Itinerary
When you book, choose to sit in a 1st-class carriage for more space with three seats per row, or a 2nd-class carriage with four seats per row.

Climb aboard the iconic Bernina Express at Chur, and work your way high into the hills, crossing hundreds of bridges and viaducts before you tunnel through the rock face. The terrain here is rugged yet scenic, and the panoramic train windows lend themselves to sweeping views of the alps and lakes.

Ascend the snaking Bernina Pass and hold your camera steady for the Ospizio Bernina, which marks the route’s highest spot. You’ll stop for a break in the Italian town of Tirano, so use the time to stretch your legs on a stroll around its bustling piazza and admire the surrounding snow-dusted peaks.

Reboard the Bernina Express at the agreed time for your return to Chur. You’ll arrive in the early evening.

How anyone can call this 'average' is beyond me. This is truly one of the greatest train rides on earth. If you actually look at the trip out of the panoramic windows, instead of gossipping or even playing cards, as I have seen, you will...More

You simply have to take this option when traveling from France to Italy. It is simply breathtaking. The scenery is unbelievable, especially the glaciers. I recommend sleeping over in Zurich as you can leave Zurich at 7:08 to catch the Bernina express. From Tirano, you...More
