Reykjavík Highlights Walking Tour

Overview

Discover Reykjavík’s many highlights on this comprehensive walking tour. By exploring the city on foot, you’ll be able to get your bearings, and access side streets and pedestrianized areas that can’t be reached by car or bus. A guide will navigate so you won’t get lost, and highlights include Hallgrímskirkja Church, Faxaflói Bay, The Parliament House, Harpa Concert Hall, and much more.

What to Expect

The tour starts at What's On tourist information centre located on Laugavegur 5 in central Reykjavík.
We start by walking towards Hallgrímskirkja Church, a prominent landmark. We will go up the bell tower for an incredible view over the city with its multi-coloured rooftops, Faxaflói Bay with its islands and the surrounding mountains and volcanoes. Next we visit the lovely Einar Jónsson sculpture garden where we will learn the basics of Norse mythology before strolling through the quaint streets of Þingholt neighbourhood towards the City Pond.
From there we continue on into the Reykjavik City Hall we view the super-sized topographical map of Iceland and your guide will explain a little bit about Iceland’s fascinating geology and volcanic history. Our tour then threads the heart of the city, taking in the Alþingi Parliament House, our modest but beautiful cathedral and the site of the first Viking homesteads in the city. Next up is the Old Harbour, an up-and-coming city centre. Strolling along the north shore from the harbour we visit the impressive Harpa Concert Hall and Sólfarið Sculpture (Sun Voyager) before our final stop at the Volcano House where our guests will enjoy a short presentation and discounts from the store and exhibition.

Absolutely amazing. Lella is fab!

We had such a brilliant time on our tour with Lella. She is knowledgeable, funny and really friendly. We learnt loads about the vicious vikings with lots of tales and stories to keep us entertained. Not your traditional, boring tour but one with a difference.

Thank you so much Phil! You were an absolute joy to walk with and threw some very good questions my way. A tour is only as good as the people you are walking with :)
