Overview

Get to know the Australian capital with this electric bike tour of Canberra. Visit Reconciliation Place, the National Portrait Gallery, Parliament House, and more. Take in lake and mountain views and ride through lovely parks, gardens, and leafy boulevards. Admire the beautiful scenery as you learn about Canberra’s design, history, and vibrant contemporary culture.

What to Expect

Your electric bike trip starts at the beginning: in Reconciliation Place, with stories of Australia’s First Nations peoples and their enduring connection to the country.

It’s a short ride to the nearby National Portrait Gallery and High Court precinct, where the story of Australia is still unfolding — as your guide will reveal along the way.

Riding along parkland terraces your pedal assist electric bike glides you with relative ease up the hill to Parliament House for stunning hilltop vistas, and a few stories about what goes inside “the big house” as the locals call it.

Freewheeling back down the hill we take some lesser known routes through side gardens and tree lined boulevards to emerge at the National Gallery of Australia where we take a short break to experience some epic outdoor art.

Crossing over the Kings Avenue bridge we pause at Aspen Island and the 50m tall National Carillon (bell tower), soaking up views across the central lake to the mountains beyond. It’s a cruisy ride along the wide, smooth RG (Bob) Menzies path around the lake. You can catch Bob for a selfie later where he is frozen in time on one of his Prime Ministerial morning walks.

Pausing at the terraces below the grand ANZAC Parade we learn how the city was designed to fit into the surrounding landscape, and why at its heart you find a triangle.  Then gliding through tree lined paths of Commonwealth Park we return to the lake and to the Captain Cook monuments showing his journeys of exploration.

To complete our circuit of the central lake we head over Commonwealth Bridge, pausing to glimpse into the lives of an Australian of the Year, or two, to arrive at the Avenue of Flags.  Diving up the blue stone “slot” of Commonwealth Place we emerge back at Questacon (the science museum) where our 12-kilometre circuit of discovery ends. With a bunch of insider tips from your guide you are now more than ready to enjoy more of the best the nation’s capital has to offer.

After the trip you can choose to take a stroll to one of three nearby cafes for coffee or lunch. Or mosey on through the art galleries or exhibitions at the National Library, or go for some hands-on exploration of science and technology at Questacon.

About our bikes: If you can ride a bike you can ride an electric bike. No licence needed! Our easy-to-use electric bikes make riding a breeze for all levels of fitness… so you can focus on what’s out there and not on the pedal pushing. All fun and no sweat!

We provide helmets, instructions and a chance to practice on the bikes before we set off. The bikes are equipped with comfy seats and handlebar bags for your phone, camera and other essentials. We stick mainly to cycle paths well away from the cars and take plenty of stops so you can learn how the city ticks and take in the vistas.

Thank you. This is why I've tried hard to provide e-bike for all the family! And thanks for recommending me to your Queensland friends who did a grandparent + grandchildren ride around the lake this morning.

The ride around the lake was about 2 hours. We didn’t go inside the galleries etc. You could go back afterwards and visit those of interest.
