    Disappointing and poor value
The offering at the Visitor Center was very disappointing. The area was small, with many explanatory panels, some stuffed crabs and fish, but only a few live fish and sea urchins. It had the atmosphere of a natural history museum 50 years ago, and I doubt it would have held any child's interest for long. We saw no puffins at all. We DID see a small whale briefly, which is what pushed the review up to 2 stars. I don't know if there is always one there, or if we were just lucky. We were finished in 15 minutes and sorry to say it left us feeling let down and ill disposed towards its operators.

    Well spent entrance money.
If you want to know your entrance fee goes to do good work with beluga whales then you should definitely visit. Right now, Nov 2023, the two whales are in a tank and you can see them happily playing. They have tried to put them into an amazing looking, purpose built playground, in the Icelandic sea.

    Puffins and whales
Can’t say enough about Orm(not sure how to spell it)p He was such a nice man to let us in early so we could make it back in time for the ferry. He shared a few stories about his family and the sanctuary with us which made it more personal. The puffins and whales were so cute to see and watch. We had a great time.

Good small aquarium to support the rescue Belugas and the Puffins. Wish we could have seen. The Belugas but they were in the open water area and yours out there hadn’t begun yet. Website said it was closed so had we not walked by we mmm and saw lights on we would have missed it! Need to keep website current/ updated

Good way to spend a couple of hours and worthy of support
Got to see the whales in their indoor quarantine pool- what a thrill! The rescue puffins are adorable and the whole place is doing very worthwhile work which needs our support.

    A nice place
We visited with friends and loved seeing Little White and Little Grey. One of them brought her basketball to the window to show us, which was so dear. The employees told us they enjoy having visitors come to their window. The rescued puffins and sea birds were nice to see as well. A small sanctuary, but their work is so important here.

    Fantastic Place
Very easy to find, we visited straight from the ferry. The first thing to realise before you visit, is that this is a sanctuary. A rescue place for injured puffins and the 2 beluga whales. If you want to see a whale show, then get a flight to Florida. The visit starts with a video explaining the background and then you tour the puffin area and see the hospital / recovery area for the puffins. It’s all done through large viewing windows, which were fine. It is quiet so no issues with having your view blocked. As you continue the tour, there are star fishes, fish and other aquariums. Lots of interesting information on display. Then you come to the Belugas viewing window. WOW, they were literally repeatedly doing swim by’s, upside down, side by side and clearly showing off. They are very tame and love the attention. We stayed for 30 minutes just sat watching them. It is mesmerising. The two different characters of Little White and Little Grey can clearly be seen! Yes it’s only a big viewing window but it is a sanctuary. Well worth the entry fee.

    Belugas and puffin rescue program
Nice aquarium! Very good stop for a rainy day in the Westman Islands. Seeing the Belugas and puffins was cool. There is a nice children’s book about the puffin rescue program that is written and illustrated by the guys who work there.

    Total disappointment
I can’t believe we paid money to see some puffins behind a small glass and to see the Belugas behind an even smaller window. Don’t waste your time visiting this place. Donate money but don’t go. Not only that. Don’t book the combo boat tour if the belugas are in the sanctuary. So disappointed there are no outdoor viewing areas

    Sadly underwhelming
The sanctuary for puffins and beluga whales was disappointing. It was expensive and had very few things to look at. There was one glass tank with about 4 puffins, a few tanks of starfish and other sea creatures and then one small area to view the beluga whales behind glass. Although it was nice to watch the 2 whales from a tank, you couldn’t stay long as the window was small and others were waiting for a view. it took less than half an hour to view the whole thing. Sadly not worth the entry fee or the ferry ride over. Hopefully the money is going to a worthy cause

    Belugas and Puffins
We were pleasantly surprised by the Sea Life Trust. There was a lot of information about local wildlife. We also had the back-room tour which was extremely informative. They have a lovely puffin exhibit. The belugas are impressive!

A must see if you've made the trip on the ferry to the Vestmannaeyjar (Westman islands)
If you're lucky, the two Beluga whales will be in residence (you can check first) and you can get an eyeball to eyeball experience, albeit only through a viewing window. They also have rescued puffins that they rehabilitate for release. Not too cheap at 2200ISK per person, but well worth the money for a unique experience.

Good but hoped to see the whales in the flesh
After visiting the southern cape we drove back into town to visit the Beluga Whale Sanctuary at the Sea Life Trust Centre in the harbour. It was a good deal smaller than anticipated. There was a puffin rescue centre, a few tanks showing some of the invertebrates and fish which live nearby and then a window where we could view the two previously captive whales. It was a little disappointing that we could not see the whales from the top of their enclosure so we made the best of it by staying quite a time to view their antics. The whales were very playful, with a variety of toys at their disposal. It was a much shorter visit than expected.

Waste of money for the tour
You can see two Beluga whales from a 12x12 glass....but that is really it. Do not waste money with this tour. Instead just donation money to them.

    Puffins are fun but expensive
I enjoyed watching the belugas swim and the puffins exhibit but the rest of the center wasn't great. They are in the process of making new exhibits so maybe they'll increase exhibits. It's expensive (i know it goes to support the sanctuary) for less than an hour of viewing (and we stretched our time at the beluga and puffin tanks) I'm sure people who are really into animals would get appreciate the aquarium more than I did. If you have to see puffins up close, then go...if not, give it a skip

This is a very small place but they work hard to educate you with the limited funds they have. They mainly take care of two whales who have large free reign in the harbor and come and go as they please. I recommend this for parents with small kids who need a break from the cold and something to do. There is a small aquarium of sorts, and the whales love to “play” with kids through the glass. Donate if you can, they need the money and it’s for a good cause!

The sanctuary is much smaller and scaled down than I expected but my family and I still had a lovely time! We learned a lot about the conservation efforts being made to protect the native wildlife and saw the whales in-house. The staff was also kind enough to let us wander a bit after close since I forgot to check the open hours before arriving and we got in just a few minutes before they locked the door. Definitely a fun see when you're in the area!

Today’s boat cruise and visit to the centre was disappointing. While it was unfortunate that one of the whales was ill and both were at the centre/aquarium for care, why did we need to pay more just to go on a boat to see where they normally live when it was visible from the shore?? Interaction with the whales through the wall of the tank?definitely not what I was expecting when I planned the trip from Australia

Ripoff! (And I don’t say that lightly.)

This place does not have enough actual content on display to qualify as an attraction, much less justify its entry fee.

Roughly $55 for two adult to see a few puffins, very small aquariums, and some stuffed fish without labels.

Some rooms were empty apart from a few factoids on the wall about 2 rescued beluga whales, which weren’t available to see!

At the exit, my wife and I looked at each other incredulously saying, “No- this can’t be all there is!” But that was all there was.

If you come here, know you are making a donation much more than seeing anything of interest.

We went to the aquarium to see for ourselves. It's relatively small and the price is quite high, probably going for food for the belugas. Although the tank of these animals is larger than it seems, it is still naturally too small and not open air. The outdoor pool is currently not used according to the statement, as it needs to be renovated. Later we learned from a local that the pool is more or less new, which is also due to another reasoning that the water outside is not clean enough (open-air pool is near the port) the animals will probably NEVER enjoy life more at least in the open air. The animals probably already show aggressive tendencies towards trainers (attack) and visitors.
Maybe they had it better in Shanghai in a basin with at least daylight??
Too bad a well-intentioned idea would turn into something like this.
Time approach for the visit approx. 15 minutes

NO ACCUSATION TO THE CARERS BUT TO THE VISITORS!

A prime example of why aquariums should be banned. Everyone knows what happens in Sea Life or Sea world.
The aquarium is very small. Not even price-performance ratio right. The puffins live on a much too small area. The Belugas are doing much worse. Although there would be a real pool in the sea, despite all this, these poor animals have been sitting in a dirty pool that is far too small for years. You can tell how badly the animals are doing and that the aquarium uses them for presentation to make a lot of money!

Please do not support this sad place

We visited both the sanctuary and took the boat to see Little Grey & Little White. Initially the puffins were rather still and perhaps asleep, but having seen more of the aquarium, we returned to the puffins to see all of them walking and swimming, which was an interesting experience. The rest of the aquarium was informative, although we feel some more information labels in some of the preserved specimen cases, would have been helpful. We both enjoyed the boat trip and the weather was clear and sunny by 1pm, and the informative commentary provided by Mike, to see the puffin island and the whales. Especially seeing the ropes that we were told were used by locals to transfer their sheep, to the island for grazing. Seeing both of the Beluga whales was truly magical and made the trip for us. This experience was not cheap but worth it for its unique experience.

We purchased tickets online for the following day. According to the website, the sanctuary was open 1000-1700. When we arrived at 1515, the sanctuary was closed. A sign on the door stated different operating hours from 1100-1600. One employee was still inside and opened the door for us, informing us that the sanctuary closed early that day for a staff meeting. We were not able to use our tickets and i had some very upset children on the ferry ride back who just wanted to see a puffin.

Visiting this sea life center was important since supporting their efforts and mission is important. However, having this as a professional exhibition and aquarium, one would expect that the different interactive and digital parts would work. Also that the highlights besides the two whales would be put more effort into, such as the Puffins and its rescue center. It was a 10 min walk through of the whole visitor center and hadn’t we supported a good cause we would have felt ripped off. I hope this becomes better in the future.

High price for what is presented in it.
We saw 3 shearwaters, 1 duck and the 2 belugas. Many texts and explanations around shearwaters and beluga - Interesting. The space reserved for animals (except beluga) is small in my opinion.
