    Great place
Love this place more than the zoo. Nice little atmosphere the kids have so much fun here. And they do season passes which is great

    Welcome to the rainforest
Relaxed and friendly animals greet you. I always buy the little bag of food. My favourite is the KEA and the deer. For a real animal experience that’s as close to nature as you can get this is always my choice.

    Trip with the grandchild
Staglands is a fabulous place. I last visited about 8 years ago and since then it has developed much more. The animals are healthy and relaxed. Their yards are clean. It’s a great time of year to visit. We saw very young pigs let’s and ducklings. Some animals mix together. The walks are tranquil and beautiful with a mixture of native bush and exotic plants. The facilities are good including a cafe.

Great day out for the family
As a birthday treat me and the family took a trip out to Staglands and to never fails to deliver. The animals and village are an equal attraction and never get stale. A great day out for the family and excellent customer service at the desk and cafë, A particular highlight was roasting the marshmallows on the ‘bonfire’ followed by the tractor ride. The only thing we do miss is the rabbits in the secret garden and sometimes the deers aren’t roaming free, other than that, a perfect family experience for the animal lover.

Cool place to take the kids
Great nature place to take your children, road in is terrible and the locals drive very speedy but once you are there it is very cool, you can feed birds etc and trout. Has always baffled me though that the cafe does not cater well with meal options for kids apart from hot chips, considering most of us go there because of our kids. My burger this time unfortunately had a dry stale bun.

    Fun day outing with kids.
Was a fun day outing with young kids. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Right in the middle of the nature was a great location. They had an on-site cafe with good options for food and beverages.

    Fandabbydozy!!!!
We visited Staglands just a couple of days ago and it was EPIC!!!!!! So nicely set up and looked after and even better than we expected!! Easy to follow tracks around the beautiful area, and lovely, healthy looking happy animals to interact with and enjoy. We spent a good hour or so wondering around and would highly recommend a visit! Thanks Sarah and the team for making our visit so easy!

    Staglands great, coffee not great
Staglands was amazing. So cool with all the animals. The coffee was really not good; milk tasted off. Service was lovely though.

    Good
It’s a little wildlife sanctuary where kids and adults alike can enjoy. They few several animals you can encounter and feed. The view of the mountain side is stunning. There is also river crossing the property, and there are picnic areas where you can just chill and enjoy with your family while hearing then river flows. They have a considerable amount of deers and sheep at the other end of the property and you can claim up that mountain side to have a closer encounter with the deers. They also have a cafe but closes early. The drive up to the property is curvy so be careful.

    Feed the animals!
It was chilly and rainy the day we decided to make this trip and I LOVED IT. The drive up the mountain is a little hairy with the narrow twisty road, but so beautiful. The staff on duty were incredibly nice and so warm. The food was good and the coffee warmed us right up in time to go wander around looking at the birds and animals. The stags were my favorite and well worth the walk, but the ducks were really cute too. We never found the trout pond but were kind of soggy and cold so we gave up.

    Staglands, more than I expected
Decided it was time to visit Staglands and so pleased we did. What an amazing place and lots more than we expected. A lovely stroll in the bush , greeted by many friendly animals all wanting a pat or a bite to eat. Amazing buildings to explore and places of interest everywhere. Easy walk on a well fenced area, walk through avairy and padocks where the animals come to greet you. A great cafe with well priced tasty food at the end of your journey. Check it out on line and make it avplace to visit.

    Amazing Reserve. Must Do.
What an absolutely amazing place. So much to see, well laid out footpaths, good size carpark, cafe and facilities. We are an 'older' couple with no children in tow touring NZ and we loved it. We recommend buying some trout feed for your wander and walking the path by the waterfall behind the lake. Take your time on the roads leading to Staglands as they are very twisty especially to the west ... that said, it is well worth the effort.

    Such a cool place
A truly wonderful place! Walk and feed the animals, immerse yourself in nature as you walk around the park. The little village is awesome and so good to see the church finally completed. I’ve visited this place numerous times over my 20 years in NZ and will be back again. Disappointed I didn’t get my free entry, being born in 1972 I thought it was free entry for those that turned 50 in 2022!

Had an amazing day in the park with all the animals. Afterwards we went to the cafe, when entering we were told to sit down and wait to be table served. We we're waiting for 15 minutes, then asked a waitress for service, she told us to sit back down and wait for service. So we waited another 15 minutes with no service, after which we just left. (note cafe was pretty quiet at this time).

Would recommend the park to anyone, but our overall experience was ruined by the staff in the cafe.

Well organized wildlife reserve, with animals happy and healthy. Be careful in the deer area, some of the animals can be a bit agressive when they see food bags. If you don’t like this, keep the food bag hidden of they will sniff it out! There are plenty of signs to warn you. Great place for kids, with several things to see other than just animals. Worth a stop at the small onsite cafe. Well priced, good food, and great staff.

Thank you for your review! We are glad that you found our reserve organized and our animals happy and healthy. Feeding time is always an exciting event for our animals and they can get overly enthusiastic. Will pass this on to our staff - they will surely be delighted! We hope to see you again soon!

We had the most amazing day at Staglands. It is an awesome reserve, very well maintained and vibrant. It is a great way to spend at least half a day walking through animal enclosures. Many birds, particularly the peacocks are free to wander and seem to make the most of it. We enjoyed the tractor trailer ride, picnic by the lazy river, ponds with trout, turtles, swans and ducks, and the relics from the past. The cafe served us an excellent mocha and tea.

Staglands is very unique in a beautiful tranquil setting - its great for all ages and especially those who love animals
It has a rustic and historic charm, its beautifully kept and one of NZs treasures. Our family love it and have visited many times. Was lovely in July to relax by the fire while having lunch - we also loved the tractor ride - will be back again.

Right in with the animals and birds. Gentle stroll through the woodland. Swaying bridge logs over the river. Land Rover, train and push along carriage to go on.
