Snæfellsnes - Journey to the Centre of the Earth
West Iceland’s beautiful Snæfellsnes Peninsula boasts towering waterfalls, rugged cliff-faces, and spectacular coastal scenery, but its remote location makes access challenging. On this tour, explore the peninsula with ease from your Reykjavik accommodation, and take in natural features including Mt. Kirkjufell and Djupalonssandur black-sand beach. Discover geological craters and lava fields, with a traditional dinner in the Icelandic countryside included.
What to Expect

Join us as we head west on a full day magical mystical tour to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula and surroundings.

Countless lunar landscapes and volcanic vistas lie in store for us as we drive west out of Reykjavik and head towards the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier.

The glacier sits atop the active stratovolcano of the same name that took centre stage in the Jules Verne sci-fi novel, ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’. You might even have spotted the ice cap glittering from across the bay in Reykjavik. The volcano is thought to house mystical powers and is considered by many to be one of the seven main energy centres of the earth, so don’t be surprised if you experience an unexplained spiritual energy flow whilst in it’s presence.

This is an area is of exceptional geological beauty – craters, lava fields (some more recent than others) idyllic, hidden coves and bizarre rock formations all lie in wait to be explored and discovered. Local legends and folk stories abound and are an essential element of this multifaceted tour. The day would not be complete without an Icelandic home-cooked early evening meal along with some local interaction - so, naturally, this is also included.

A fabulous tour that really hits the spot when it comes to observing volcanic phenomena, discovering Iceland’s dramatic coast line and experiencing a more spiritual and mystical side of Iceland.

Wonderful adventure!!

This was a truly incredible trip to the peninsula, seeing wild landscapes, beaches and mountains . All topped off with a great meal with the group in the evening. The driver was kind, incredibly knowledgable and clearly loved his country very much. Highly recommended.

Excellent tour !!

Like the previous poster, we also had Steinþór as our guide and we were on the same tour on same day (June 16). Yes its a long drive but the views are worth dying for. Our guide was patient and very humble and soft spoken....More

If you do only one thing in Iceland--do this--wildlife, gourmet food, no crowds

Our family of four (ages 58, 58, 26 and 22) agreed this was our favorite adventure of many fantastic adventures in Iceland. We had absolutely terrible weather when we got to Snaefellsnes--driving rain and gale winds so fierce that the windshield wiper got blown off...More
