Overview
The monuments and alpine scenery of Salzburg's UNESCO World Heritage Site lie just over the border from Munich in Bavaria. This tour ensures you maximize your time with round-trip transport by train, a guided walking tour of the city, and plenty of free time for shopping and sightseeing.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and up to 15 people at Munich’s Central Train Station. Then travel aboard an air-conditioned train, enjoying views of the Bavarian Alps and Austrian countryside on a 2-hour journey to Salzburg.

On a 1.5-hour walking tour, listen to your guide’s comprehensive introduction to the city. Discover Old Town, a UNESCO-listed site; admire historic landmarks, such as the Domkirche Cathedral and the Hohensalzburg Fortress (Festung Hohensalzburg); and learn more about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was born in Salzburg, and The Sound of Music, which was filmed in and around the city.

After the tour, spend around three hours exploring independently. Stroll around Old Town’s medieval lanes and browse the shops for souvenirs, sample traditional Austrian cuisine with lunch at a local restaurant (own expense), visit Mirabell Palace, or climb the hilltop to take in the views from the castle.

Your tour ends back at the Munich train station.

Good day trip at a great price

This tour began with a train ride to Salzburg. Once in Salzburg, we got good information on the major highlights from our guide who took us on a 1.5 hour walking tour. Then we had a few hours on our own. We ate at the...More

We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy the experience. In Iain's defence, the difficult situation he had to deal with that day - such as a crowded train and a very busy Salzburg - was not his fault. He is an excellent guide,...More

Sorry, this tour is not wheelchair friendly at all unfortunately. Salzburg has lots of stairs.

When we did it - everything was included. We met at the meeting spot in train station and the guide handled all the tix. To be safe I’d maybe ask the tour company. I don’t want to misquote you.
