Montserrat Monastery and Horseback Riding Premium Small-Group Tour from Barcelona
From US$103.41
Overview
Make the most of a trip to Montserrat by combining a monastery tour with a horseback ride on this small-group tour from Barcelona, all without having to arrange your own transport. See the monastery’s highlights and learn about its history before descending by cable car and trekking on horseback through the mountain-framed countryside. Admission, transport, and horse ride are included, so you can simply enjoy the history and scenery.
What to Expect
Meet your guide in central Barcelona and settle inside a climate-controlled vehicle destined for Montserrat, a Benedictine monastery located on Montserrat mountain.

En route, admire the mountain’s needle-shaped peaks and hear how the monastery, founded in the 10th century, still functions with more than 150 monks. Hear, too, about its revered La Moreneta (little dark one), a wooden carving of the Virgin Mary that draws flocks of pilgrims.

On arrival, see the abbey’s highlights, including the basilica and its statue, and learn about their history. Then, enjoy a scenic cable car ride down the mountain to visit an equestrian center in the Montserrat foothills.

Here, set off behind a guide on a countryside horseback ride. Soak in the stunning mountain scenery as you cross fields and woods, and ride at a pace suitable for all skill levels.

Your trip then finishes at the original Barcelona starting point.

Great way to see the beautiful Montserrat countryside

I booked this tour through AirBnB and apart from some minor organisational hiccups, the tour went great! Our guide who picked us up from Barcelona was Flavio, who was friendly and knowledgeable. We then went to Juan's ranch to meet his beautiful horses, and even...More

Flávio is the MAN

After running to meet the group to avoid being late, Flávio briefed us on what to expect on our trip and gave us a ton of history as we drove to Montserrat. He was courteous, friendly, patient, and knew a ton of history which really...More

There were food stalls just outside the Montserrat monastery when we did the tour, selling cheese and local sweets, good enough for a snack.

I don't know what the weather is like in September but Montserrat was colder and bit windier than the city center when we went there in April.
