Take a break from your guidebook on a walking tour of Florence’s most important sights. Explore the perfectly preserved city center while learning the history behind medieval landmarks, such as the Piazza della Signoria, Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Vecchio, and the famous Florence Cathedral (Duomo di Firenze). You’ll also cross the romantic Ponte Vecchio bridge to visit the Oltrarno, a vibrant artisan district that many visitors miss.
  • Check off most of Florence’s highlights on a walking tour of the medieval city
  • Hear the stories behind Renaissance palaces, medieval squares, and public art
  • Cross the Ponte Vecchio into the less-visited Oltrarno district
  • See Pitti Palace, where the city’s Medici rulers once lived
What to Expect
Meet your city guide in Piazza della Repubblica and learn about Florence’s ancient Roman roots in this historic square. Continue to the remarkable Duomo complex, a cluster of sacred structures, including St. John’s Baptistery, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and the Florence Cathedral, capped by Brunelleschi’s dome. Admire the statues in the open-air museum of Piazza della Signoria, flanked by the imposing Palazzo Vecchio. Pass the renowned Uffizi Gallery en route to the Ponte Vecchio, and eye the wares at the goldsmiths’ shops that line Florence’s most famous bridge. Then, cross the River Arno to the Oltrarno district; admire the grand Pitti Palace, former home of the powerful Medici family, and stroll past the antique shops of Via Maggio. Cross back to the city center via the Ponte Santa Trinita and then window shop the high-fashion boutiques of ritzy Via Tornabuoni on the way to Renaissance Palazzo Strozzi, where this tour through Florentine history ends.
