About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jennifer H0 contributionsFantastic Tour!Alfredo was very knowledgeable about the history of ConĂmbriga. He answered my questions and provided a good understanding of the national monument’s historical significance. It is a tour I recommend to anyone interested in learning more about the history of Portugal and the Roman Empire. Fantastic!Written 9 January 2025
- Chickpea140 contributionsWonderful day of schist villages and Roman ruins!Alfredo is an amazing guide and did a fabulous job of taking me to see the schist villages in the morning and the Roman ruins in ConĂmbriga in the afternoon. I would absolutely recommend a trip with Veado Verde. Alfredo is a warm person who is obviously passionate about the area and its many beautiful features. He has a good sense of humour and is a people person! It was very easy to organise the trip with him. He was punctual and organised. Five gold stars!Written 7 January 2025
- Steingrimur G0 contributionsVery nice to walk by the river.Wonderful city with many ancient structures. And Coimbra has friendly people with fine restaurants. Very nice to walk by the river and dine.Written 12 November 2024

- E5315MTstevef0 contributionsFun and InformativeThis is a great tour. It's structured very well, starting with a spring out in the countryside and ending with the Roman city where that same water was brought via aqueduct. Alfredo is friendly and very knowledgeable, and was able to answer all our deeper questions. I know a bit about Rome and have visited other Roman sites in Portugal and elsewhere. Conimbriga is very interesting and it's definitely worth it to get a guide like Alfredo to yourself.Written 23 October 2024
- Jengeelong0 contributionsDo not miss the schist villagesWe had the most enjoyable morning exploring the schist villages with our engaging and knowledgeable guide, Alfredo. He certainly brought the whole area to life with his insightful commentary. These 'magical' villages of shale stone dwellings hidden in forested valleys have a remarkable history and should be on everyone's must visit list if in the Coimbra area. Do not miss this tour! Highly recommended.Written 18 October 2024
- gutwinski0 contributionsFun and informative tourI highly recommend this tour. Tour guide, Alfondo, was very informative, charming, and caring. He very much wanted to make sure we had a great tour. The villages were very interesting, and very much enjoyed the last village, Trasanal??? where we had a snack and cappoccinoWritten 12 October 2024
- dankW5124AQ0 contributionsDay Trip to CoimbrigaWe did this on a whim/last minute decision from Coimbra after not having tickets in time for the library. - Bu_Gede0 contributionsInsightful tour to ConĂmbrigaAlfredo was a fantastic guide - he was so knowledgeable and explained everything so well. He had a great sense of humour and took time to answer all of our questions. He also took us to a museum to contextualise our experience and we also visited the source of the aquaduct. The site was one of the best I’ve seen. Highly recommended.Written 27 September 2024

Moreover, I had the privilege of spending four hours with an insightful tour guide, Alfredo, who shared his vast knowledge of history, culture, and politics in a unique and engaging way. - Aurora M0 contributionsVery cute villages in beautiful landscape.Alfredo, the tour guide, was wonderful and the villages were very interesting and beautiful. The only thing I was a bit disappointed was that the actual villages are no longer inhabited by the original people. They are converted now to holiday vacation rentals.Written 7 June 2024

Important to me is to choose activities and companies that are environmentally responsible. This company fits that description. Taking us on backroads of past and present history gives an ecosystem and forestry perspective to 'all things Portugal'. Owner/Guide Alfredo knows every mountain track, tree, stream, ecosystem, view, village, deer, shale and stone ....he's the superhero of this forest! I was so impressed that Alfredo purchased 500 trees for reforestation... crucial for carbon sequestration to mitigate global warming.
Punctual & organized, careful with public health & general safety, but with a relaxed and calm guidance. Great pace, plenty of breaks, answers every question about the flora & fauna with a smile. Fabulous restaurant for lunch, and we even toasted to his birthday. Do this tour (or any of this company's)....you get so much for the price, and support local ecosystem advocacy.

My husband and I did the "Day with Deer" tour with Alfredo. This tour was one of the major highlights of our trip to Portugal. Alfredo picked us up near our hotel promptly at 8am. From there we headed straight to windmill-lined Lousa mountain, where our quest for deer sightings commenced. Ultimately we saw a few deer, including the somewhat more elusive roe deer.
Our trip to the mountain also included a pleasant forest hike, a visit to the famous mountainside swing, and lunch in Talasnal, one of the Schist villages. We also learned the history of the area, and got to "see it," too, by visiting an abandoned village and a few other distinctive buildings. We furthermore visited another pleasant Schist village where people still live, called Gondramaz.
Through our conversations with Alfredo, we gained a better connection with and understanding of modern and historic Portuguese culture. This tour was a great opportunity to see another side of the country, disconnected from the usual tourist track along the public transportation lines. If you like nature, animals, and a closer, quieter look at another culture's way of life, I would highly recommend this tour.

This is a great tour for people who like to get out of the city and into the mountains. We saw deer and wild boar. The scenery is spectacular, the vehicle is comfortable and the guide is knowledgeable. Was fun to go off road in the forest and walk a little. The drive to the mountain takes about 40 minutes. Remember it’s a wild area, not a zoo, so seeing the animals is not guaranteed!

Although we did see deer and the guide was very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about his job. We paid for a private tour but it was not private. There was another couple with us. The tour guide explained that it meant denying my booking, which doesn't make sense because he still made the booking available even though it had already been booked earlier. The jeep of the guide was not well kept inside, and my seat belt (left back seat) was extremely smelly and smelled of vomit. At the end of the day my neck (which the seat belt rubbed against the whole day) had a rash which lasted several days.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry the tour did not correspond to your expectations but well, it's difficult to please 100% of our clients, just 99,9% of them. About the 4x4, it's an off road vehicle and it is normal to have some external dirt, nothing more than that. No one else complained, ever. The car interior is cleaned every single day...!

We booked this trip together with our 2 kids (ages 10 and 8) and loved every second of it.
Although chances were slim, Alfredo still managed to find us quite some deer.
Going of road with his car alone was fun enough for the kids, but getting to watch a few of these beautiful animals was even better.
He also visited a few of these small villages with us.
Everything about this was great!
Highly recommended.

We loved touring the mountain backroads of Lousa with Alfredo, spotting wildlife, taking in views, and seeing Roe deer, wild boar, and a snake for good measure. My wife didn’t care much for the snake sighting, fancy that, but like me she found Alfredo friendly, engaging, informative and accommodating. He’s a passionate naturalist with eclectic interests and the right guy if you like a more contemplative outdoors experience. We also enjoyed a brief visit to one of the Schist villages. It took us back in time. Our sincere thanks and best wishes, Alfredo!

Guide Alfredo can tell about the mountains with a lot of humor and knows how to spot deer. He also has a lot to say about the 'Chist villages' in a tasteful way. Really worth it, especially if you like small scale.

Our tour started early. We saw a lot of deers. Alfredo drove us all over Mount Lousa to look for the deer. It was fogy morning so animals looked mysterious between the trees. Very pleasant morning and very much recommended trip.
