What to expect
  • Connect with your guide at Paris’s Dupleix Métro station in the morning, and together hop on a Versailles-bound train with included round-trip tickets. After arrival in the famous leafy suburbs, pick up your rental bike and helmet and pedal to a renowned market for French picnic provisions (own expense). Bike through some of the town’s more than 2,000 acres of tree-lined paths to reach the Queen’s Hamlet, a private rural retreat built for Marie Antoinette. See the replica farm where the queen once frolicked as a faux shepherdess, as well as her Trianon and Petite Trianon residences. Take a break for a picnic in the sprawling, elaborately manicured gardens of Versailles near the end of the Grand Canal, where you can enjoy fantastic views of ponds, fountains, and statuary. In the afternoon, skip the lines with reserved entry to the UNESCO-listed chateau, and begin with a behind-the-scenes tour of King Louis XIV’s apartments, including a section that is not open to the general public. Afterward, explore other areas of the opulent palace at your leisure, including the resplendent Hall of Mirrors, Marie Antoinette’s bedrooms, and other royal apartments. Walk in blue-blooded footsteps on a stroll through the formal gardens before reconnecting with your guide for the return train ride to Paris, where the 8- to 9-hour tour concludes in the early evening back at the Métro station.

Good tour of Versailles
Sep 2019
Well done. Good guide. Met in Paris. They get you on the train. Then you have return ticket to return on your own time to whichever station you wish. Private tour of part of Versailles; then you can stay and tour as late as you like. Good value and they make it easy.

Amazing story-telling brought Versailles to life
Kudos to Nick. What an amazing, interesting and engaging story teller with great knowledge and humour. He kept our diverse group engaged for 8 hours and alive on our bike trip - weaving through the streets of the town and Chateau. Exceptional value for money - he really earned every Euro and by the end of the day we felt we had spent the day with a friend. Ask for Nick to avoid disappointment.

Magical Day at Versailles
Jul 2019 • Family
My family of five (ages 11-58) went on the VIP bike tour to Versailles. It was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Paris. Our guide was Eddie and he was fabulous. He was careful, fun, funny, attentive, and so knowledgeable about history that there was not one question he was asked he couldn’t respond to in depth. His story telling was entertaining as well and there are a couple of stories he told about Louis XVI that still make me chuckle. The itinerary with gathering picnic food and then touring the outlying areas of Versailles (ie, the Hamlet), before eating lunch, was brilliant. We were almost alone walking the paths, and biking along the canal and felt transported back in time. Eddie was a great guide and the day was memorable for the entire family. I would also recommend the VIP aspect to see the additional apartments within Versailles— a much better feel for the palace, and less crowded and crazy than the public areas.

Perfect day highlighted by tour guide
Jul 2019 • Couples
After 100+degrees heat days we were so very lucky to catch a beautiful mid 80s and sunshine day. Our tour guides, Eddie, was entertaining and provided energetic historical perspective. He was the highlight of the day!
The lunch along the canal was perfect with a light breeze and fun stories.
Best part of day was riding and historical highlights by Eddie.
The VIP tour of kings apartments was a snooze. By the time we arrived, nearly everyone was ready to just see the highlights. The Versailles tour guide was lackluster in comparison but knowledgeable. It was a good tour but I would suggest skipping the apartment tour and just do the palace unless your a huge Louis history buff.

Amazing! A must do as a family
This was recommended by a friend and was amazing and I would say a MUST DO! Our kids are 8&10 and they would not have enjoyed an entire day in Versaille without this tour. We stopped at an amazing little market where Elia our tour guide introduced us to the locals. We picked up our lunch and went for a ride around the grounds. The first time we came without kids it was way too massive to walk and see it all. We stopped for lunch and heard some history of Versaille and The French Revolution. We saw Marie Antoinette’s hamlet and farm and the kids loved the animals and seeing the gardens. Once inside the kids palace it was quite busy but we skipped the line. I would say this is on the list of definite things to do and worth every penny.

Fat Tires Bike Tour is the way to go!
We highly recommend this tour! Short train ride from Paris and then biking around the gardens of Versailles was so much fun. We even had a relaxing picnic by the lake. This is a definite must do in Paris and definitely go with Fat Tire Bike Tours!

Disappointing but still interesting
Jun 2019 • Family
We've taken several Fat Tire Tours and this one was disappointing. The meeting spot was crowded with several other tours and we ended up with folks who were not supposed to be in our group. We had to wait while that all got sorted out and then we had other folks that signed up but didn't know what to expect and they wanted to split their group. That ended up with our group waiting again. It was very frustrating and I cannot understand why, with as long as Fat Tire has been doing this, they don't have a better system.

The tour itself was okay but they could have used 2 guides since it was a big group. I think our tour guide did her best but she really hadn't been in Paris all that long and wasn't as informative as I had hoped.

After we had ridden the bikes and seen the gardens we had to then go back to the Fat Tire Office to put up the bikes and walk back to the Palace. For a VIP tour and pricing I thought this wasn't worth the money.

Jack was Great!
Mar 2019 • Family
My family and I loved this day! Our guide Jack was incredibly knowledgeable and an excellent steward of our herd of bikes! We didn't realize it until we got back, but he skillfully navigated our group through literally every part of Versailles! We got to see everything and got an engaging history lesson and a small workout to boot! I would recommend this trip to anyone.

Fat Tire Bike Tour is the way to see Versailles!
Oct 2018 • Couples
Fat Tire Bike Tours is really well-organized and our visit to Versailles demonstrated how well they know what their doing. Our group gathered in Paris, was briefed on the day, and then hopped on the train for the 35-minute trip.

Nick, our guide, was excellent. He expertly guided us through the day, providing excellent recommendations at the market before we shopped for our lunch, and throughout the bike tour, he provided us with what could be best described as an insider's look at Versailles. The pace of the bike tour was perfect, and. while we lunched along the Grand Canal, Nick continued with the tour.

If you have the time, the Fat Tire Bike tour is the way to experience these expansive grounds. And the skip the line tickets are a must - the lines at Versailles are very, very long. We had 3:30 p.m. tickets and got right in.

In the future, I'll always look for Fat Tire Bike Tours - they are a top-notch organization.
