The islands of Murano and Burano, with their artisan glass and lace workshops, are just a ferry ride from Venice, and visitors won’t want to miss either. On this tour, delve into the practice and history of two of Venice’s great artisan traditions by visiting glassblowers in Murano and traditional lace-making workshops in lesser-known Burano. Get an authentic look at Italian traditions that have lasted for centuries with a guide.

What to Expect

Meet your guide in central Venice for a short boat ride to Murano. Visit a local glassblower and watch the artisan at work, learning tricks of the trade, such as how minerals add color to glass sculptures. Afterward, take some time to explore the picturesque island of Murano and visit other workshops in the area.

Hop on board the boat for a ride to nearby Burano, home of traditional lace-making workshops. Listen as your guide tells you the history of Burano lace, and watch local craftswomen weave and stitch finely detailed lace in the local tradition. If you’d like, visit Burano Lace Museum and enjoy free time to explore the island and its local shops.

Finish your tour with transport back to the departure point.

Good half day tour

We started with a Murano art gallery. First, they take you through the whole process of making glass items which is very good to know and then it's the complete gallery to see the magnificent glassware that'll keep you hooked. But it's all too expensive...More

It's OK for a few hours

We are a family of 5 with teenagers so keeping them engaged is key! This was OK, it's not thrill seeking by any means but it's worth a trip. We stomped our way through the streets of Venice and met up on the canal with...More

Great to visit but do it yourself

I looked at this tour before leaving home and decided against it. We still visited Murano and Burano, but on our own. It is much cheaper to catch the waterbus across and wander around the islands by yourself. We had a tour of the glass...More

I don’t think we got much more than an expensive boat around the islands and time to roam. We left around 2pm, got back at 6:30pm, and spent 1.5 hours on a stuffy boat with a roof that was incredibly hot. In theory the extra...More

Murano and Burano

We had a very enjoyable day on this tour. Our guide Elisa was very personable and informative. The slow boat ride was nice on the way to Murano and then on to Burano. The glass blowing demonstration was exciting to watch but it was very...More

Around 4 1/2 hours. You have 1 hour in Murano with a tour of the glass factory, then the trip over to Burano is about 45 mins and you get 1 1/2 hours there. We left at 11am and we’re back by the Basilica by 3:30. Hope that... More
