About the operator

- lsrc230 contributionsSplit Apple Guided KayakFab day, all members of my grouped loved it. Including the guide, we paddled out with 6 of us. Emily was a fantastic guide. Whole process was seamless, no waiting around or being unsure. Company provided wind breaker jackets and dry bags. Kayaked out to Split apple rock, had tea/coffee and a break on the beach. Our guide had picnic rugs, extra layers if we were cold, wind proof jackets etc felt like they'd thought of everything to give us a great trip. Timing was great, long enough to have fun and feel like we've had an experience without feeling tired/it going on for too long. Grateful for the hot showers at the end!Written 6 March 2024
- meganf4190 contributionsPerfect way to see Able TasmanThis was a great experience! I loved all the secluded beaches we stopped at and all the wild life we saw! Darrel was an awesome guide and had a lot of wonderful information about the area and New Zealand as a whole. Would highly recommend this kayak company!Written 21 February 2024
- Diavan20140 contributionsAdventure in a stunningly beautiful placeOur kayak adventure with Able Tasman Kayaks was well managed from beginning to end. Every staff member from was friendly, helpful and efficient but Mitchell, our guide, was amazing. His ability to anticipate our needs, keep to the schedule, to provide the details we needed, to make the necessary adjustments (on the third day he provided us with a walking option that was very satifying) and to prepare healthy, delicious meals and snacks for up to 10 of us was truly amazing. The campsites were set up for us and we even had air mattresses. We are not strong paddlers so a kayak/walk/kayak may have been a better choice for us as the waves and headwind around a couple of of the points were hard but Mitchell made it work for us. Thank you Mitchell! I highly recommend Abel Tasman Kayaks for an adventure in a stunningly beautiful place.Written 15 February 2024
- Kbartravel0 contributionsFun but briefAbel Tasman Sea Kayaks’ facility and operation were efficient and well-organized. Our guide was friendly, interesting, and capable. We enjoyed our kayaking but were disappointed that it was significantly shorter duration, especially time in the water, even though there were no delays getting out, weather was great, and group seemed totally up for doing the amount of kayaking suggested by the itinerary.Written 13 February 2024
- Paradise228015650030 contributionsThe magic Abel TasmanWhat a fantastic family trip! Whitney the super guide looked after us so well! The food was amazing, nothing was rushed and a good amount of paddling each day. My son is also Coeliac and they catered for him extremely well. Blue water, green bush and golden sand. Absolutely magic! 💯 recommend!Written 4 February 2024
- M933UElisap0 contributionsFantastic 3 Day Freedom Kayak Park StartFantastic ‘Freedom Kayak’ (self guided) 3 day Park Start. Highly recommended! On our water taxi drop off Skipper went out of his way to look for dolphins that he had heard were around, and what a show they put on for us! Incredible advice from guide Tom before we set out to wait for the tides on day 2 so we didn’t miss being able to paddle in the lagoons. They were so peaceful and great to spot sea life. We saw lots of seals, a ray, a penguin, many shags, etc. It is such a gorgeous place and the campsites (especially Mosquito Bay) are magical. We also had time to do 2 small hikes from anchorage Campground recommended byTom, including a swim and waterslide in Cleopatra’s Pool. Excellent equipment. I wish we had had a full week in AT. Just go. You wont regret it!Written 31 January 2024
- Kelsey00000 contributionsAmazing tripJust completed the three day great walk from Totoranui to Marahau. Jordan, our tour guide was exceptional. Great food & drinks. In the short time he has been working there he knows the history of this amazing national park and has a real passion for the outdoors. Next trip I will be booking a kayaking tour. Highly recommend anyone wanting to book a tour, book it through Abel Tasman Kayaks!Written 17 January 2024
- NinaB3100 contributionsSimply SpectacularFrom the first email to the shower at the end of our trip our experience with ATK was exceptional. Every team member was professional, friendly, helpful and great to deal with and our guide, Awatea, was fantastic. I can't recommend the Three Day Classic enough. We added an extra day to our trip and walked from Totoranui to Anapai Bay return then on to Awaroa for the night. Tip: pack reef shoes to cross the Awaroa inlet and a plastic bag to put them in afterwards. We met our guide and Kayaks on the beach, had a very clear briefing before hitting the water. The next 3 days were full of adventure information, stories, fun, breathtaking scenery (especially Shag Harbour), delicious meals and possibly the best activity-based trip we have ever done. Our group of 6 (family of 4 and 2 friends) would do it again in a heartbeat.Written 16 January 2024
- SimonR38910 contributionsAwesome Kyak adventure for all - WOWAwesome day of kyaking with small group & our guide Jordan. He had not been guiding at Abel Tasman Kyaks much more than 3mths, but without a doublt he knows his stuff & even ALL the local points if interest. He is professional an seasoned veteran . Very attentive to all needs & abillities. Not had to recomend thus as a must do if you want to how NZ used to be, prime untouched, golden sand water. Perfect weather *29 C made for a perfect day for all, incleding 2 teenage boys. A nice workout with plenty of rewards at many bays from Arwaroa down to Barks bay, with serveral swims & lunch along the way. 10/10 Jordan - keep doing what you do, a real credit to the Team at Abel Tasman kyaks!!!Written 11 January 2024

He was very knowledgeable and always put the guest experience and safety first. All meals / snacks were delicious and GF wasn’t an issue. Camp sites were excellent. Highly recommend ATK and would love to do another trip in the future.Written 9 January 2024

- Trek276597590760 contributionsMust-do kayak trip in New ZealandHad an amazing time! Did the 2 day guided overnight trip. Our guide Emily did an awesome job at telling us all about the area, cooking our meals, and helping us have a wonderful trip. The scenery was absolutely stunning! Everything was organized and setup for us so that we were able to just enjoy the national park. Loved getting to sleep in the tent overnight so that we could spend as much time as possible, and we didn't even have to set it up! We will 100% be looking to go back one day. I couldn't of imagined a better trip!Written 30 December 2023
- paulahX9278JD0 contributionsAn unforgettable tripWe went on a day Kayak and stayed overnight at Anchorage. Abel Tasman Kayaks organised everything for us and phoned the day before to confirm our plan for the next day. This is important as the tide and wind can impact trips in the Abel Tasman. The change in plan meant we had perfect conditions all day for Kayaking. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and made the trip a lot of fun. I am a bit scared of the water but felt very safe with our guide.Written 22 December 2023
- GlenysB560 contributionsPaddling in ParadiseWhat a fabulous half day paddling with AT kayaks after 3 days walking the track. Tachelle was a top notch guide who definitely knows her stuff and was also passionate about sharing info on the local birds, seals and Mārahau history. Thanks Tāwhirimatea for keeping an eye on the weather for us. Especially after a rather blustery previous day walking where we had seen what it could be like paddling without a guide!! We loved the opportunity to explore via the kayak, some caves a peaceful estuary and Adele Island. We even got a swim in at the Observation Bay lunch stop. Great lunch too. Having walked heaps the last 3 days we opted to water taxi back. So fortunate to live in this beautiful country “ Living our best lives in our 60’s.Written 12 December 2023

We did this day in early October and had a fabulous time.
The whole process was smooth and hassle free, the gear was good and the packed lunch (with coffee!) was delicious.
Our guide (Awatea) did a great job of briefing us, getting us going out on the water, and sharing information about the area. The seals were an unexpected bonus.
We were then shuttled to the start of our walk on a super speedy boat where we strolled the 6+km north to our pick-up point.
After that it was a quick trip back to base, with a few more pick-ups, along the way.
Thoroughly recommend this option if you only have one day.
We were trio of 50+ women and had a blast.
Thanks guys :)

These guys are amazing. They made everything so easy. We hired kayaks for the first day, then they organised bag drops to near the huts for subsequent nights, and the water taxi out at the end. They really went the extra mile. We forgot an essential item, and they arranged for it to be dropped off at the next hut. Absolutely brilliant!!!!!!

Originally I sighed up for a different longer Abel Tasman day tour but on the day of the tour the weather was changing and the wind was picking up, so I was offered a shorter kayaking and walking. And think it was thoughtful and responsible on the part of Abel Tasman Kayak company. The waters for sea kayaking was already pretty rough. Abel Tasman Kayak does a great job on briefing and guiding on the ocean. They are very well organized. The transportation they provide from Nelson’s hotels was on time and very comfortable. Will recommend this company if you want to kayak and walk in Abel Tasman.

We had a lovely time with this activity. It started with excellent communication on part of the tour operators- we needed to understand options for one of our group who had a shoulder injury (prior to the trip). They assured us they would provide a water taxi for that person, meaning they could still participate in the hike.
The hike was beautiful and not too challenging. We took every overlook spur trail and still met the guide at a fabulous beach in plenty of time for lunch and relaxation before the kayak portion. Lunch was fresh and delicious. Guide was amusing. Kayak and “sailing” back was enjoyable.

We chose a three day tiki tour and the whole family loved it! It includes a bit of everything: walking, kayaking, camping and glamping for a treat. And everything is thoughtfully provided! The forecast was for inclement weather, we were thrilled that Abel Tasman kayak’s knowledge and experience meant they came up with a safe option to let us paddle and explore. With two quite different overnight stays, we had a chance to get personal and close with the park, to take in the beauty, the sounds, to touch the water and the sand, and to lose some of our food to the park “owners” - the wekas. We had one day of guided kayaking with a fantastic guide teaching us useful skills and telling insightful stories. The highlights were raft sailing and silence in Shag Harbour. And a box of biscuits, my 12 year old would add! It has been a great introduction revealing how much is still left for the next visit.

Friend and I did a two day kayak and walk. Started with kayak on day one. The kayak was all packed with our overnight camp gear we hired from the place. Location and parking was easy. Good safety demonstration and a short ride to launch site on back of tractor/trailer. Site had a good setup with shower and toilet facilities. Staff were very helpful on arrival and departure. Camp gear that we hired was good condition and all accounted for. We arrived at Anchorage and unpacked the kayak, setup our camp site. Kayaks were picked up off the beach where we were instructed to leave. Next day we left our camp gear at site and continued north to Onetahuti (recommend walking extra distance for beautiful beach. Otherwise end at Barks Bay). Water taxi (company owned) collected us right on schedule. Super friendly and considerate boat driver. We had amazing weather and can’t fault the experience! We did two day walk that doesn’t include meals.
Suggest the company does a departure checklist for visitors. Things like how much we can fit in kayak/what types of bags can fit and how to pack food would be helpful for first-timers. Even meal suggestions would be great idea. In case reader is wondering: suggest a medium sized backpack per person plus a bag for meals. On day two you have to carry all your personal gear including food containers and rubbish - think about what and how you’re willing to carry these things on your walk the next day.
Recommend this experience and the company 100%. Thanks team!

Our guide was excellent, we had a fantastic time kayaking in the Tasman Sea. The scenery is beautiful, the kayaking great. Love the rock formations and the history of the area. Very interesting. We opted out of kayaking over to seal island as it was windy and rough. After kayaking we had coffee on the beach and hiked over to another beach to sail back to where we started. All in all a great day. Because of Covid 19 we were one of the last groups so it was the guide and me and my husband. I'd recommend this highly.

I booked the Walk&Kayak Tour with Abel Tasman Kayaks including pickup from Nelson. The stuff has been very nice, reliable, puntual and created a highly enjoyable tour! The introduction into the gear, risks, and rules were thoroughly done, and I felt very comfortable. The kayaking was not exhausting at all, even I never did it before. The stuff took care at all times for their group and allowed for enough breaks for arms ;-) Coffee-Cake and Lunch time were very tasty too! A great day!

We did the half day kayak and hike back with a lunch stop. The whole day was awesome, including our guide and the training. The weather was perfect which of course helps. But the bird sanctuary island with the fur seals was worth the price of admission, but then of course there was the rest of it.

Absolutely brilliant team at Able Tasman kayaks. Alex was our leader and was full of enthusiasm and knowledge - impressive rattling off of species, flora and fauna. Weather was pretty rough but she led us safely in swelling seas. Great lunch. There was a slight mishap with a personal T shirt but the company more than made up for it. Great bunch of people . I heartily recommend them
