Early Evening Underground Ghost Tour in Edinburgh

Overview
Get a night in Edinburgh off to a spooky start on an early evening 75-minute walking tour of the Old Town’s lanes and underground vaults. Led by a costumed guide, explore the old quarter's secret ‘wynds’ (alleys) and closes, hearing tales of their 18th-century slums and stories of murders and crimes. Then, head into the city’s underground vaults where ghosts and spirits are still said to lurk.
What to Expect
Travel independently to the tour start point in Edinburgh Old Town, and meet your guide, who will be dressed in period costume to make your experience extra atmospheric.

Then, set off along the stately Royal Mile, diving into the cobblestoned lanes and wynds that pepper the streets. Learn how, in the 18th century, the alleys housed the city’s slums, and hear about their long-ago occupants and squalid conditions. As you look around, listen as your guide recounts some of the dark events that occurred here, adding in entertaining jokes from time to time.

From here, walk on to the nearby underground vaults beneath the South Bridge. Hear about the history of the vaults, including how they were used as storehouses and homes by the city’s poor, and then head inside to explore.

Venture through the spooky chambers, listening as your guide reveals details of hauntings, murders, crimes, and paranormal events. Plus, watch unknowing pedestrians walk overhead as you gaze through a glass section of roof.

Look and listen out for ghostly goings-on as you explore, and afterward, head back to street level. Your tour finishes in the Old Town when your guide departs.

Great tour

My 9 year old daughter and I went on the tour this evening. Our host was Major Weir and despite the rain he did a great job. He was engaging and entertaining. A few scary moments which added to the excitement!
