Perfect guide for the Lisbon area.
We did a driving tour with Our guide Paulo Levy. He was such a pleasure to spend the day with. It was like having a relative here that showed us around for the day. If you are interested in the Jewish history of Portugal he is very interesting and knowledgeable for this as well. We really felt submerged into the local culture and went beyond just being standard tourists.

Great Way to Spend the Day Visiting Sintra and Cascais
We spent the day with Rodrigo touring the Queluz Palace, seeing the packed, crazily busy Sintra and finishing with a stroll through beautiful Cascais. Rodrigo was personable, had a great wealth of knowledge and spoke English almost flawlessly. We started out at the Queluz Palace, which as you arrive, doesn't look like much, but once you get inside and get a look at the gardens, it's quite the place! And, they are doing a great job of slowly, meticulously, restoring it. We next traveled into Sintra, along with about 5,000 other tourists, most of whom seemed to arrive on multiple Cruise ship busses, swarming the small town! But, that wasn't Rodrigo's fault, just the nature of travel in this quasi-post pandemic travel storm! We left there, using a small, twisty, scenic backroad to Cabo da Roca, Europe's most Western point. It was much less crowded, had beautiful views of the ocean and was a nice break from the craziness of Sintra. We then headed along the coast to Cascais. What a beautiful, small beach town! We wish we would have known about this town when arranging our trip so we could have booked a room there. Lots of small shops, a beautiful square overlooking one beach and a smaller beach over by the marina. And, Rodrigo's knowledgeable commentary helped enjoy the visit more. We finally left there and embarked on Portugal's version of California's Pacific Coast Highway as we drove along the Atlantic, heading back to Lisbon, passing through Belem with commentary by Rodrigo. A perfect day, perfect weather and great guide!

          Multiple Tours
I worked with Joao to book 2 customized tours. 1 to Sintra and Cascais, another to Azietao wineries with lunch and tile factory. He was absolutely wonderful. We had 30+ people to accommodate their preferences and he was able to leave all satisfied even when the employees at Peña Palace went on strike which was supposed to be a highlight of the Sintra tour. Joao was easy to work with, quick to respond, and organized. If you have a chance to book with him, you won’t regret it!

          Fish & Tile Tour
We took this tour because my husband was interested in the fishing culture. Our guide, Paulo, was fantastic. He took us to a fortification and then to lunch, which was at a local restaurant that we would never have found on our own. The food was fantastic. We also visited the beautiful, colorful marina. After this, he took us to a tile factory and watched the artists hand paint traditional and beautiful tiles. Of course, we came home with some of these tiles. This company has great customer service. My husband lost something, and they found it and delivered it to our hotel. This tour was fantastic.

Great time in Campo de Ourique
My family and I were visiting Lisbon and wanted to have a chance to see the area thru the eyes of a native. I booked the tour with Joao and it was fantastic. He is so friendly and helpful and has so much great info to share about his neighborhood and Lisbon in general. He gave us a small tour of Campo de Ouriqu which was great to see. We had an amazing time and I would highly recommend you take one of his tours when you are in Lisbon.

Great day tour with Paolo to Sintra and the surrounding area
Paolo did a wonderful job of providing us with a tour of Sintra and the surrounding area. When a rainstorm called for a change in some of our plans, we did a driving tour of Caxcais and parts of Lisboa. He clearly has a passion for his country, its culture, and food and wine. We learned a lot and invited him to join us for lunch. In return he showed us to a great seafood restaurant, locally owned for years that had the best meal we’ve had in Lisboa. We look forward to seeing Paolo for a return visit to Lisboa or maybe Morocco.

Great Tour and Fernando is a great guide. I wish ALL my Viator Guides were this good! He even helped us call to track down lost luggage as we were driving and gave a few restaurant recommendations in Lisbon. Obidos was really interesting and Mafra was amazing! Great tour and great guide!

          Magical and Memorable
Two day tours of Sintra, Bellum, Obidos, and Batalha far exceeded our expectations. The sites not only included beautiful monuments and magnificent churches and palaces, but also adorable, quaint villages.. Our guides for these days were Paolo and John, respectively. Paolo's forte was a contagious cultural enthusiasm and pride of country, while John's was an extraordinary knowledge base of historical information. Both were extremely considerate of their clients. We highly recommend this company, specifically these two gentlemen.

Sophisticated yet comfortable local experience with LOTS to eat
João gave a wonderful overview of Portuguese cuisine! He made sure we got to try things we had not tried before and learned the seven stable items in the Portuguese menu. He explained where foods came from and how they were grown. He gave the wonderful overview of the city market in his neighborhood, Campo de Orique, and how the Mercado was redeveloped to support the changing community and become a center of local community. We walked around in an untouristed local neighborhood and indoor market trying more food than we could possibly eat and taking home desserts to enjoy later. The whole experience was comfortable and relaxed and did not involve very much walking, which was a bonus for us! He helped us identify wines, not included in the tour but available for purchase at the market to match our foods. Our guide was multilingual (Portuguese, German, Spanish, English, French and more) and knew about many parts of the world. Overall a very enjoyable experience that will leave you feeling very full and curious to try more foods the next time!

          Wonderful!
Our private tour with Paulo was outstanding!!! He tailored it to our preferences…mostly away from typical tourist attractions yet beautiful places steeped in history. His knowledge and passion for Portugal, especially with respect to our shared Jewish heritage, was amazing. We had lunch together at O Prado in Belem where he ordered for us so that we could experience a true Portuguese meal. My daughter who doesn’t eat fish ate everything..all fish and absolutely delicious. Thank you Paulo…you gave us a memory to cherish forever!!

          Loved this tour
My wife and I had a wonderful tour around Joao's neighbourhood on our food tour with him. We have done several tours over the years in groups and at times had a hard time getting the attention of the guide. This was our first private tour so we had Joao's full attention, what a treat. Some of the food tours we have done have turned into more a walking than food tour. This on the other hand was the opposite, a leisurely stroll through the neighbourhood then a sit down at the Mercado where Joao entertained us with the food history of Portugal and the Mercado and plenty of different servings of traditional dishes. We left very full and happy. Thank you Joao.

This was a brilliant day out to the Setubal wine region:l. The itinerary was perfectly planned with generous times at each winery followed by a fantastic wine tasting

Joao was extremely friendly, informative, easy-going and all over a great guide for the day.

We genuinely had a fantastic time and would happily recommend this tour to all wine lovers.

The wineries themselves were beautiful. This was a real treat.

We had a fantastic experience touring with Rodrigo, from the time he picked us up at our hotel to when we had to say goodbye. Time flew by. His conversation with us was full of humor as we learned about Portugal wine, the region, history about the country and ideas of things we might want to see or do during our remaining stay in Portugal. The two vineyards we visited were beautiful and we saw a nice contrast between a large commercial winery and a small family-owned organic winery. An added "surprise" detour was made to show us how tiles were hand painted, giving us more appreciation for this ancient craft. Our last "wine" stop was at a place where wines were available from many regions. By then, Rodrigo had learned what we liked and he expertly selected our last 5 wines to try. We enjoyed this tour so much and only wished we could have participated in additional tours with Rodrigo.

What a great day! We have a lovely experience with Rodrigo tasting at two wineries and a collective after he picked us up from our hotel in Lisbon.

Rodrigo was incredibly knowledgeable. The only part of the tour that wasn’t “private” was the first winery where you took a 40 minute group tour before tasting. Typically, I avoid these but it wasn’t too painful and the winery itself was beautiful.

I really liked the short distance in between the locations so you didn’t feel like you were in the car all day after the initial 40 minutes outside of the city.

The collective was the least visually pleasing and if the wine hadn’t been so darn good I’d have wished it would have been an experience more like the other two.

This was a fantastic value and we were grateful to have Rodrigo’s guidance! Book without hesitation!

Hello again dear Erin, and thank you very much for taking the time in writing the review. Yes, the trip between the wineries is about 10-15 minutes, in a way that you spend more time in the locations than sitting in the car. And again yes, the cooperative is the last "sexy" location, but lets us show you the "base part" of how you do wine. You got to get dirty before you make a work of art... ;-) Warmest Regards and hope to have you back soon, Joao Dickmann

We had an amazing time on this private wine tour! Our guide, Paulo, was incredibly knowledgeable about the setubal wine region and about Lisbon’s rich history. Paulo was not only knowledgeable but also so friendly, warm, and funny, and really made our tour special. He also told us all about the Jewish history of Lisbon which was an added bonus! We went to 3 amazing wineries where we had delicious wine and different snacks, and then we went to a local restaurant for lunch which was incredible. Paulo also called one of his favorite restaurants in Lisbon for us on the way back and got us a highly coveted reservation at one of his favorite local spots. This was our best meal of the trip and he really went out of his way to make sure we had a great vacation. We (myself and my fiancé) highly recommend this tour and our amazing tour guide, Paulo.

Took a tour with this company in 2021 when Paulo was our guide. He was very informative not only with regard to the Wine tasting but also in supplying information regarding each locality we visited.
He was very passionate about Portugal and all things Portuguese, he had an easy going manner and you felt comfortable in his company.
The tour/wine tasting was excellent and we also managed to partake of local pastries and a lovely lunch in a typical Portuguese restaurant.
Would highly recommend this company if you are looking for an extremely pleasant and interesting day out. Very professional.

We had a great day tasting many wines from this region, while the visit was only 3 vineyards we certainly felt that we had explored the wine from region thoroughly.

Rodrigo was quick to pick up on the styles of wine we enjoyed and able to individualise the tastings in a way that ensured we learnt something and found some new favourites.

What a suprise portugese wine is, in our week in Portugal we didn't taste a bad one.

Definitely recommend. would add that all necessary covid measures were in place and followed by this company.

Thank you so very much for your review! Lucky for us living in Portugal, we have the whole country covered in wine regions (12 on mainland Portugal). So wine, food, sun and beaches we can offer to our travelers on spades, making our job as guides, so much easier... ;-) Hope to have you back again soon, Joao Dickmann

Our guide, Rodrigo, was wonderful. He made our journey fun while providing interesting information and historical facts on Portuguese wines and the region.
As a very small group we even had time to visit a local tile maker and see an example of amazing artisans at work.
        Thank you Rodrigo!!

Interesting to be able to visit a less explored wine region. Good variety of stops and a good amount of tastings.

Pros: access to small spots you wouldn’t find on your own. Great local lunch spot. Affordable wines available for purchase and many grape varieties you don’t get anywhere else.

Cons: while this was a “private” tour, we were in our own vehicle, we were one of 4-5 other groups by the same company on the same tour, so we essentially followed each other from stop to stop. It felt rushed throughout and we were drinking rather than sipping our wines. And, unfortunately, our guide (and driver) seemed less knowledgeable about the wine so we couldn’t help but compare our experience to others, often trying to listen to the other group’s guide as they were actually sharing interesting information. It was hard not to feel a little disappointed. It would have been better to have the wineries provide the overview of the wines we were tasting than our drivers/tour guides.

Rather than spend our time in the city we decided to venture further afield and booked this private wine tour to Setubal. Communication prior to us leaving the UK was great and the day itself proved to be the same. We visited three wineries, each with it’s own distinct character and enjoyed a local lunch in the company of our equally characterful and informative guide, Paulo. An excellent choice for anyone wanting a break from the standard Lisbon tour circuit.

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
