Overview
El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen boast iconic features and complex histories, but visiting both on a self-led trip can be difficult. Tour the palatial and monastic complex of El Escorial, visit the imposing civil war memorial in the Valley of the Fallen, and gain insight into their significance from a professional guide. Travel with ease to these sites northeast of the capital via air-conditioned coach, with hotel pickup included.
What to Expect

Begin with pickup from your Madrid hotel by air-conditioned vehicle. On the drive out to Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, listen as your guide shares insights into the historic landmark. On arrival, admire the wall paintings in the Pantheon de los Reyes, tour the monastery facade and visit the Gothic basilica of San Lorenzo el Real.

Next, head to the Valle de los Caídos, or Valley of the Fallen, located in a preserved national park. Learn about the site’s controversial history and explore the monumental memorial’s crypt and basilica, before taking in spectacular views of the valley and the 150 meter cross itself.

Return to your vehicle and relax on your journey back, as the tour concludes with drop-off in central Madrid.

Terrible Experience All Around

First, these are two incredible sites well worth a visit (don’t miss the royal pantheon!). For simplicity sake, a tour is probably the right approach. That being said, this tour is a waste. While the guide was friendly and somewhat informative, the tour is simply...More

This Sight is Well-Worth Your Time; The Trapsatour Day Tour is Not

We had an extremely disappointing tour of El Escorial, Palace of Phillip II and one of the major historical sights in Spain. Nowhere in the booking information was there an indication that this was a tour in English and Spanish. Since we were the only...More
