Overview
The UNESCO-listed Douro Valley is famed for its port wine, but with countless wineries to choose from, exploring the region without a guide can be overwhelming. This tour ensures you'll experience the Douro Valley at its very best, by dining on Douro cuisine at a celebrated villa and tasting award-winning bottles at two estates. To see the vineyard-lined Douro River from the water, upgrade to enjoy a cruise by traditional Rabelo boat.
What to Expect
Meet a driver at your hotel in Porto for the 1.5-hour trip to the Douro Valley, pausing to stretch your legs in Peso da Régua, the capital of the Douro Valley.

Continue to Pinhão, where you'll have time to explore the beautiful village on your own, from the surrounding vineyards to the distinctive blue-and-white tile murals.

If you selected the Douro River cruise, this is where you'll board a Rabelo, a traditional cargo boat long used for Douro River transport. The hour-long ride takes you up a Tua River tributary and past Quinta da Romaneira winery, and then loops back to Pinhão.

Following your time in Pinhão, sit down to a lunch of traditional Douro cuisine paired with local wines at a valley villa, and then visit a pair of estates for tastings of award-winning ports and wines. The tour concludes with a return trip to Porto.

Wonderful full day tour

A full day should be planned for this tour. Our tour guide, Alex was very knowledgeable and explained the history of the Douro Valley and the process of wine and olive harvesting. We were picked up at our hotel in the AM right on time!...More

Amazing trip

Everything on this trip was amazing. João was our guide and you could not fault him, he was very knowledgeable and there was not one subject or question he did not have a great answer for. The man needs a raise.

Perfect Douro valley tour with great guide

We booked a private tour through the Douro valley with our family. Our guide Pedro was the best guide we could have wished for. I would really recommend him. The tastings and lunch were nice, only the boat tour was a bit crowded. But besides...More

As the tour normally starts in Porto you would have to contact the tour company and ask them if you can make a private arrangement. There are lots of companies that do this trip so a bit of research necessary.

If you leave at 20.00, you should be fine to make it to airport after the tour. However, we had someone on our tour that was dropped at the airport; we all had to agree to it since it added a bit of time to our return trip... More

I walked around the town and went for a coffee. I was nice to just sit by the water. The boat was only gone for about an hour.
