About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- bluesrus700 contributionskeep awaythe office staff are the same as walking country so be wary if you are looking at their tours. i would not recommend them, they like to take your money and then treat you like crap. 1 star is too much for this companyWritten 8 September 2022
- MartyDownunder0 contributionsYOU CAN' T BOOK TOURSThe tour operator has gone into liquidation .. I can't find a way to tell Tripadvisor . SO YOU CAN' T BOOK TOURS SEE THEIR WEB SITEWritten 26 March 2022
- Mike F0 contributionsFailure to return moneyI paid (in full) for this trip but due to Covid-19 have been unable to travel. I requested a refund in June 2021 but 7 months later the company has not returned my money. They have even stopped acknowledging my emails. I find this totally unacceptable as they have AU$1854 of my money.Written 24 January 2022
- J188UXmeganb0 contributionsNo Refund - company cancelled tripMade a booking in Aug 2021 of which was cancelled 2 Sep 2021 by the company. Still waiting for refund and keep getting given the runaround by the company. Happy to take the money and acknowledge they need to refund but am still waiting. Have contacted the company multiple times but keep getting blown off , last excuse " I have emailed the finance manager and unfortunately cannot advise you until I hear back". No customer service as that was 2 months ago.Written 18 January 2022
- Elisa J0 contributionsPoor communication and refusal to refundMy sister and I bought a day trip to Litchfield with Wayoutback Safaris at the start of 2020. We weren’t able to complete the trip due to the impacts of COVID but were promised a refund by the company at the time. It is now almost two years later and despite multiple disregarded emails, emails promising that a refund will be issued shortly and no contact phone number - in addition to an email from the CEO asking customers not to post complaints on social media due to the impacts of COVID on the company - we are yet to receive a refund. The company continues to operate, distributing a “skeleton staff” out of office email, all the while bringing out new tour offerings, but refuses to refund customers who are also struggling to contend with the impacts of COVID - the effects of the pandemic have affected the livelihoods of customers in addition to companies. I sympathise with companies struggling at this time but it is not fair to hold onto the funds of customers who are unable to experience a company’s services.Written 26 December 2021
- clairebear8020 contributionsSeriously poor communicationWe booked this tour in April with the border closure refund policy in mind. We paid our balance at the end of August, and just over a week later got an email saying our tour was cancelled. We were asked if we wanted a date change or refund. We asked for a refund. For the next six weeks following this, despite us emailing, messaging, calling etc, we only heard back once. I ended up having to contact NT consumer affairs (speak to Amanda - she was a great help) who provided me with other avenues to pursue. We of course understand that the current time is hard for tourism businesses such as this, however, a little communication goes a long way. Not hearing anything back, we feared we would never see our $4000 and they were ignoring us to be dodgy. I finally got my money back yesterday after saying my next step was to go to VCAT and lodge a legally binding order for a refund. The whole experience was really stressful. Communication would have completely changed the course of how we felt about this situation and what we needed to do to rectify it.Written 15 October 2021
- 612JaneB0 contributionsDisappointed, not as advertisedTaking this tour from Jabiru, we spent around 30 minutes on board driving to pick up other passengers before heading off to the Fall. I say Fall as, although it's advertised as going to Twin Falls - it did not. Twin Falls had been closed all season! No forewarning or price reduction. Onwards towards Jin Jin Falls the air-conditioner broke down. It was a sunny 37 degree day and we had about 90minutes drive time to get to the first stop, a toilet break. Inside the back cabin people were suffering with heat stroke and would have been at least 50 degrees. Had to get the guide to pull over as a young lady was overcome by the heat. Getting off the bus the air outside felt cool even though it was 37°! Another 25mins inside the hot box to get to the Falls felt like hours as the road was terrible, not the tours fault. The walk (read climb) to the Falls after being so hot was very difficult. Then the bus broke down 5mins after leaving the falls, but the guide and others managed to get it back on the road. Back on the hot bus for about an hour or so we met up with a substitute bus which thankfully had working air conditioning. I have requested a partial/full refund on several occasions, without success, as this tour was not as advertised and we had quite a distressing day.Written 7 October 2021
- LMAussiegal0 contributionsAuthentic Kakadu Experience 10/10Absolutely amazing and immersive small group experience! They are the real deal. With a max of 16 ppl in a 4wd bus, you’re guaranteed lots of adventure & going off the beaten track. They really know what they’re doing. We did their 3 Day/ 2 Night Kakadu tour. We can’t speak highly enough of our tour guide Leigh. His wealth of local knowledge across land and country, culture and animals was so educational and he has a great sense of humour & such a positive happy energy. He has so much passion and loves sharing everything he knows with his guests. Leigh was also very flexible and accommodating to our needs and the changing weather. Thank you so much Leigh for tweaking our itinerary to make everyone comfortable when it hit 39 degrees and we needed some extra swim time! Thank you so much!Written 29 September 2021
- CarolynandAllan0 contributionsBest tour guide we have ever had.My husband and I went on the Uluru, Kata Tjuta & Kings Canyon tour in early September 2021. Our guide was Robert (Robbie) and we were very impressed by his enthusiasm, passion, knowledge and consideration of each individual in his care. Robert put our safety first above all else in every situation; he didn’t rush us and he was always trying to make the trip our best experience possible - thank you Robert. We loved all the Spring wildflowers, Aboriginal art and culture, and the magnificent colours and rock shapes. The food on the trip was great and it was a wonderful experience.Written 17 September 2021
- stephencL4988BA0 contributionsCamping adventureWhat a wonderful trip. We travelled with friends and made new friends in our group. The scenery, the companionship, and the fun experiences along the way made it so memorable. But by far the best thing about this trip was Robert our tour guide, he worked tirelessly to show us our beautiful country, to feed us, to encourage us to do things we hadn’t planned (like spend the night in swags) and now we’re so grateful to him for an experience we could have missed. It was a fantastic trip. Thank you Robert. This trip is adventurous but worth it.Written 15 September 2021
- lizard132600 contributionsUnbelievable Wayoutback 4WD Camping tourMy husband and I have recently returned from Uluru on this 5 day 4WD camping tour. Whilst the scenery was spectacular it was better than I could have imagined. What a country we live in! Our tour guide Robert Herzog made our 5 days truly memorable. His passion for The Australian outback and his knowledge of our indigenous culture and story telling was remarkable. My husband had some challenges with some of the walks due to bad knees however Robert went out of his way to ensure my husband had a full inclusive experience. Whilst the scenery was amazing Robert as our guide was what made our holiday one to remember. Liz SmithWritten 14 September 2021
- 955jadef0 contributionsTrip of a lifetimeThe Ultimate experience. I could not have asked for a better tour. The red center is like another world. Our tour guide Robert was next level. He was so passionate and energetic and showed care for everyone in our group. His knowledge was incredible and his delivery kept everyone wanting to hear more. The only downside was that the time went too fast.Written 12 September 2021
- nomadicmongrel0 contributionsReal outback, real adventureMy husband and I went on the 6 day outback tour to Uluru and other red centre highlights. It was spectacular. Our guide Robbie was awesome and had so much knowledge and passion about the area and its history. We felt very well looked after. The food was fantastic and freshly cooked every night. Sleeping out in a swag under the desert night sky watching shooting stars with our new found friends was something I will never forget. Can highly recommend!Written 12 September 2021
- Caroline B0 contributionsTop End ExperienceOur 5 day Jabiru Dreaming 4WD tour of Kakadu, Litchfield and Katherine in early August was lots of fun and truly memorable. Our guide Candice was fantastic. Highly capable (incredible 4WD skills!,) very informative about both the landscape and indigenous culture. Her passion for the top end was infectious. Emma our assistant guide was also super helpful and very informative and between the two of them they worked hard to ensure we had a really enjoyable holiday. Candice and Emma would effortlessly produce really great food including lunchtime picnics, ensure we always had ice cold water in our bus each day, a book box we could browse through for reading, and organise beautiful playlists for us to listen to as we observed the amazing landscape roll by our bus windows! Our early starts were certainly worthwhile as it enabled us to get to see the most amazing sites without other tour buses or travellers. There's something rather mystical driving at sunrise and sunset. The camp sites were clean and comfortable in caravan and camping sites which had great amenities including bars and swimming pools and most importantly clean showers and toilets! Our individual packs containing sleeping bags, towel and sheet was easily organised. My advice is that if you are seeking a really memorable and enjoyable experience, in the company of like minded enthusiastic travellers , then I highly recommend this top end experience.Written 11 September 2021
- Gabrielle M0 contributionsLiars, scammers, don't careSCAMMERS. We booked this tour and found out on the day (with the rest of the tour) that Twin falls had been closed for over 2 months prior. The company and the tour guide did not care, even though their terms said they would offer an alternative. They offered no alternative and took our money for both falls. They are in breach of consumer laws through misleading and deceptive conduct.Written 11 September 2021

We did the 3 day Goanna Dreaming 4WD tour and Dave was our guide/driver. He was great and everyone on the tour pitched in with setting up camp, collecting fire wood and helped with food prep which made things run really smoothly. The permanent tents in camp were basic but enough for what you needed for an overnight stay, after all you are there to see the sights not the inside of your tent! Everywhere we visited was amazing and the information provided by Dave about each place was great. At Uluru we had a local aboriginal lady Joanne talk about and show us some of the ways they have survived on the land for thousands of years, it was very interesting. This tour does not allow anytime for climbing Uluru as they actively advise you not to climb it, which was ok for us. The walk through the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) in truly incredible and even more so was the walk at Kings Canyon. This is a very beautiful part of Australia and one that everyone should see.

I want to start off this review with stating I am not a camper. I have never been camping in my life so this was an adventure for me. I had a great time though. We had a great tour guide in Gus. He is extremely sarcastic but being from the Northeast of the US that is right up my ally. While Uluru was amazing, the hike at Kata Tjuta was the highlight. We paid for tents but slept in a swag at kings canyon which apparently is the best place to view stars (someone said a 9/10)! Its so amazing you can even see some of the Milky Way. While the facilities are definitely camping facilities, it provided a place to take a hot shower and plumbing for bathroom. There were outlets at the first campsite for charging phones or if you need it blow drying hair. The days are long (sun rise to sun set) and some of the hikes are on the challenging side. Some of the older folks in our group had some issues but they made it through unharmed. I will say after the 3 days I was very happy to get to a hotel room haha. The food was much better than I expected for a camping trip, so I was very satisfied. All in all I highly rate this tour.

Our guide, Dean, was very knowledgeable and obviously enjoyed his job, which the group appreciated. The views and scenery on this tour are stunning... but it is not for the faint of heart! Very early starts on all 3 days (if you are picked up in Alice Springs on Day #1), rustic campsites (especially at Uluru - several blocks away from the bathrooms; King's Canyon was nicer) and long hikes over rugged terrain. That said, you can opt for shorter hikes, but you should still be in good condition and like to "rough it." The trip was a once in a lifetime experience, to be sure.

Dear Expoblana, thanks for taking the time to leave a review.
Our aim is to provide unforgettable tours to the NT so it's great to hear that you enjoyed your time on tour with us and that you found it to be a once in a lifetime experience.
It's a pleasure to read your comments regarding our guide, Dean, and I will be sure to pass them on to both Dean and the necessary management to ensure he is recognised for his efforts.
I appreciate your honest summary of the scenery, campsites and hikes. Our safaris are aimed at the active traveller and as such a certain level of fitness is required to fully enjoy your time with us. As we focus on providing an authentic outback camping experience our campsites are basic but comfortable (certainly not to be compared with glamping but we do have facilities including a kitchen and bathroom block nearby). The bathrooms can be located a short walk from the campsite as you have mentioned and as such we recommend all passengers pack a flashlight when travelling with us.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and I hope that you enjoy the rest of your time in Australia. All the best on your future travels.

We were picked up (Early) at our Alice hotel by Phil and Ralph, Phil being the Guide/Driver/Cook/ Master of Information and Ralph being the Bus/Truck (4WD).
Mixed group in ages and type, from young (read Uni age) singles and couples through 30 somethings, some with parents and older couples, like you know , to 60 odd (ancient).Mostly European.
Distance is actually a thing out there, nothing is just down the road, get used to it.
Drove to Uluru in the morning, Lunch at the 1st night Camp which is south of the main Uluru resort and fairly secluded. The Indigenous tour and post excursion with Phil around sections of the base where excellent,.
Camps are good with the option of permanent tents or swags for those who like sleeping in or on canvas sacks, plenty of good food, remember this is open cooking not hatted stuff.
Next day (did I mention early) out to Kata Tjuta, really excellent and then another trip north to Kings Creek station near (NT type near not next door) Kings Creek Canyon. really excellent campsite out on the ranges, one of the highlights.
Kings canyon is an absolute treat, the stepped climb at the start is a bit of a bugger, 100 metres basically up..
back to Alice in the afternoon.
Tour Guide was really great, a wealth of information, personable, professional and kept the group going really well.
expect to do a few chores on the way, relax and enjoy a beautiful part of the world.

Dear Stephen,
Thank you for your fantastic review. It sounds like you really made the most of your time on tour and picked up a few of the quirks of territory life (never trust a Territorian when they say "just around the corner"!!!!)

We booked the 2 night, 3 day Goanna Dreaming 4WD tour. It was our favourite part of our trip to Australia !! It was expensive, yes, but totally worth it! Our guide Rhett was amazing and so knowledgable and fun! We saw Uluru (at sunset and sunrise) and Kata Tjuta with an experienced guide who explained so many things to us - we learned a lot! We really enjoyed all the hiking and the stories that Rhett told us. Sleeping under the stars in a swag was an unforgettable experience and amazingly comfortable and warm. We have never seen so many stars- incredible!! And Rhett knew so much about the stars and showed us some southern hemisphere constellations that, being from Canada, we had never seen, but heard about. We loved getting our own wood for the campfires that included Rhett's fabulous guitar playing, helping in the camp kitchen and getting to know the others in our group. Everyone was "from away" (as they say in Newfoundland, Canada:)), so we got to know folks from all over the world. An unforgettable, amazing experience down under! TIP*** If you go to the outback, BUY A FLY NET BEFORE YOU GO! Seriously - without the net, in the heat of the day, the flies make you crazy, and they are only about $10.

From booking to the end of the trip, we experienced professional and efficient service which we did enjoy and would like to have another trip with them again! We not only had good sight views, experienced different life, but also learned a lot about the culture, phytology, astronomy and etc. Our guide Rhett is our photographer, chef, singer and super star! He gave us warm welcoming and shared many stories and knowledge with us. He is very friendly and helpful, provided us good support during the tour. Thanks a lot all wayoutback team as we understand it is not easy to make the trip so interesting and impressive!

We all had a great time on this tour. We only did the one night as we joined at Uluru airport, this was awkward to start with as our plane was late and the luggage took an age to come out. So we felt we held things up a bit as the rest of the group were on the truck waiting. But we soon got in the swing of it. Phil was excellent very knowledgeable and his instructions were clear and precise. Sleeping in the swag is a must do as the night sky is amazing. The guided tour around Uluru was very good our local guide Verna was brilliant as was the interpreter.
The sunset and sunrise was spectacular and well worth the early start.

The Dingo Dreaming Safari is great for those passengers with limited time but I'm sure you'll agree is worth it just for a night spent under the stars!

- is that possible to bring a wheel chair in the car just in case?

Hi I think you just pay more for single so you have it to yourself, all the permanent tents are exactly the same.
