Ice-strewn Jokulsarlon—one of Iceland’s top sights—attracts thousands of visitors every year hoping to get a close look at the glacier lagoon. The lagoon is roughly a 5-hour drive from Reykjavik and can be difficult to fit into an efficient itinerary. This tour combines a lagoon cruise with a coach tour of southern Iceland, stopping at waterfalls and scenic viewpoints on your way to visit one of the country’s natural wonders.
Board your bus at a central Reykjavik pickup point and set off on your journey towards Iceland’s southern coast.
Drive past picturesque villages, glacial rivers, and volcanic peaks. Listen while your guide shares stories about southern Iceland, and marvel at the epic landscapes of Skaftafell, a wilderness area in Vatnajökull National Park.
Stop at Skogarfoss waterfall and drive through Skeidararsandur, a vast black sand plain. See Oraefajokull—Iceland’s largest active volcano—just before you reach the lagoon.
At the lagoon, take in the expanse of water strewn with ice. During the summer (May to September), get close to the ice with an amphibian boat tour.
Hop back on board the bus for the drive back to Reykjavik to be dropped off at the departure point.
