About
We don't believe in "cookie-cutter" travel experiences and neither should you! We provide the most personalized and unique experience possible, meaning every tour we give is never the same. With the exception of a few must-try foods, the rest is built around what you're curious about tasting. In addition to our tiny group sizes, you will be led by an incredibly knowledgeable guide. Did you know baguettes are some of the worst bread in France and you should be asking for something else? Did you know there are seasons for cheese? Would you like to have someone walk you through the regions of French wine? Our guides can do this because they are food professionals - former chefs, food writers, and wine experts - not a student who has memorized a script. We have selected only the highest quality shops to showcase some of the best France has to offer. Come hungry as portion sizes are generous!

The tour lasts approximately 3 hours with visits to artisanal shops for a combination of on-site sampling as well as a blowout tasting of cheese, charcuterie, and wine in a wine cellar. As we are walking, we'll point out a few historical landmarks including the Grosse Cloche - one of the most recognized monuments of Bordeaux.

We are so glad we took this tour. Our tour guide Diane was personable and knowledgeable, and we could tell she really wanted to make this tour memorable for us. This tour combined Diane's knowledge of food, (Diane is a former food writer) with her passion for the Bourdeaux region and the food shops that we visited offered a uniquely Bordeaux experience. By asking us about some of our favorite tastes and foods Diane curated a tour that left a lasting impression for us. The walk through the city was both picture perfect and leisurely. If you are looking for a way to experience the foods of Bordeaux and the city itself, with a guide who made you feel like a friend, please do yourself a favor and take the Bourdeaux in Bites tour.

Alex was an excellent guide, taking us to lesser-known venues for bread, pastries, meats, cheeses, and wine. All was excellent and way better than what we would have found on our own. Alex also told us about the history of the food and the city and showed perseverance through nasty, rainy, and windy weather.

When we visit a city for the first time, the first thing we look for now is a food and wine walking tour. It's a good way to get to orientate yourself in a new place, and to discover local food and wine places you'd never find otherwise, benefitting from the knowledge of the local guides. We've done similar tours in Florence and Verona and really enjoyed them, so we were very happy to find Bordeaux in Bites. The format of the tour is slightly different from other tours we've done but just as enjoyable, if not more so. In other tours, we've sampled produce in each venue and then moved on to the next one. With Bordeaux in Bites, we visited and collected produce from artisan stores before sampling it all at the final location, an amazing cheese shop, where the owner paired the cold cuts and cheeses we'd selected with wines and beers (we couldn't eat all of the produce at lunch and went away with a doggy bag containing enough for another lunch the next day).
Highly recommended; you'll learn about the gastronimic history of the city and get to taste some amazing bread, wine, cold cuts, cheeses, not forgetting the canelé and coffee. Our guide was Diane, the founder of Bordeaux in Bites, and we had a great time. Thanks Diane! We will go back to Bordeaux again, and I wouldn't be surprised if we do the tour again - we really enjoyed it, and there were so many tempting things we didn't get to try first time...

We had a delightful time on this tour with Alexandre. He had an excellent grasp of the city’s history, and an impressive understanding of both food and wine. The tour focused on wine and the tasty food (bread, meat and cheese) that pair well with the wines he selected. I felt we had MORE than enough food and did not go hungry. The only thing that I might add is some fruit since it felt a little heavy on cheese and bread and it would have been nice to have a fresh counterbalance. We also loved the wine bar where you eventually pause for the last hour of the trip. The trip is a little pricey compared to some others, but for 3.5 hours and the amount of food and drink we had, I would say it was worth it.

9 July 2024 ... already over a month ago now, but we still often think back to the amazing culinary walking tour through Bordeaux which Alexandra planned for us.

What an enthusiastic, polite, modest and knowledgeable (food)guide Alexandra is!! The combination of delicious original authentic French products, a very friendly American couple and thus Alexandra made it an unforgettable afternoon for my wife and me.

We visited a real "boulangerie", "boucherie" and "fromagerie". The owners of these stores were as enthusiastic about their shop/products as Alexandra is. Out of respect I've one advise: don't touch their products! We were allowed to choose delicious authentic French products (included in the price of the tour) which we consumed at the end of the walk in a very cosy wine bar. Of course, we also made a stop at the ‘Grosse Cloche’ where we enjoyed the one and only classic and vanilla cannelés.

Alexandra (and of course also Danuta and Peter!) thank you very much for your enthusiasm, expertise and friendliness. You gave us an unforgettable afternoon. Writing this review, makes my mouth water again!

It was extremely educational and the pace was just right for those who enjoy nice walks with historical snacks along the way. We finished at a very cute wine bar where we all ended up staying to hang out a bit more. I lived in the middle of the city so it was fulfilling to realise that a lot of what was inside Bordeaux were historical and that I didn’t have to go so far to learn about it. Alexandre was extremely knowledgeable and it was nice chat with a local as I was traveling by myself and don't know a lot about french culture.

We had a wonderful time in Bordeaux. Alex was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable of both the history and wine/food scene. He took us to many places around the old city where we bought pastries, breads, and meats that we learned to pair with various wines. A unique and fun learning experience of Bordeaux culture.

Bordeaux in Bites. Alex-- on met us on time. Our tour guide Alex had a long background in the food industry, & was very knowledgeable about the area. Talked about the history of the the streets we walked and the history of some of the food, like canele' which we sampled, along with crossiant, and baguette, and pastries. Stopped for cheeses, then to wine cave to enjoy the parings. He was well prepared with everything in his nap sac including cutting boards, knives, two color napkins, & hand sanitized. Great experience, all the tastings and wines were very good, highly recommended.

I am committed foodie who has done tours in many cities the world over, and I can say without hesitation that the Bordeaux in Bites tour is among the best I have experienced. My guide Alexandre was deeply knowledgeable about the history of bread, cheese, charcuterie and wine, those four staples of French food, and he shared fascinating accounts of their history as we made our way through the gorgeous streets of Bordeaux. We visited a marvelous bakery making the highest quality organic breads, a cheese shop with one of the most beautiful collections of cheese I have seen, and a charming shop for local dessert fave Canelés (as it was Monday, the charcuteries were closed). At each store, Alexandre loaded up on specialties, which we shared during the second half of the three-hour tour in a wine bar drinking delicious wines as we discussed the history and culture of French food and French culture. The tour was both deeply educational and wildly gastronomic. A truly fantastic way to spend three hours in Bordeaux!
