Syracuse Day Trip from Taormina
From US$52.29
Overview
Syracuse was once one of the ancient world’s largest cities. Dive right into the city’s historic allure on this tour from Taormina, spending a day visiting archaeological sites and Ortygia, the island-neighborhood also known as Città Vecchia. Travel with a guide to learn more about the city’s millennia-old history than you would while visiting on your own, and return to Taormina in time for dinner.
What to Expect
Your morning starts with a pickup in central Taormina by air-conditioned coach. After the roughly 1.5-hour ride along the coast to Syracuse, make your first stop at the Parco Archeologico della Neapolis (entry fee at own expense), one of Sicily’s greatest archeological sites. You’ll explore the vast collection of Roman and Greek ruins, and the well-preserved Roman amphitheater and Greek theater. Head past a secluded garden to the limestone cave known as the Ear of Dionysius.

Next head to Syracuse’s island-neighborhood of Ortygia, where you’ll stop for lunch (own expense). You’ll have enough time to visit the Fountain of Aretusa in Piazza Archimede and admire the Gothic palaces nearby. See Piazza del Duomo, the Syracuse Cathedral, the Palace of Beneventano del Bosco, and the Archbishops Palace.

After a day of sightseeing, make the journey back to Taormina and get dropped off at your original departure point.

A good way of getting a taste of Syracuse

We wanted to visit Syracuse from Taormina but public transport is very difficult so this was ideal. The tour was perhaps too rushed for anyone with walking difficulties. We didnt have long enough in Ortygia and had little time for a very late lunch but...More

Dear Roseannafromoz, not all visitors like to drive and park the car when on holiday, besides that, a local guide would be a high cost for only two people, so our organization offers the possibility of visiting Sicily with competitive prices and forgetting the car,...More
