Great location and great via ferrata course..... but TERRIBLE COMPANY AND GUIDE
Outdoor is not a company you should complete a via ferrata with, noting we did the guided Murren-Gimmelwald via ferrata with Outdoor. There were several problems, which are noted below. First of all the entire tour was rushed. We arrived, but had forgot gloves (traveling internationally and we forgot to pack in our luggage), we were rushed to start and could not enter the store to rent or buy gloves for the experience, we ended up starting over 15 minutes early. During the first ~ quarter of the experience people were split up and the order of participants changed. There was absolutely no reason for splitting up participants communicated. When you pay 169 francs per person to do an activity with your girlfriend it would be nice to actually do the activity with them instead of being separated. While descending one series of rebar steps the guide starting to pull on my leg. The guide did not say anything to me, he just started pulling on my leg. As a normal person would do, I asked him to let go of my leg, but he did not understand me (poor english), so I repeated by saying "Stop Touching Me". He Just continued pulling on my leg harder and said he'll touch anyone. It was a steep slippery section so I was being careful and slow in my movements and foot placement. It is highly unprofessional and dangerous for anyone, let alone a guide, to start pulling on your leg while descending a via ferrata. There are cases where it is plausible that for safety purposes a guide would help a participant, but the guide would talk or communicate to the participant in advance. In this scenario I was not in danger, I was just being careful... I think the guide did this to rush the tour along. The waiver process was also rushed, and Outdoor engages in unethical business practices. The liability waiver is on a different sheet from the actual signature sheet. We were rushed to sign the signature page but were never shown the actual liability waiver. After some googling I understand there have been some serious injuries on other tours / experiences by this company which makes it even worse that participants are forced to rush through the waiver and in many cases are not given a chance to even see the liability waiver. Overall the quality of the Via Ferrata tour in Murren with Outdoor Company is extremely bad. The views and location are 5/5. The Via Ferrata course itself is 5/5. However the guide was un professional and we were rushed during every step of the experience. Considering the tour costs 169 francs per person the company and guide should put more focus on professionalism and also letting participants enjoy the experience, instead of just rushing everything so the guide gets a longer lunch break.

A must do adventure in Grindelwald
If you're visiting Grindelwald and looking for an adrenaline packed adventure, the canyon swing is a must! The staff were exceptional, making sure everything was safe and enjoyable. They provided clear instructions and were incredibly supportive, which helped calm my nerves before the jump. The moment you leap off the platform is pure exhilaration, and the swing through the canyon offers breathtaking views you won’t find anywhere else. It was a thrilling experience that I will remember forever. Perfect for thrill-seekers and anyone looking to push their limits in one of the most beautiful settings in the world!

      Amazing staff.
Genuinely such a great experience. The staff were phenomenal and super friendly. They double-tripled checked all the equipment and created a really chill vibe to get you comfortable for the jump. Would recommended to anyone. The view was WOW.

Great Experience on the Via Ferrata Hike
My 14 year old son and I did the Via Ferrata hike in Murren, through Outdoor. Everything went very well, although I had been nervous about it in advance! (Not nervous about Outdoor themselves, but nervous about the heights on the hike.) Our guide Ricardo was wonderful, and kept our group of 8 tourists moving along smoothly. If you're not familiar with a Via Ferrata hike, check out some videos on YouTube - definitely a cool bucket list item!

      Exceeded (My High) Expectations
I could not talk my wife into joining me on a bungy jump, but she agreed to do this. The Canyon Swing may have been my favorite single outing in Switzerland among many 5-star experiences. First of all, credit to the folks at Outdoor Interlaken. I booked 3 activities with them and interacted with several employees. They were responsive, helpful, and usually friendly and fun on top of that. They helped me arrange my itinerary to do the Canyon Swing and Stockhorn Bungy Jump in the same day without having to rush or worry about making it. The jump itself is exhilarating. You get like a 200 foot total free fall before swinging horizontally and upwards across the canyon. A bit "terrifying" according to my wife, but she was all smiles after screaming on the way down. It was very fun, and you you'll have ample time to take in the beautiful canyon before exiting the swing. As an added bonus, you are able to tour the canyon (including the spider web over the water) at your leisure--it is very pretty and interesting. We got some great photos. The video, which we purchased, was professionally done and arrived within a couple days. ONE SUGGESTION: while I enjoyed the edited product, why not also include the complete, raw footage as well? I found the video to be worth it, though a bit pricy. I'd have liked to have had the full start-to-finish footage I could then edit myself as well.

A Definite Highlight of a Great Trip
The online pics of Stockhorn Bungy were as big a reason for our trip to Switzerland as any--I had been wanting to do this for over a year, and the experience did not disappoint. The views were spectacular, the jump itself was exhilarating, and the staff and crew were organized and on the ball. Everything ran on time and proceeded as advertised. Activities like this tend to draw fun groups of people as well, which was certainly the case with our crew of jumpers and was an added bonus. In terms of what to expect, you actually need to do a couple things. It isn't just jump, and they'll do the rest. There is a cord they'll ask you to pull to bring yourself upright at a certain point in the jump and another couple steps involved--I ended up going first and was a bit concered I would screw something up and get things off on the wrong foot. Those concerns were unwarranted (thankfully), as I simply followed the instructions that were clearly articulated and repeated. Everything went smoothly. The video/photo package is a bit pricy but professionally done, and I recommend getting it. One suggestion: in addition to the very well-done, edited video, it would be nice to simply include the raw footage in its entirety, as is done with the photo package. Love the video you put together, but why not just include all the unedited footage as well? I had a great time and could easily see myself coming back with family and/or friends.

      Amazing and Adventurous
It was my first experience and I am so proud that I did it. As a person who is scared of heights, I wanted to come out of my comfort zone and tried it. The experience was really worth it. It was scary for me at the beginning but then after the leap, I cannot express how happy and proud. You literally swing over the glacier river in between the narrow gorge. It is an experience of a lifetime. Would do it again, no matter what. The crew was really friendly and patient.

      Awesome Guide Mr Hemi!
Want to commend our Guide, Hemi, for making our family’s river rafting experience so memorable! He was clear with his instructions and he was patient with us. Hemi made us feel comfortable and assured that we were doing well even though we were such amateurs! His cheerful demeanour lighten the fears of river rafting! He even remembered all our names! Thank you Hemi!!

      Jet boating birthday treat!
Brilliant trip out on the Brienzersee with Chris as our pilot. Weather was making this Great Lake choppy so added to the experience. Having been on jet boats on New Zealand rivers and off shore in Dorset we had high expectations which came to fruition!! A complete mixture of ages and nationality all shared an adventure with a great deal of laughter and shrills!! A history of the area around the lake mixed with high speed, weaving on a choppy lake with doughnuts thrown in, not the editable type 😂, all added to what was my wife’s idea of her birthday treat, fantastic choice!! Had to communicate with the team a few times which was easy and very clear. Impressive all round so an awesome afternoon out for sure. Thank you kindly for making my wife and my day very memorable. Senior citizen’s perspective
I will start this review by saying my 40 year old son absolutely loved this tour. He would go canyoning again. In our group of 10, I’m sure I’m the only one asking myself what the heck was I thinking. Rave reviews from all the other participants. The remainder of the review is from the perspective of a 64 year old in okay shape without much upper body or leg strength .This was a challenge from the get go from putting on the wet suit, to hiking up the hill to get to the start point until the final haul up a rope and steps to meet the van. We started with an easy rappel which with bad footing, I managed to slam the canyon wall and have a bruise to show for it. From there there were 3 jumps, one required standing in the middle of rushing water. Overall jumping from heights isn’t an issue - I’ve done 35 & 40 ft jumps from rocks. However, jumping Superman style did spook me. Other challenges were flume shoots which I enjoyed. Standing up after a jump or other feat was difficult. It was hard to get my footing. I owe a lot to my son and several young men in our group who watched out for me. Without them, it would have been impossible for me to do the course. Interestingly I won the “ cold” war as my group were all from Texas and were cold. Coming from Maine, the water temperature never bothered me. We had 3 guides assisting. Very competent, very clear directions and demonstrations but very direct. Just because I was a senior, I was expected to carry-on like the 20 year olds. In other words “suck it up buttercup”. There were times they told me to stand up 3-4 times. I remember saying I’m trying my best”. Can’t believe I kept myself from swearing at them. LOL. Personally I think a more encouraging tone would have been nice. I am beyond proud of myself for finishing. I’m still undecided if I should have done it. My left hand has a very nasty bruise - don’t even remember how it happened. Hope this helps you decide if this is the right experience for you. I don’t have pictures. They take video which you can buy or they post a few pictures you can grab from the website.

      No personal camera😒
Beautiful experience with a very professional and friendly team. The only downside is that they didn't allow me to use my Insta360 to capture the jump. I purchased this action camera specifically for these moments and was not allowed to use it. The video+photo package is definitely too expensive (100 CHF). We ended up purchasing the photos (49 CHF per person) thinking we could use our camera... such a shame!

At the age of 50+ I went canyoning for the first time with my 23 year old son. Our guides Martina and Steph were incredible. Their number one priority was assuring the safety of all of the guests at all times while still making sure that everyone was having a great time. I was absolutely terrified to do the 150 foot repel. I didn’t think I could do it but Martina took her time to encourage me and assured me that I would be safe. With her help I was able to do the repel and complete the rest of the course. It was amazing!!You should definitely be in fairly good shape to do this activity as it is physically and mentally challenging. Expect a few bumps and bruises but that is no surprise with this type of activity. It was an epic experience and one that we we always remember.

Don’t book with Travel Advisor. to go right to the supplier. TA lost my all my activities on their web site and I couldn’t cancel/reschedule things without calling the actual supplier. totally pain in the butt. But outdoor.ch is a great trip organizer and well worth the money. Especially canyoneering in Grimsel Canyon

My dad (58) and I (20) absolutely loved this experience!! My dad is also afraid of heights but still really enjoyed it despite his anxiousness at the beginning. I wouldn’t say my dad and I are in our prime fitness-wise, but this was so doable because there were short breaks between the slides, jumps, climbing. etc. since the other group members were going. Our guides Ian and Heath were wonderful! They do so much by helping everyone go through the canyon and carrying all the rope and other equipment. They definitely deserve a raise for their great work Lol! The lunch was ask very good. The take videos of everyone at all the cool parts and a picture of you and your group if you aren’t traveling alone, which can be purchase before or after for 40 CHF. Overall 11/10 experience!! I definitely recommend.

We were a group of Explorer Scouts and adults. The instruction we got was fabulous. The activity challenges your brain to go for it when it’s saying no, but that’s what makes it brilliant. The instructors helped us through it all very safely. We all had a great time and were very well looked after

We had so much fun on this trip with our college and high school aged kids!! I was worried about being cold, but the wet suits and jackets did the trick and I felt great. It was challenging and a little scary in parts but I’m so glad I did it and didn’t leave the fun just for my kids. The guides were great! There was adventure and challenge through out the entire canyon! Come already dressed in your bathing suit and pack dry clothes to change into!

We spent "America Day" on July 4th doing the Grimsel Canyoning trip with Iain and Tim. It was me (49), my husband (53) and 20 year old twin sons and this was certainly a highlight of our 9 days touring Switzerland. My husband and I were clearly the oldest in the group by probably 20 years (but I then learned a 72 year young woman did this course so figured i could handle it). First off, I booked the darn trip and was completely terrified (but in a good way). Rappelling? Jumping off boulders into a canyon? Zip line? My heart was pounding for most of the trip but Iain and Tim did a fabulous job giving me the confidence to get through this course. I never once felt unsafe and on a few of the jumps was given an option of a more "safer" (read "less scary") way down. These guys are top notch and although this was booked as an adventure for our 20 year old sons I am SO THANKFUL I didn't chicken out and did this course. Anyone with decent balance, basic agility/flexibility, and no fear of water or heights can do this! Take the plunge, I'm so glad I did!

Nice one! You said it all in that last sentence... and even if you do have a fear of water/heights... you can start out with the beginner canyoning trip "Canyoning Interlaken", and the guides will help you through! Thanks for the great review, happy to read the family had an awesome time!

This was the second activity we did with Outdoor Interlaken on our trip – the first being whitewater rafting. For those (like us) who may have done other Outdoor Interlaken trips, or who read my review of White Water Rafting (Lütschine) (posted Jan 28, 2018), there are some important differences in how one might best prepare. They will still pick you up at the hotel, and fit you for a wet suit/gear at their base, but you won’t put it on at their base. It means you should probably pack a little differently. I suggest you wear your swimsuit under your clothes, and take a towel and anything else you’ll need with you in a small bag. They will transport your cold-water gear in one of their bags, which you will change into near the activity. The embarkation point is about an hour away from their base, into the mountains at some elevation, so it’s likely you’ll experience some weather change. At a minimum it will get cooler, perhaps much cooler (as happened in our case), and it may be less sunny, or even overcast or misty (also true for us).

These are important details which I did not read about or see anywhere ahead of time. (Note: These differences DO NOT apply to Canyoning Interlaken, which we did a few years ago. That canyoning trip is closer to their base, so you will change at the base both before and after that trip). Fortunately, we were semi-prepared, but knowing this would have helped us be even better prepared. You will change into your gear about a half-mile from the starting point, at a road-side area. You’ll be out in the open. Don’t expect much privacy, or benches, tables or chairs to put things on. You get out of the van, find your bag with all your gear, and change. Find a spot somewhere nearby, and get started. Put aside your concerns about the other people who came with you, or the occasional car driving by. If you didn’t prepare like we did, wearing the stuff you want to wear (swimsuits) under your wet suits under your pants and shirts, you’re going to have to do it all there. And you better get used to it, because you’re going to change here afterwards as well, in the open, only this time you probably need to strip down all the way to get out of your wet stuff and change into the dry stuff you (hopefully) brought for this purpose, including underwear, unless you want to sit in cold wet stuff for the entire hour-long trip back to base.

I recommend you pack a day bag with this dry stuff (i.e. underwear), and also pack a quick dry (microfiber) towel for drying off afterwards (which we were so glad we did), and before changing into your dry things. Expect it to be a little chilly. We were reasonably well prepared except we did not know we’d be doing all the changing at the side of the road. It’s a small price to pay for a once-in-a-lifetime experience – in fact it’s probably one in and of itself!

Now for the activity itself. Expect the water to be cold. You’ll be mostly protected by your gear, but you will feel it. Your face and head are going to get wet. Water will make its way into your suit. Your hands will get cold. Blow on them to warm them up. It’s not that bad.

You start with a bang – rappelling down a canyon wall several hundred feet to the river below. If you’ve rappelled even a little bit before you’ll be fine. Or, you may look at it and say, “Wow! I’m not sure I’m ready for that.” Summon your inner adventurer and just do it. It will be OK. The guides will do most of the work here, letting you down. You’ll mostly be responsible for walking down the wall. It looks much worse than it is, other than you know there is a big empty space underneath you.

You do need to be reasonably coordinated, semi-athletic, with appropriate arm and leg strength, and balance. You’ll be clambering over rocks, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing and jumping. But it’s not that difficult if you’re reasonably athletic, and it is something you’ll remember forever. Our group consisted of mostly 20 and early 30-somethings, but don’t let that put you off if you are older than that. We are old enough to be their parents, but are in good shape, exercise regularly, and we did fine.

You’ll probably find a few places where you need to just commit to doing whatever you need to do – climb, jump, etc. None of it is really that bad, though if you are afraid of heights or subject to fear of the uncertain, you might want to take a pass on this trip. One of the young ladies on our trip, which had been booked by her fiancé without her knowledge, was afraid of heights. Imagine her surprise when greeted first thing with the rappelling. She was eventually persuaded to try, and the guides did a great job helping her, but it wasn’t the most pleasant experience for her for a while there. She made it, and afterwards was glad she went – or so she said.

There is one optional jump which is pretty tricky. The climb up is more strenuous, the jump point (“platform”) pretty small, and the view past the rocks below you to the water below looks a little intimidating. About half of our group said they wanted to try, and about half of those opted out after getting to the jump point and looking down. A few of us did it (not my wife). You just have to say to yourself “It’s going to be great - I’m jumping.”

After you’re done, you’ll change out of your wet gear, and if you’ve prepared as I suggested, you can dry off and get into your dry clothes. If you are more modest, having a partner hold something up to shield you is handy. Then you’ll eat a lunch of veggie and cheese sandwiches (which tasted great), plus a beverage, including beer if you wish, then you’ll have an hour-plus drive back to the base. You can buy pictures and one guide will be shooting video. You can buy an edited video which contains overall highlights of the activity, and clips of you. Ours was about 8 minutes long, and totally worth it.

Note: For those with Go-Pro or other action cameras, you CAN bring and use them. You need to use a helmet (not chest or other) mount, and there are probably helmets with them on, left behind by previous patrons, but you may not want to bank on that, or that the helmet you find with one will be the proper size, so bring a sticky helmet mount with you, which, if you use, will be left for the benefit of some future intrepid adventurer.

The pictures are grabbed from the video we purchased from Outdoor Interlaken of our trip, so they are of us and our trip - not staged.

Had an amazing canyoning experience, would highly recommend this! The guide was excellent, he sought out the best canyon for us and helped us navigate the canyon.
