wine Tours. I had decided to book 2 days with John. One day to visit the Barossa and the other day to visit McLaren Vale.
It was the best 2 days of our trip, not only did we get great weather, we had our own private and very knowledgeable tour guide (John) with his brand new car! John was able to recommend some of his preferred wineries while also making sure we were able to visit our chosen wineries. He also ensured to ask us about lunch preferences and made sure to let us know how long we should allocate at each venue based off our requested time booked.
I can highly recommend John and his services, I can ensure that if I come back to Adelaide to visit, I will definitely be in touch to organise another tour and visit the many wineries we did not have time to visit in our short time there!
Thank you John! We look forward to coming and visiting again soon!

We highly recommend this service. John, our driver, was on time and very friendly. His vehicle is a BMW and is immaculately clean. He even opens the door for the ladies!
His knowledge of Adelaide is great and he is happy to point out landmarks and provide history along the way.
His suggestions of cellar doors is provided by a background in the wine industry and is very good. We asked to make a detour on the way back and this wasn't a problem.
John is very professional and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. We would definitely re book next time we are in Adelaide.

Is there additional cost for more than the 5 hour minimum?
Written 23 August 2019
Yes you can decide on the day if you wish to extend the tour time period. The cost is the same as the hourly rate of your tour. Example: if your standard tour cost is say $70 per hour, then to extend another hour the charge will be $70 for the additional hour.
