Overview

The Edinburgh Vaults, one of the city’s most fascinating sights, can only be accessed on a tour. This one focuses exclusively on the vaults, an underground warren below South Bridge in Edinburgh’s Old Town. Step inside with a local guide who’ll reveal tales of hardship and struggle in 18th-century Edinburgh, grisly stories from the city’s dark past, and lead you to a hidden witchcraft temple.

What to Expect

Greet your guide on the Royal Mile and escape the tourist trail to discover Edinburgh’s deepest secrets on this underground walking tour through the Edinburgh Vaults. These infamous vaults fill all 19 arches of South Bridge in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. As you walk, you’ll learn the hideous conditions in which Edinburgh’s poorer citizens lived during the 18th century.

Descend into the dark, dank vaults and learn what it was like to live in the darkness—and which criminals sought their prey there. You’ll explore candlelit Niddry’s Wynd, visit a witchcraft temple with a haunted stone circle, and brave the Haunted Vault, where a myriad mysterious events have occurred.

Good guide unmet expectations though

Did the Underground Walking Tour with Ewen of Auld Reekie Tours. Ewen was informative, engaging and funny. This notwithstanding the fact that it was late afternoon and our group of three was his last tour for the day having just finished a big group tour....More

Good tour if a little short

I booked this tour over others as I did not want a ghost tour. However due to the nature of the vaults they are quite creepy and the history a bit grim so inevitably it was brought to the paranormal. Our tour guide Tuesday, was...More

No it only takes you into the vaults on Niddrys Wynd. It seems the vaults are split up between different tour groups. This tour only takes you into one small corridor with around 3-4 rooms in.

Hi, to my knowledge the answer to this is NO. I think the way the tour is structured it's not really appropriate for dogs
