Along the way our guide Maxine stopped at all the important places to show us both on her tablet & local knowledge all places of interest. Genuinely interested in her clients. We had almost 3 hours of free time so I went up the funicular rail to the castle & spent a very pleasant hour just wandering & enjoying the views. Great for photography. Then back to the old town visited the beautiful cathedral & got some chocolates & traditional biscuits. We walked around one large building many times! Our guide was obviously passionate about the subject but it didn’t really do it for us! Although sold as a walking tour there was an enormous amount of standing around and in 0° that was very cold. We wouldn’t do it again UnfortunatelyWritten 11 December 2024

We went on the tour with our wonderful guides, Aileen and Anna. At arrival, we were split into two groups and assigned a specific tour guide (we were assigned Anna). Anna is very knowledgeable and personable and we greatly enjoyed having her as our guide. The overall tour was well organized and enjoyable.
Once we got on the bus, our guides gave us some time to get settled and wake up before providing information on Munich, Bavaria, Kind Ludwig, Neuschwanstein, and a variety of other interesting subjects. It was informative and engaging.
Once arriving at the town of Fussen, you have some time for eating, exploring, and other activities. We arrived a little ahead of schedule and had additional time to relax and explore. After this time, you meet again with your guide to go up to the castle. You haver the option of walking, riding a bus, or riding in a horse-drawn carriage (the latter you have to pay for). I highly recommended having good walking shoes for this trip.
Once you arrive at the castle, you again have some time to explore the grounds, take photos, see the Marienbrucke, and more. You are given your ticket for admission at this time and it includes your admission time. Your Radius Tour guide will not accompany you into the castle, as Neuschwanstein provides the guides for the actual castle tour. The tours are separated by language, and so our collective group had multiple castle entry times (2:30 pm, 2:35 pm).
Be advised: the actual tour of the castle is given by a Neuschwanstein Castle guide and is only ~30-35 minutes. You are not permitted to take photos in the castle and you will be called out by castle staff if you try to take photos.
The trip back to Munich is pleasant. Our guides offered a nice mix of engagement and rest, having a small trivia game and then allowing the group to rest.
Overall, my husband and I had a really great experience on this tour and would gladly do another tour with Radius Tours, especially with Anna and Aileen. I also personally appreciated that both our guides repeatedly referenced our bus driver and expressed appreciation for him and his role in our trip. Unfortunately, I do not remember his name, though he was a wonderful driver and we had a safe and uneventful trip to and from Munich.
Definitely bring:
Good Walking Shoes
Camera
Rain Jacket/Umbrella (if expecting wet weather)

Had an amazing trip to Neuschwanstein with Radius. For some reason a large group never turned up, meaning that we had a small group of 7. Our guide was super friendly and very knowledgeable about both the castle and about King Ludwig II. I think we had a unicorn of a day with beautiful weather but also low, off-season crowds, making the day even better. There is a little free time for exploring the village and getting some food or souvenirs too. It's worth noting that there is a hike up to the castle if you've got any conditions that might be affected by this. The actual castle tour itself felt a little rushed, but still very much worth the extra €15. I would definitely recommend this tour in future. Thanks for the awesome day! 💙💙💙

Nicola, thank for the review in these hard times. Seeing Neuschwanstein when there is less people there must have been truly crazy I am sure :) Very happy you had a great time on our tour!

Werner was a great tour guide - from the beginning of our bus ride to the castle to the ride home, he shared history and tips for places to see in Munich. Area around castle is touristy, but would recommend walking along the lake to escape the crowds. The castle is very impressive and Worth the visit

Just giving my honest opinion!
I booked this tour to the castle. The group met in the morning and the tour guide got us to the attraction by the local train
That took us about 3 hours.
Then we reached our destination and the guide left us in a local restaurant for an hour that was really expensive and not part of the tour.
After that we had to walk for about an hour until we reach the castle. We had frequent stops in which the guide was telling us stories regarding the castle rooms and the king. That was interesting but I am not sure why the stories were not told in the 3 hour train ride or in the 1 hour stop to the restaurant.
We had to do it under the rain.
Then around 1500 we got into the castle and we had to be back by 1600 so we can get our bus to the city.
I stayed in the castle for about 15 minutes and then I rushed down the hill in about 30 minutes while it was raining so I don’t miss the group.
This experience was appalling and I would not recommend to anyone

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that your Neuschwanstein experience did not live up to your expecations. We hope you will let us explain. The guide will usually not explain too much of the history in the castle, so that guests can just enjoy the scenery. It is still a public train, and we try to respect the other travels/commuters this way. Much of the story and history comes more to life when are there is a visual aspect to the story being told.
It sounds like you had poor luck with the weather, which is a real pity...
Due to the shortened winter open hours and restricted capacity at the castle due to COVID, we only receive very limited entrance tickets at an entrance time later than normal, so we try to make the best out of these current difficult circumstances to still provide the best experience to our guests possible.
We hope that we are provided with another opportunity to change your 2 star to a 5 star review in the future.
Wishing you continued safe travels...

We travelled to Neuschwanstein Castle on 7th Aug with tour guide Charlie. Overall excellent experience as this was our first trip with our 14 month old. We were bit concerned about how we would manage with the pram but I would strongly recommend young parents to take this trip. Our guide Charlie was quite engaging and give us the historical context in a simplified manner as well as ensured to provide full transparency on situations. Particularly sensitive of our 14 month old in a stroller, Charlie gave us specific recommendation to ensure we make the most out of the tour and also was supportive to handle logistics. Thanks to Radius tours and Charlie for a nice day that we had!

Ara, thank you so much for you review and it is great to hear that you had an amazing time with our guide Charlie at the Castle of Neuschwanstein! Surely it is not easy travelling with a 14 month old, but glad that Charlie made it happen. Which 14 months old can say they already been to the "real" Disney castle? :)

Jeff was nice and shared some interesting stories, however, we would not recommend this trip.
We felt it was poor value for money as what you get for your money is a guide directing you to the castle and back, with approximately 15 minutes in total of information.
The trip entails you to use public transport. Because our group consisted of 25 people, we couldn’t all fit on the train, so had a 40 minute wait on the platform for the next one. We had to take 2 trains and a bus to the location. You may as well just plan the journey yourself.
Because we set off late, we also felt rushed. When you get off the second train there is a lovely town that could have been explored and Jeff could have shared the history of the area as we were travelling through it.
The castle itself was well worth the 17euro.

We very much apologize for the situation you encounterd on our tour to Neuschwanstein on Saturday. There had been some bigger issues on the rail tracks which lead to a series of events which then lead up to the unpleasant journey. I am sorry that this was not the experience you had hoped for.
Thanks for your understanding.

The meeting point was difficult to find, strongly recommend they review the current online description. Otherwise it was a lovely trip, our guide Mat was perfect, knowledgeable, had good humor and didn’t over talk like those guides that keep on going the whole 9 hours ( our trip was that long). We all met infront of the travel agent then walked to the train station, stopped for a quick coffee. Took the 2 hour train ride where Mat did his spiel since we were not all ( 19 in the group) sitting together he stopped and chatted and informed each group about the destination and gave fun facts. When we arrived at Fussen, took a 10 minute private bus ride then did the hike uphill ( 45 minutes) to the castle where Mat was with us patiently stopped for others to catch up and also have us more information about the site. And also showed us great locations for taking photos of the castle. We had a different tour guide inside the castle which was also a good one. All in all it was a lovely trip, fantastic October weather, sunshine, no rain, awesome guide and money well spent.

This was our second tour with Radius during our stay in Munich. We really enjoyed our first tour to Salzburg and had positive expectations for this tour. Our guide Dani was cheerful and friendly. Knowing it would be a long journey (approx. 2hrs) by coach bus, Dani pointed out the station staff washroom to anyone who needed it which was very thoughtful.
The journey to Hohenschwangau was smooth and comfortable, with some light traffic when getting out Munich city centre and on arrival. Dani shared some interesting information about Neuschwanstein as well as Bavaria on the way. On arrival, she gave us maps, briefed us on the meeting times / points, alternative options to get to/from the Castle (hike / bus / horse carriages), and interesting points on the way (a doughnut stand!). As long as we stuck to the meeting times / points, we could hike up to the Castle at our own pace.
We felt that the theme of the tour was ‘suspense’ – Dani was a really good storyteller, and split the story of King Ludwig II in a way that left us hanging when she paused (to be continued at the next meeting point) !
The doughnuts recommended by Dani were freshly made and delicious!
Overall, we had a fantastic experience! There are two departures during the summer season: 09:30 and 10:30. We chose the 10:30 departure and felt that time there was a bit short. We would recommend the 09:30 departure.

Radius tours is a fantastic tour company. We were out on a wrong s Bahn and they sent the bus out to pick us up. That was fantastic. Our guide Dan was super knowledgeable and made the tour so amazing. He entertained us with stories and history of the castle, the Bavarian region and King Ludwig II. He took care of us and at the end of the tour....took us to get on the correct train. We invited him to join us for dinner and he entertained us more stories and filled us with culture! Dan was amazing! I recommend Radius tours for any type of excursion

Lana was our tour guide for the day. This is a 10 hour tour, which includes 4 hours on a bus (to and from) and 6 hours of sightseeing and the tour itself.
Once we arrived at the area of the castle via the charter bus included in the tour price, we had 1 hour to eat lunch in the small village, plenty of options there for various budgets.
After lunch, the tour began officially with a 1.5 hour guided tour up to the castle filled with interesting facts and stories about Ludwig II and the castle he built. Very beautiful hike up with some nice views.
Once at the castle, the tour is temporarily handed over to the official castle tour, which includes a guided tour of the castle inside. This tour is short but insightful for those interested in the time period.
Following the castle tour, we were received our own time to explore the area outside the castle before heading back to the city
Be prepared to walk and climb stairs. If mobility is a concern, there are other options to reach the castle from the village via carriage or bus, but you will miss out on much of the tour this way.
If rain is forecasted, BRING AN UMBRELLA. Rain jacket is not enough, the walk up or down to/from the castle is at least 20 min

You do not buy the tickets in advance. When you arrive at the tour office to begin the day you will purchase the tickets. The tickets are timed entry slots, so you must have the same time as your group and your guide.

I’m looking at other tours of the castle and they are 30-45
minutes. What does this tour do for 5 hours?

The tour meeting point is in Munich, and it is about a two hour train/bus ride there and back. So the tour includes transportation. We also got lunch at the cute little town beneath the hill of the castle.

Ma siamo sicuri che una volta arrivati al castello riesco a prendere i biglietti? O rischio di fare il tour e non entrare! Vorrei delle info grazie!

Hey I am trying to find a way to enter castle without getting in long line. + Having guide always helps.
Problem is I am travelling in car and I don't begin from Munchen, I will arrive Fussen in the morning of the tour.
Would it be possible to join the tour at site, not from Munchen? OK to give up train/coach fee......

Hello, I am wondering that if we should wear a mask to attend the tour or not? Does the mask must be FFP2 if a mask is necessary?
Written 3 April 2023

In the description of what to expect, there is a mention that the castle admission can be paid directly to the tour company. What forms of payment are accepted? Credit card?
