Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Small-Group Walking Tour
From US$79.41
Save time at Rome’s popular catacombs and crypts with skip-the-line access on this half-day guided walking tour. You’ll combine visits to numerous, fascinating highlights including the Basilica of San Clemente, the Domitilla Catacomb, the Capuchin Crypt, and Appian Way. Listen to your guide share insightful commentary on these ancient sites and provide context to understand historic Christian worship sites and burial customs.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and group at Piazza Barberini in central Rome. Head to Capuchin Crypt while your guide tells you about ancient Rome. At the crypt museum, see one of Caravaggio’s famous paintings, St. Francis in Meditation. Hear about the crypt’s unusual chapels made entirely out of human bones.

Heading toward Appian Way, listen to commentary about the road’s history, including the hundreds of miles of underground space beneath it that were used as burial grounds and secret worship spots for persecuted Christians. Skip the long lines at this popular attraction, saving valuable vacation time.

You’ll skip the line again at Basilica of San Clemente, comprised of three 12th-century structures built on top of each other. Listen as your guide explains the history of the Renaissance-era mosaics and frescoes before leaving you on your own to explore further if you wish.

Hopefully you will still visit the Basilica of San Clemente. That was the best part of the tour, in my opinion. The history of Rome is just mind boggling! Have a great trip! Sue

There is a bit of walking at slow pace. Uneven surfaces. Once you get in to the Arena you can sit down.
