It is, of course, possible to explore the ruins of the Acropolis independently. But without an understanding of ancient Greek religion, culture, and history, it can be tough to tell exactly what you’re looking at—let alone what it all means. This guided walking tour takes the confusion out of the Acropolis and leaves you free to continue exploring once you’re done.

What to Expect

Greet your guide in Central Athens and then stroll to the Acropolis, pay your entrance fee, and head inside. Enter through the south side, stopping at the Theatre of Dionysus and the Sanctuary of Dionysus.

Inside the ancient citadel, ascend the sacred hill. Your guide will explain the names and meaning of sights like the Parthenon, with its missing marbles; the Temple of Athena Nike; the Erechtheion; and the Propylaea gateway.

At the summit, savor sweeping views of the modern city as your guide points out surrounding monuments, including Areopagus hill and the ancient agora, a meeting place that was once the beating heart of ancient Athens. The tour concludes here, leaving you free to explore at your leisure or make your own way back to your hotel.

Good tour but sold useless tickets to the Acropolis Museum

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this tour. The tour of the Acropolis itself was fine and we knew from the beginning that the tour did not include the nearby Acropolis Museum. Therefore when we checked in with the guide in the morning we paid an extra...More

The tour guide skips the line with the group tour and hands over the money all at once. She collects the money from you at the meet up location. It’s a fast process.
