We had the option to join mass which some of us did… then went to the Valenca fort. Miguel was very engaging and ensured we knew the exact places to visit. Tiago was an excellent driver. We enjoyed our tour with Filipe as our driver and guide. He was very informative and made a point of translating into two languages for us and our fellow tourers. The bus ride does take up a chunk of time, so it was helpful that Filipe was able to make the trip interesting by explaining so many things to us. We were given time to do a nice beach walk in Costa Nova, and we were able to explore Aveiro after the canal ride.

This was a great tour out to Aveiro and Costa Nova from Porto with Paulo. Having a small group (8), was ideal for this 4.5 hour long tour. Paulo provided excellent commentary on the way there and around both small towns and escorted us to the boat which was a lovely 50 minute tour of the canals in Aveiro. Alex was our local guide - quite a funny character that also provided commentary and fun!! The small fisherman homes in Costa Nova were quaint. Enjoyable day!

The tour was a quick and hassle-free way to explore the beautiful city of Aveiro on my way from Porto to Lisbon. Despite the rain, we managed to take the Moliciero Cruise and walk through the streets and centre of Aveiro. The guide Maria was very helpful and caring, and provided adequate information on the different landmarks of the city in both Spanish and English.

Unfortunately the trip did not offer anything interesting to see. The town of Aveiro does not worth the time/money spent. Also the trip was very short when we reached to the beach were the coloured houses are located we couldn't enjoy the time there we had to rush to take few photos and run back to the van. The tour guide however was nice and provided rich historical information which made the journey feels short.

We took this tour on our last afternoon of our trip to Porto having seen all the main attractions of the city. The colourful photos and lively description made the tour sound inviting and a good option to squeeze in some final sights.
As the tour was only from 2-6pm, and as it took about an hour to get to Casa Nova, 15 minutes to get to Aveiro and an hour back, this meant the time exploring was actually very brief. We had 30 minutes to explore Casa Nova, a 40 minute boat ride and 50 minutes at Aveiro. The tour included travellers from various locations so information was given twice, first in English then French.
The information given on the tour bus was fairly basic (which roads were were taking, which trees we were seeing) and difficult to focus on due to the language switching, but credit to our guide for his enthusiasm.
Casa Nova only needed the brief stop to take photos of the seafront and grab an ice cream before heading back to the coach.
The boat ride at Aveiro was not worth the time and consisted of going up and down an industrial canal with about 5 minutes at the end going through Aveiro town proper. There was commentary on the salt industry but it was mostly tourist fluff.
The 50 minutes in Aveiro was actually 40 once factoring in walking to and from the bus, and then 35 due to the very brief introduction and signposting. Due to relaxed service we only had time to try a recommended soft egg (an acquired taste) and have a coffee, have a power walk through a few streets and then head back.
In hindsight it probably would have been nicer to visit some of the lesser known places in Porto than have spent the time travelling for little pay off - Aveiro is very small and Porto riverfront much lovelier than the canals. If you're in Porto for a long time then it's a filler activity (and perhaps a welcome relaxed day for tired feet, but it is a mix of resting on the bus/boat and clock-watching and rushing otherwise!) but don't go due to fear of missing out, and consider a trip to the national park as a day trip instead.

Greetings from Living Tours,
Thank you for taking the time to write a comment about your experience in Aveiro, giving us the opportunity to learn about your perception of the tour.
We regret that the tour did not meet your expectations.
It's a half day tour, the aim of which is to introduce to a famous city close to Oporto. Aveiro is known for the various canals that cross the city, as well as being one of the places with the most Art Nouveau buildings in Portugal. Costa Nova is worth a visit for its traditional houses, which make our guests take photos and more photos.
Our tours are usually in one language, but occasionally they can be bilingual. Our guides are prepared to give the same information in both languages without compromising the quality of the tour.
Best regards,
Living Tours Team

I don’t think I’ve ever given out a 2 before but I finished the tour feeling disappointed. We signed up for an English tour but it was a combination of Spanish and English. The guide seemed to have a preference for Spanish since he spoke that first which lead to hearing the English as we already passed by or having less time in Aveiro because we had to wait to hear the information in English. Also, he spoke at length in Spanish and would provide just a few sentences in English. I do know some Spanish and I know for a fact that he didn’t give us all the information in English that he did in Spanish. The main issue is that this tour should absolutely be longer. We had 30 minutes in Costa Nova and 30 minutes in Aveiro to explore. It was barely enough time to use the public WC, get the traditional snack, and look in a store or two. I could have easily spent an hour in Costa Nova and two hours in Aveiro. While the tour does advertise that the visits are short, I expected that they would be locations where you don’t need much time. That wasn’t the case at all. On the way back from Aveiro, the guide announced he was turning off the AC and it was an 80F day. Luckily, someone behind him eventually asked to have it turned back on because many people were uncomfortable. I think this tour has potential because it visits two nice towns and includes a boat ride, it just misses the mark because it’s so rushed.

Let's start by saying that the weather of the contracted excursion was not the best by any means, we thought that the itinerant could change for this reason.
We arrived first in Costa Nova, our guide Rafael left us to "quietly" see the colorful houses and go to the bathroom. In 30 minutes we had to be at the end of the walk, which we had to do quickly because the walk took half an hour from the The stop to the pick-up point is much longer, and if you stop to take a simple photo... you won't make it.
At the moment of getting on, our guide “leaves” two companions, it is the driver who notifies him and stops to pick up the two people who were staying in Costa Nova, our guide from oblivion does not even flinch.
After that we headed to Aveiro, I want to remember that it was raining; We got on the boat, an activity that should have been evaluated over time - air, heavy rain - the guide was saved - he was fantastic - who explained to us how he could since the storm did not allow us to see beyond the umbrellas what we could see. from the city.
With the end of the activity we asked Rafael for some free time to warm up since the rain had taken its toll on the entire group. After refusing us, he told us that he would quickly let us go to the bathroom or shop at the marked store; The moment arrives when he goes to the store to look for those of us who were there, hurrying not only me who was there, but also the saleswoman - not even 5 minutes had passed - we paid quickly and hurried to the bus .
Bus that does not arrive and places the entire group in the rain waiting, I clarify that the day had turned very ugly and the rain was heavy.
Rafael is not sure where to meet the driver and almost 20 minutes pass until we are picked up - out of shame -, we get on the bus and that is when our guide offers us water to whoever wants it - the excursion had ended -.
Finally I want to comment that the driver whose name I don't remember was driving at high speed and not giving safety to those of us who were occupying the bus, on several occasions he braked several times caused by the traffic lights and his own speed.
I will not recommend this excursion.

This was a very disappointing tour. I am usually skeptical of group tours and generally stay away from them, but I took a chance. Firstly, when I booked it I was given the impression that it would be a small group, in a mini van, in English. It turned out to be a mini bus with more than 25 people in English and Spanish. The guide had very little insight into the places we were going to and basically was there to make sure everyone got on and off the bus. Costa Nova was pleasant enough, but the gondola ride in Aveiro was a total waste of time. They make it look like you are riding in beautiful canals when in fact most of it is along a highway. We saw a salt marsh and an empty factory. The town of Aveiro is lovely and I regret not just taking the the short ride train there myself from Porto and spending the afternoon at my leisure. We only had about 30 minutes to explore it. Live and learn.

Good morning from Living Tours,
Dear Anthony,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us on your Aveiro & Costa Nova Tour. We are sorry to know that it didn’t meet your expectations.
We trained our guides regularly to ensure that you can offer all our beloved guests the best experience. We are sincerely sorry that this wasn’t your perception, and we will analyze this situation in order to take the necessary measures.
The Moliceiro cruise along the canals allows for a privileged view of the city while getting to know some of the highlights and monuments of Aveiro and we are, unfortunately, saddened to hear that it wasn’t a pleasant activity for you.
Once again, we thank you for your feedback which is very important to us and we will certainly use it to improve our services in the future!
Best regards,

What a disappointing tour. At check in, the receptionist was totally unfriendly and had an attitude when I asked if we were going in a van or a bus. Not a good start. We loved both towns but 90% of the time was in the bus. Thirty minutes in each place barely covered going to the rest room and buying one of the local treats as suggested by the tour guide. The tour was supposed to be in English but the guide spoke 2-3 times more in Spanish than in English. My daughter understands some Spanish and could tell he was not giving us the same amount of information in English. While driving back he said that it was so cold in the bus they were turning the air off. Within 15 minutes everyone was sweating and finally one man told them to turn it back on. Why would they not have just turned the temperature up a few degrees? Strangest experience we ever had on a tour and we have been on many around the world. We will NEVER use this company again.

The guide and driver were very nice but I would not recommend you take time out of your holiday to do this trip. To advertise the place as the Venice of Portugal is laughable. The only resemblance to Venice were some canal boats painted to look similar to gondolas. The boat trip was quite ugly and noisy running alongside a busy motorway and the industrial part of the city. Nothing of interest to see apart from a few cute bridges decorated with ribbons. The city was noisy and large parts closed off because it is a construction site. I’m sure it will be nice eventually but not nice to visit now and the tour company should have at least warned of the works. The stop at Costa Nova was lovely. There’s a beautiful sandy beach, sand dunes and pretty wooden houses but we only had 30 minutes there, just enough time to get an ice cream and before you knew it, it was time to drive back. With the 2 hour round trip, it feels like you are on the coach more than at the stops. Disappointing unfortunately.

Greetings from Living Tours,
Dear Cath,
Thank you for sharing your opinion with us. We are sorry to understand that your Aveiro & Costa Nova Tour didn’t correspond to your expectations entirely.
Aveiro has earned the name “Venice of Portugal” by the Portuguese since it’s the city in Portugal that most resemble Venice due to its scenic canals where you can cruise on a traditional “moliceiro” boat. We are sorry to know that this was not your perception.
Concerning the time spent at Costa Nova, we are sorry to understand that you felt like it was inadequate. We will take your opinion into consideration, and we are happy that you had the opportunity to enjoy Costa Nova, nonetheless.
We sincerely hope that you still had the chance to enjoy your tour, even though you found the boat activity less enjoyable.
Once again, we appreciate your feedback. It is very important to us to help us improve our services continually.
Kind regards,
Living Tours Team

Saludos Ricardo

What time does the your get back to Porto? We will have a plane to catch. Is their hotel pick up available?

We returned to Porto by 1:15 pm. The tour departure location is near the Bento train station. Many different bus tours start from there, within 15 minutes of designated AM start time.
I don't know if they offer hotel pickup which would be much earlier. Probably easier to catch an Uber.

Hello - we are staying in Porto for a few days before traveling on to Lisbon. However, we would really like to see Aveiro and because we do not have a lot of time, we were wondering if it would be okay to bring a couple of suitcases with us and leave the tour after the canal trip.

We are not staying in Porto. We have a car and can meet in Aveiro. Is there a tour you can offer that has the same or a similar itinerary, but does not need the time, or added expense, of a pick up in Porto.
-- We are a group of 7. We are interested in either the afternoon and July 1, or anytime on July 3rd.
