Overview

Visitors from the world over flock to Iceland to catch a glimpse of the elusive northern lights. With this tour, increase your chances of seeing the spectacle when you trade in the usual plodding tour bus for an SUV specially fitted to traverse the rugged Icelandic countryside. Your guide takes your small group to hard-to-reach places in the service of helping you see the aurora borealis.

What to Expect

Meet in central Reykjavik and hop on board a "super Jeep," which seats no more than 15 and has monster tires that measure upward of 38 inches (95 centimeters) tall. Once settled in, travel out of the city in search of the northern lights.

Your guide takes stock of weather reports and other variables to find the best locations from which to view the lights. Drive along the Icelandic countryside to secluded locations buses can’t get to, including mountaintops. Listen as your guide tells you about the science behind the northern lights phenomenon, and why Iceland is one of the world’s most accessible places to see it.

Stop for photos ops if you choose. Your guide will take photos and show you how to set your camera to capture the lights. Enjoy a snack of biscuits, hot chocolate, and Icelandic liquor.

Your evening tour concludes with a drop-off back in central Reykjavik.

Not as advertised

Aurora are an unpredictable natural phenomenon. Rain and 100% cloud cover are predictable. The “Super Jeep” is a bus with big tires. It doesn’t even leave the highway. There was a regular bus and one other “Super Jeep” in the same viewing location. The location...More

Not worth the extra cost

We booked this higher cost "small group" experience since it seemed a better chance to go off the beaten track and really see the lights. What a disappointment. Save yourself money and go with lower cost option. This tour went to the same exact place...More

Shenanigans

Last night we took the so called Super Jeep tour. What a disappointment. First it advertised as being a small group experience on a vehicle that can go where lesser vehicles can go. And for only 4 times the price of the regular tour. This...More

Great Expedition Even Without Lights

After a couple of cloudy nights when the tours were canceled, our tour left on a semi-promising sky. As it turns out, the lights and sky didn't cooperate and alas! No northern lights! Despite the diasappointment, it was an adventure! Although I was leaving Iceland...More

Fantastic view of the lights

Yesterday, my sister and I took the Arctic adventure Northern Lights Jeep tour. The tour picked us up between 9:30-10PM and we had about an hour right to a remote location where there weren’t many clouds. Our guide, Ómar, was amazing! Once we got out...More
