Just 30 minutes from Reykjavik’s busy city center, Iceland’s volcanoes promise adventure to those willing to make the trip—and visiting with a guided tour makes the trip as easy as possible. After watching a documentary about Iceland’s most famous eruptions, head to the base of a volcano for a hike to the top, rewarded with stunning views of mossy lava fields and endless horizon. This small-group tour is limited to 12 people or fewer and includes pickup and drop-off from central Reykjavik.
What to Expect
Start by visiting the Volcano House and watch an Emmy nominated documentary about Iceland’s most famous eruptions. It is a perfect warm up for the tour. Then you are off to explore Reykjavik’s volcanoes. Just takes you 30 minutes to get there. On the drive, you will hear everything about the seismic activity underneath and what will happen in the next eruption at Reykjavik’s volcanoes.

Once there, you will enjoy the view of some places you would not see on any other tour. Hike up to a stunning viewpoint and just breathe, look and enjoy. You will like the remoteness. To be out there in just a small group is something really special.
You will see, mossy lava fields and volcanoes. Learn a bit about how the volcano systems work here. What you see is just the tip of the iceberg. You will meet black sands, hot springs and smell the sulfur in the air.

This is a small group tour – max 12 people. You will enjoy our full attention. Bring sturdy shoes and rain tight clothes. Also your exploring spirit and curiosity. Our guides know Iceland inside out so they can answer all your questions. They are always friendly and they love to show you Iceland’s breathtaking nature.

A good surprise

Our guide was interesting and treated the small group in a friendly manner helping me walk in some rocky paths. The geothermal fields are amazing with striking bubbling mud pools with sulfur steam all over.. A wonderful excursion not to be missed.

The best way to see the places that the coaches can't go.

Having had our helicopter trip cancelled due to cloud, we decided on a private 4x4 excursion. We were not disappointed. Our driver, Finn, took us over to the lava fields south west of Reykjavik. The quiet, barren wilderness was a joy to behold. Finn was...More

I think that would work well. It is about 45 to the airport, so a morning tour would end about lunchtime, giving you plenty of time to make it to the airport
