- 1The Paris CatacombsStop: 60 minutes - Admission includedBy the 17th century, the cemeteries in Paris were overflowing. And so, the solution became to place the corpses' remains in the tunnels that existed beneath the streets of Paris since the 13th century. Originally, the French Catacombs were mines or ossuaries for extracting the limestone that built Paris. As the city expanded, it eventually covered areas with mines underneath. Sound like bad planning? That's because it was not planned at all. Many of these mines were abandoned and undocumented. The solution to bury the dead underground fixed more than simply the lack of cemetery space. The estimated six million dead bodies actually reinforced the mines.Read more

- X86DRsandram0 contributionsGreat Bike tour!Thibault was an amazing guide and super nice. He explained everything in detail and was very charming. The bikes were a lot of fun! We were able to bike along the grounds and cover a lot since it's too much to walk. You get an hour in town prior to the bike tour to check everything out and it is simply lovely and filled with so much amazing food at the farmers market. The bikes come with rain jackets in case it rains as well. You get plenty of time afterwards to tour the castle with the times entry which is a great way to avoid waiting in line.Written 18 March 2024

- elliea123450 contributionsMust See Versailles with a Guide! Ours was FantasticOur guide was fantastic! You could see her passion for the subject and we learned so much about French history and the random but intriguing details to be found throughout Versailles. I’m truly a believer that having a guide makes visiting places like this more enjoyable - and that’s 100% the case here! I am terrible with names but our guide was a woman from Tunisia and truly cannot give her enough praise. Note: You don’t get to see much of the gardens on this particular tour, but they give you the opportunity to stay and just not take the bus back. It was only like 5 euros and a pretty quick and easy metro ride back, so we were okay with this fact and chose to explore the gardens and the Trianon’s after.Written 12 March 2024

We booked in January when the cancellation policy was a "cancel for any reason". Our tour was cancelled because of COVID and we were told to "fill out a credit request". We were told it would be addressed 7 days before tour was scheduled because they were overwhelmed. Now we have been emailed saying they have changed their refund policy. I didn't realize you could change your refund policy AFTER I booked!
I am filing a complaint with the BBB and credit card company for my $451. I realize everyone has suffered through this crisis, but the shady way it was handled was unacceptable.

We are sorry to be letting our customers down in this situation. The pandemic has hit our sector hard and fast.We would also like to apologize for the timeline inconsistencies regarding the resolution of your cancelation request. We have severely under-estimated the length of time that we would be hindered by this pandemic.
It has forced us to reach down into some of the fine print in our terms and conditions that we hoped would never see the light of day. We’ve updated our policy to the credit voucher system for future guests - which is becoming an industry standard. There will be no surprises if a pandemic or force majeure situation of this size arises again as our policy is now uniform with our response.
We deserve the 1-star review in this situation. We regret that we were not able to show you why our tours are consistently rated 5-Stars. We understand you are unhappy with credits but we are still hoping to make it up to you on your next trip. We are great at tours and terrible at pandemics.

The meeting spot was very easy to find. The tour guy took us over right away, maybe 20 in the group. First thing is a spiral staircase about 5 stories down. I am a bit claustrophobic and was worried but once you are down there it’s fine! Ceilings are low. I am 5’1, no issues. We were guided through tunnels with brief explanations about the history, which was fascinating. We got to go to 2 VIP parts not open to public. Guide was very informative and entertaining. Tour was about 2 hours. Stair climb back up wasn’t to fun 😁. Overall this was a great experience. I would however suggest a guided tour as opposed to self guided. The Tour Guy is also a great company to use for other tours as well! We did the Louvre Closing Tour with them!

Thank you for sharing your experience! The meeting spot was easily located, and the group was promptly guided through intriguing tunnels, including exclusive VIP areas. While the spiral staircase might concern claustrophobic individuals, it turned out manageable, especially with ceilings accommodating various heights. The guide's informative and entertaining commentary added to the experience.
The tour's duration of about 2 hours was engaging, although the stair climb back up might not have been the highlight! Your recommendation for a guided tour over a self-guided one is appreciated. We're thrilled you had a great experience and also enjoyed our Louvre Closing Tour. We hope to welcome you back for more enriching adventures with The Tour Guy!

We booked our tour through The Tour Guy due to the reviews of the tour from this company. We also decided that we did not want to stand in a 3 hr line. This tour allows you to skip the line and get into the catacombs with a tour guide.
Our guide was Leo. She was very friendly, accommodating and informative. She genuinely loves sharing stories about the catacombs and it’s history. Thank you to Leo and The Tour Guy company for this awesome tour!

Well worth a visit, and had no problems with the Tour Guy. Would very much recommend booking a tour as the poor people standing in line for hours sweating in 35 degrees would attest ! Gabriella was our guide, and was great.... especially when "non booked" people tried to bribe and join !
Well worth it.

This was one of the main tours I was looking forward to.
I booked with another tour group and they canceled on me less than 24 hours of my tour.
So then I booked with THIS TOUR!! And I have to say everything happens for a reason because the tour was great, Leo was so informative she had good humor and she made sure she answered all our questions. And she always made sure our group stuck together and that we got all the pictures we wanted to take. I had so much fun on the tour!! I say forget all the other Catacombs Tours THIS IS THE ONE TO BOOK WITH!! Thank you Leo for making this tour better than expected.

The only way to really see and understand the Catacombs is with a skip the line tour, Our guide met us ( the group was about 15 people) and then took us down the many steps. NO waiting - the line is usually 2 hours. She outlined the history of the underground, the city walls and finally the reburial and catacombs. The space is vast and no creepy. The bones are artfully arranged and in a respectful manner. Many more steps up. but definitely a highlight of the entire trip.

We loved the tour given by Leo. Leo is one of the region’s prominent “cataphiles”. She brings a wealth of information on Paris, the under ground excavations, and the history of the catacombs.
She knows every twist and turn, ably pointing out on skulls the evidence of wars, famines, and medical procedures (I.e. trepanations).
She adds meat to the tour by sharing stories of ghosts, lost catacomb dwellers, and how the catacombs were meant to keep Parisians safe in case of war.
Finally, the implicit mutual respect between Leo and the catacomb staff confirms that Leo isn’t just giving you a tour, she is inviting you in her playground.
We highly recommend. Our party included 2 adults and kids 12 and 14

Bonjour Stephane! Merci for your review. That's wonderful that you got the opportunity to see the Catacombs with a "cataphile!" They know the most information about these areas. That Catacombs definitely are a hit for all ages! We hope to welcome you back to Paris soon!

I booked a tour of the Catacombs with The Tour Guy. Week days later I received a cancellation notice. Managed to speak with them few days later. Was told they had not got the tickets they had anticipated, i.e. they are selling inventory they do not have. I received the refund two weeks later but had to eat up the card fees and exchange rate differential. Bigger issue is you are trying to plan around a tight schedule, and finding a replacement on a specific time slot is proving to be impossible.
