About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 163bradw0 contributionsGreat arancini-making experienceThis experience was a lot of fun. We spent three hours with Paolo and Francesca learning how to make arancini, and then having a leisurely lunch with our creations and a carafe of wine, followed by cannolis and limoncello. A great way to spend an afternoon. Paolo and Francesca made the experience very entertaining as well as informative.Written 18 March 2025
- Karen D0 contributionsAwesome and fun! This was a fantastic time. I felt like I really got a Sicilian cultural experience. The Chefs were helpful, and warm and my friends and I really enjoyed it. Lots of laughter and great food Worth it!Written 4 March 2025
- sophiaciot0 contributionsAwesome cooking class!Had the best time with Paolo! Chef kiss to the whole experience n to the basically bottomless wine that was included in the experience :) In between the drinks n the enormous quantity of food we made, we spent the whole time rolling on our bellies out of laughter (n fullness)Written 17 November 2024
- hamsterproductions0 contributions14 hours notice that the trip was cancelled.Cancelled 4pm the night before the trip because they didn’t have enough people. This would have been known to them well in advance of the point they cancelled. Give people more warning so they can make other plans! This was supposed to be the highlight of our trip and given more notice we could have booked elsewhere.Written 15 November 2024
- Voyage530985725540 contributionsTaster of SicilyTook 2 tours with SAT Group, one to Mount Etna & the other a day trip to Siracusa. Thanks to Elizabeth & Alexandra for providing lots of info as our tour guides. Both were very knowledgeable. Coach drivers Angelo & Alfio were very careful drivers making us feel safe & secure, especially when navigating hair pin bends en route to collection points in Taormina! Both trips enjoyable & memorable. Thanks!Written 22 October 2024
- MikeB88180 contributionsMt Etna & Alcantara Gorge trip pretty amazingGetting into a double decker tour bus and travelling through the narrow country lanes on the lower slopes of Etna is an adventure unto itself! The Alcantara Gorge was our first drop off. The water was frigid, yet refreshing. The twisted rock structures Then we boarded a wee train for an hour-long trip through some amazing lava flows and farmlands. After that, we jumped back on the bus and wound our way up the eastern slopes of Etna to the tourist hub (restaurants, shops, etc). Our journey continued with a cable car ride further up the mountain, where we jumped on a 4WD bus thing which took us up a dusty track to around 3000 metres. We finished with a trek around a recent spatter cone to look at a pretty impressive lava flow. This was an excellent trip with a multi-lingual guide and a range of different and amazing experiences. Highly recommended!Written 20 October 2024
- Jill W0 contributionsGreat Day with Great Sights! The tour was very good. Whilst the other island was quaint, it was Stromboli, which was an experience that I will never forget. The people that live on this constantly erupting volcano are interesting. Get on the boat and go around the other side of the volcano and see an impressive sight red fire plumes, noise and constant change, amazing. Time in each venue was long enough lots of travel on this tour but worthy of the time to get there. Alexandria, our guide was very good and kept everyone informed even though the group contained a variety of nationalities and languages. SEE organised a trip that works, expect a long tiring dayWritten 18 October 2024
- 411jennyp0 contributionsJust focus on one place please! This was a very long day, but we knew that before we went, as the information provided was very clear. The tour company also collected us near our hotel which was very helpful. However, what was not helpful was that the tour guides for this particular tour did not seem as fluent in English as they evidently were in other languages. The trip was marred by this as a consequence. We had very limited information during the tour round the temples and really very little time to see the ruins properly and do it justice. There were other aspects of the site that we just didn’t get to see or find out about. Given the length of the trip and the cost, it would have been better if we had was visited only one place giving us a decent amount of time to see the whole site. The piazza armerina mosaics were lovely but we would have preferred to just spend time at the valley of the temples.Written 18 October 2024
- 761lessw0 contributionsArancino makingWe had a great time learning how to make arancino. Great restaurant, great chef and great company. We learnt the tricks of the trade and came away with more arancini than we could eat. We even went back the next day for lunch. Definitely recommend this experience!Written 2 October 2024
- TriciaQ1866050 contributionsSAT TourBus arrived on time. Arrived at location but because of numbers were divided in two groups. Did not find either guide to be very informative and felt tour was too rushed. Lost our guide as she walked off without putting up her umbrella could not find her. Second guide was hopeless. Time alone in the town was fun we went off and did our own thing. You could easily do this tour cheaper on your own !!Written 30 September 2024
- bethcJ7580VC0 contributionsFustrating holiday tripThis was a very frustrating day. The 60 minute journey from Giardini-Naxos was doubled due to extended pick ups that were not advertised. Arriving late out your guide encouraged not to go to the top of the Etna (2900 m) due to queues as we were behind schedule. We we had already paid the full amount of €110 each BUT the tour guide was unable refund us. As a consequence to get our refund after the horrendous trip we had to remain on the bus, travel to travel company head office where our refund was reluctantly processed. Finally we incurred an extra €30 taxi to get home. We understand that nature can change but organisation shouldn’t.Written 14 September 2024
- lhaganmich0 contributionsLong Day from Taormina but worth seeing! Ruins and mosaics are well preserved! The Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana del Casale are defintely worth seeing. The guide explained most of the mosaics prior to getting to the villa. As for the valley of the temples, she did briefly explain each temple/monument. This is a LONG day. What I didn't like... the food at the lunch stop was terrible. By far the worst meal we had in sicily. Also the guide failed to point allow for bathroom stops and the bus didn't have a functional bathroom. After the last stop, we traveled over 3 hours to get back to Taormina (without a bathroom break). We did get stuck in traffic but the guide said that the "traffic is always bad." If it is warm out, bring an extra set of clothes to change in. There is not much shade at the valley of templesWritten 12 September 2024
- kaykristiana0 contributionsA fantastic Sicilian experienceOne of our favorite days on our entire European Summer holiday! Market tour for ingredients and then cooking for a bit and then eating and laughing for more fun! Chef was amazing and gave each and every guest attention, instruction and sheer joy! Highly, highly recommend this Sicilian afternoon!Written 20 August 2024
- B4113VQneilg0 contributionsWine tasting tripGreat trip all round ...from the gorge , Radazzo food tasting but especially the wine tasting ...very informative host, she explained all the processing and family history around the making etc.... Lovely day......(Renatta was an excellent guide).Written 18 August 2024
- Mare320 contributionsWorth visiting & thanks to our guide and driverGreat tour thanks to our driver Angelo and our experienced guide Lisbet ! We have done many tours with SAT GROUP and have never been disappointed : easy booking process, pick-up possibility at several places around Taormina, Giardini, Recanati. The program is respected, they are very punctual. During the trip we get a lot of practical information in several languages. Once arrived, our guide gives the detailed planning and let the guests decide if they join the group or go solo. Just be back in time, that's all. We recommend to stay with the group because Lisbet is an expert and takes time to answer questions and to give information you won't find in any book or brochure. Thanks, SAT GROUP, Angelo & Lisbet !Written 17 August 2024

I planned a Pizza workshop for my friends, group of 6 and we had the best time ever!! We learned in a fun way how to make real italian pasta and real pizza dough. Each one was able to create his own pizza and put it in the oven. At the end we had a table full of our pizzas and pasta. In between we had bread, wine, coffee and even canoli for dessert.
We kept the aprons and left the restaurant with a huge smile.
The whole team, including the kitchen staff gave us a warm welcome, the instructions were clear, the food was simply amazing. Thank you team Porta Messina for a fun morning

Such a wonderful family experience!
We booked as rain was forecast but had so much fun. The only reason I can’t give it a 5/5 is that the restuarant was absolutely packed and the staff seemed a little overwhelmed e.g. they kept insisting that our group sit at a table to eat that clearly had too few seats. This resulted in a few people having to sit outside apart from the group which was definetly not ideal.

Great couple of hours taking part in Italian cooking! See as it was during Covid-19, my partner and I were the only participants. We were greeted by Luca and offered coffee while they prepared the kitchen for us. We helped make bread, learnt how to make macaroni and of course, pizza! we had 2 breaks - and at each, we ate what we made and had a litre of house wine! The macaroni was made into '"pasta alla norma'' and it was my favourite dish of the course. They even emailed us the recipes after. I highly recommend doing this class, it's a cool way to experience with locals.

We arrived at 10:15 at Porta Messinai Pizzeria right on the junction. Luca the host gave a great welcome and provided a drink some strawberries, cherries and biscotti. We were given an apron which was a souvenir to be taken away. We then made some bread. Whilst that was baking we made macaroni. Once the bread was done we sat and ate that with some cheese , salami etc with a drink ( wine ,soft drinks). We made pizza dough and then made the pizzas from previously proved dough and placed them in the ovens. We then sat and had our pizzas s, the macaroni, and cannoli . we were given more drinks and lenoncello and coffee if we wanted it!! An enjoyable few hours. Thanks to Luca and his team and to Kim, Petr , Laura and Erik who were on the same course

Giovanni was an amazing teacher, his English was very good and he just loves food. He also taught us pasta making and bread making, which we never expect. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

The class itself was lots of fun. We loved making, and eating, our pizzas and would recommend. The problem was the poor- no, non-existent- communication. We started contacting Viator via the information listed 3 months early asking if we could do it this tour via cruise ship. No response to multiple requests. So we finally booked it a few days before hoping then we could get through. No response. We finally got information from the cruise ship indicating that the Porta Messina where we meet it not the same as the Porta Messina where we dock so tried to cancel but by then it was too late. Sooo, we went for it anyway. We got off the ship at 9:30 am, walked to the train station and bought a ticket for Taormina, after the 1 hour train ride (17 E) we took a taxi to the meeting point (15 E) turned on our phone (10 E) and called- finally receiving an answer that the restaurant Porta Messina was right there at the arch. We walked in at 11:40, having missed the pasta making but in plenty of time for the pizza class. Had a great time and an adventure to boot so a good day.

I'm very interested in booking this class. We're arriving on a cruise ship that morning (docking at 09:00). What is the best way to get to the Porta Messina Arch (or is it close to the cruise terminal)?
Thank you for your guidance!

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
