Theo, our guide, was the highlight with his wonderful personality and knowledge of the area and the food/culture/history. We went to so many places, it was a small group so like an evening with friends, not a tour at all. We ate everything from homemade tiropita (cheese pie) to olive oil tasting with fresh bread, wine, zucchini fritters and fava dip at Tavern Tomas 1971 to a beautiful meze platter at a mom and pop grocery to a full meal of Moussaka and more at a family run tavern -- and lots more in between. Theo had so much to share about the history of this neighborhood -- right next to the Plaka, it's a place where locals actually hang out and I'd highly recommend to explore a bit outside the usual tourist places. He also recommended restaurants and the new Goulandris Museum of Contemporary Art which was INCREDIBLE. I've done a few Devour Tours and they are also excellent, and the guides have been really wonderful. I did the Ultimate Athens Food Tour as well, there' another review on Trip Advisor on that.Written 5 May 2024

- bbstx0 contributionsGreat food tour of Athens. Ask for Kris! Our guide, Kris (sp?) met us at our hotel for a walking/eating tour of Athens. OMG. What fun! We started with traditional Greek pie for breakfast. I know one was Spanikopita. The other was similar but had mushrooms and tomatoes in it. Both were delicious. I should have written down where all we went. In no particular order, we went to a Byzantine church, a place in the market area for charcuterie, then some more interesting walking and talking. About lunch, Kris took us to a restaurant for souvlaki. The way it was presented, we would call it a gyro. The restaurant had many choices. I got the lamb. YUM! After lunch we walked a bit more then stopped for Greek coffee and dessert. I think the cost for 3 of us was about $400 and it was worth every penny! Kris was knowledgeable about the food. He was a good conversationalist and gave us great insight into every day life in Greece, including his stint in the army. It was a totally enjoyable way to spend 4 hours in Athens. I would do it again!Written 1 July 2023
- LupusUK0 contributionsBest wine tour we have ever hadWe had the best wine tasting tour we have ever had. And we have done quite a few now in both europe and the us. Our guide Chantal was delightful, with perfect English, the two wineries we visited were at the opposite ends of the spectrum. We most enjoyed the first - we ended up sitting in the owners house trying seven different bottles while eating his mothers wonderful Greek food. Wine was great but the sense of occasion was what made it so special. We would strongly recommend this tour to anyone.Written 13 April 2023
- FloridaChris0 contributionsBest, best ever guides and tour.WHAT A WONDERFUL TOUR.. Xenia and Eleni and Christos, we had the best time wandering around with you, and enjoying the food, drinks and the history you gave us. We didn't know about "name day" but it will give us something else to celebrate (Christos, sorry about you and I having our name day on Christmas). Best, best tour ever and a wonderful ending with lunch and music. You all were knowledgeable, organized and just FUN.Written 7 November 2019
- Toni S0 contributionsInsightful Food TourWe enjoyed our food tour in the Plaka with Eleni. She was knowledgable, well organized and we enjoyed her company. Eleni took us to a place that specialized in traditional Greek "pies", a well established traditional "kafenion" and a "pantopolion that is owned by three former attorneys. We enjoyed each stop and were most impressed with Eleni's knowledge of Greek cuisine, culture, traditions and customs. Even though we are of Greek descent, the insight provided by Eleni and experienced by us first hand during the tour were much appreciated! We recommend this tour to all who are interested in Greek cuisine and the local food culture.Written 14 October 2019

- JRich19730 contributionsAbsolutely Fantastic! This tour was outstanding. We wanted to experience Athens by walking the city and enjoying the food, drinks and culture. Eleni was an incredible guide - providing historical context, taking us to some unbelievable restaurants and cafes, and helping us explore some of the famous historical sites. Her knowledge and love of Greece made the tour that much more impactful. I highly recommend Epiculiar, and Eleni in particular. It made a great trip even better!!Written 19 November 2018
- Trephina G0 contributionsExcellent Food TourThis was a great tour! The guide was very knowledgeable. It felt like we spent the morning with an old friend. There is no better way to experience the culture of a country than to learn about its cuisine.Written 28 October 2018
- Knyght10 contributionsA wonderful tour to hidden placesWe wanted to explore Greek food on a tour by a local. Therefore, we chose this tour. Xenia gave us a marvelous tour which exceeded our expectations. She took us to various local spots, ending up in a specialty shop called Pantoplion, which features different types of olive oils, wines, cheeses, meats, wines, beers and spirits. It was a truly wonderful experience, and the olive oil tasting was informative and eye opening. Xenia also told us facts about our hotel building and other sites in Athens which we did not know. We highly recommend taking a tour with Xenia.Written 20 October 2018
- Aimee L0 contributionsA Must Do when visiting Athens!!!Our flight arrived into Athens in the morning. I knew we needed something to keep us going for a few hours. The concierge suggested this tour. A great way to start our trip to Greece! We were met by both Xenia & Eleni for the 2 couples at our hotel. The walking tour consisted of history, culture and of course, food! They were a delight and so excited to share this experience with us. As well, they emailed us pictures they took of us enjoying the experience. We did have a 1/2 day tour planned already of the city, Acropolis museum and of course the Acropolis the following morning before we headed to Santorini. The food tour was the perfect compliment to our visit to Athens.Written 11 October 2018
- stathis1890 contributionsMore than we hoped for!We were very lucky to have the wonderful Xenia look after us in Athens. We have done many great food and cultural tours in other countries, and the 2 that we did with Epiculiar in first Athens and then Thessaloniki were the best in terms of food, cultural experience & the hosts enthusiasm and knowledge of their cities. Thank you!Written 26 August 2018

- michellelees420 contributionsGreat introduction to Greek food/coffee and culture! Our tours guides, Eleni and Xenia met me and my husband at our hotel, to start the tour. Along the way to our first stop our guide gave us some history about Greece and pointed out some of the important buildings of interest. Our first stop was at a local coffee shop, which we would have never found on our own. What a treat! Greek coffee is the best! We also sampled some sweet treats! What a great way to start our tour. We stopped at the Central Market in Athens where all the fish, meat and produce is sold. We also stopped at other local shops and everyone was very friendly. Our last stop was for lunch at a small family owned restaurant served with wine and all the Greek delicacies. We wished we had more time but we had to rush back to our hotel for a massage that we had scheduled. Time flies so don't plan anything else in case it runs a bit longer. Great tour and guides!Written 24 July 2018

I had one free day on a short business trip to Athens. I love to travel and to know the locals in their native environment, so rather than choose the typical tourist choice (e.g., 30€ for all the famous sites) I decided to do a 6-hour Epiculiar cultural tour in Athens. It was absolutely a right decision. I was the only person booked on that day, so I had a luxury private tour, through the ancient town with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable host Eleni. We went to the places I would not be able to find as a tourist; a quick history lesson re-painted my impressions on Athens and the stories she shared behind the ancient ruins still stay alive in my memory.
To make it is even better, I would appreciate the tour to be more personalised as in my case. For example at the beginning of the tour, explain what is included, what are the options, and adjust it accordingly. Good that during the tour Eleni adjusted more and more to my needs, so at the end, it was a wonderful experience which only possible through wonderful localhost! Thank you, Eleni, for everything!
