Overview
Ride over bridges, through forests, across mountain passes, and past one of the oldest cities in Switzerland on this 4-hour train ride through the Swiss Alps on the Bernina Express. From the panoramic windows in your train, see the sights of the area, including Chur, Lej Nair, Lago Bianco, Plessur River, and Poschiavo Valley. During your journey, you can stay seated or walk around to admire the views from different vantage points. Plus, a trolley is on-call to bring you drinks and snacks when needed (own expense).
What to Expect
This 4-hour train ride through the Swiss Alps on the Bernina Express starts at the St. Moritz railway station in the center of the city. Your train departs at 9:30a.m. sharp, so make sure to show up a little early to give yourself some lead time.

Get ready for a scenic train ride where you can catch sight of glaciers, mountains, gorges, and even a palm tree of two through the huge panoramic windows. Part of the train track is considered a Unesco World Heritage site, which is one of the only few train tracks to ever be considered. Plus, the train cars are air-conditioned to keep you comfortable, and a trolley comes by to offer snacks and beverages along the way (own expense).

During your trip, pass by the city of Chur, which is known as one of the oldest cities in all of Switzerland. Ride along the Plessur River, and pass two lakes, Lago Bianco and Lej Nair. Enjoy the alpine scenery on the Bernina Pass, and watch as the Mediterranean atmosphere comes into view as you reach the Poschiavo Valley.

After making it to Tirano, your train then goes back to the city you started in — St. Moritz.

My father and I took 3 scenic Swiss trains back to back over 3 days and they all could not have been more different. We took this train from St. Moritz to Tirano, Italy. This was my favourite of the 3 for scenery. The train...More

Great Trip / Great Value / Perfect Day Out

Such a comfortable day-long trip. Our guide was delightful. So educational and entertaining. The train and coach were both super comfortable (and I’m a big guy......). So much beauty. One of three best excursions you’ll ever take. Worth every penny and minute of it.

NOW THIS IS A TRAIN RIDE!!!!!!

After our slight disappointment of the Glacier express, the first leg at least of the Bernina express far surpassed our expectations and overcame the minor disappointment of the Glacier express trip. Here at last were the glacier and snow capped mountains that we had been...More
