3-Day Ice Cave Tour by Jokulsaron with Glacier Hiking, the Golden Circle and the Northern Lights
From US$735.00
Overview

Visit some of Iceland’s most popular highlights with ease on this 3-day guided tour. As you drive down the Golden Circle, stop at a glacier to hike and go inside an ice cave, visit natural wonders, chase the Northern Lights, and more. This package includes accommodations, transportation, and entrance fees.

What to Expect
Join this 3-day tour for the ultimate winter adventure in Iceland, combining all the winter highlights of Iceland!

Day 1:
Journey along the south coast of the country, making stops at the renowned waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Walk behind and around,Seljalandsfoss waterfall for some fantastic photo opportunities. Delight in the walk all the way up to, and even to the top of Skógafoss waterfall. Next stop will be at the stunning, but dangerous, black beach of Reynisfjara. The surf here can be so awesome that it can easily carry people out to sea if not careful. Witness the forces of nature first hand as you admire the crashing waves on the impressive sea stacks and rows of basalt columns. From there head to Skaftafell, right next to Vatnajökull glacier. This is where you get your first encounter with this enormous glacier, by going on a short glacier hike. Following the glacier hike, you'll visit Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and the nearby Diamond Beach. Gaze at the countless icebergs floating around in the lagoon and scattered along the beach in the early evening glow before heading to your accommodation in Hotel Höfn in the nearby town. The town of Höfn is famous for its seafood, and we recommend you try the lobster (own expense). Remember to look out for the northern lights during nighttime.

Day 2:
Begin your second day with the highlight of the whole tour, a visit inside a natural glacier ice cave, inside Vatnajökull glacier. Driving in a modified super jeep, get to explore the crystal blue ice on foot for 45 minutes. Included are crampons to cross the ice, but remember to pack good, waterproof boots. After your ice cave experience, drive back along the south coast towards Vík, where you'll spend your night at either Hotel Eyjafjallajökull or Hotel Katla, both named after nearby volcanoes. You'll get a second chance to look out for the stunning but elusive northern lights.

Day 3:
On your third and last day, drive to the Golden Circle that contains Iceland's most popular attractions. First have a stop at the thundering, 'golden' waterfall Gullfoss, considered by many to be Iceland's most beautiful waterfall. Make a stop at Geysir geothermal area, where there are plenty of hot springs and mud pools to admire, as well as an erupting geyser that goes off every few minutes. Lastly there's the Þingvellir national park, a UNESCO heritage site where you'll have time to soak in the surroundings and learn about the geological and historical significance of this location. You'll return to Reykjavík late in the evening after having witnessed the best of Iceland's winter attractions.

Cause our guide Carlos stopped for aurora hunting on our way back to Reykjavík, so we arrived the city about 8:30pm, and another half an hour to dropped us off.
