Montserrat Monastery Tour from Barcelona Including Cog-Wheel Train Ride with bilingual guide
The mountaintop monastery of Montserrat is notoriously difficult to reach. Eliminate the hassle of coordinating times between trains and cable cars on a stress-free tour from Barcelona. In addition to a guided tour of Benedictine Santa Maria de Montserrat monastery, one of Spain’s most important pilgrimage sites, ascend Montserrat mountain in a cogwheel train that affords spectacular views. Plus, all entrance fees are included.
What to Expect

After convening at a central meeting point in Barcelona, board an air-conditioned coach bus destined for Montserrat, home to one of Spain’s most prestigious pilgrimage sites.

On reaching the foot of the mountain, hop on a cogwheel train, and learn about the effect that hundreds of years of erosion have had on the mountain. On arrival at the Benedictine abbey at the mountain’s summit, take a guided tour and admire La Moreneta, otherwise known as Our Lady of Montserrat.

After free time to explore the monastery grounds independently, return to your original Barcelona departure point by coach.

Rushed and Rude

Our tour guide, Carla, was rude to ethnic families. It was a bilingual tour, yet most of the tour was conducted in Spanish. The majority of the group (28/30) were English speaking. We spent a ridiculous amount of time in the museum/gift shop discussing timeline...More

We booked with Julia Travel, and met there. Bus ride about 1 hour to reach the cog railway for our trip to the top to the Monestary. Great guide. Very knowlegable. Bus ride back to Barcelona city centre.

We enjoyed our half-day coach tour to Monserrat, although the audio was not working & we could not attract the attention of the tour guide to tell her! She was very helpful when we arrived at Monserrat. Awaiting the cog-wheel train the guide filled us...More

Not worth the time or money

While it was nice to get a bus to the mountain, you would be better to take the train from Barcelona to have time to enjoy the area. The cog wheel is a scenic ride IF you are on the right side of the train...More

We booked this with Viator and went with Julia Travel - the stunning views on the coach and train ride are worth the trip on their own. The monastery is beautiful and we were very fortunate not to have to queue too long to see...More
