Overview
This guided walk with our unique guides, Stuart Usher or his son, Richard Usher, will entertain and enthral you. Also we are delighted to introduce a new guide who will take occasional group tours; Dr Alison Duncan, who is a professional historian and Edinburgh expert. We limit the tour to 10 guests so everyone is involved, unlike tours of 30, 40 or more. Stuart's family has historic connections with Edinburgh (Stuart's great-great Uncle, Andrew Usher, donated the magnificent Usher Hall to the city as well as being known as the father of the scotch whisky blending industry).  Their deep knowledge of the cultural, historical and architectural aspects of the city means they have a unique perspective on our wonderful capital.

Your guides will show you the cultural treasures of Edinburgh, the secrets of its past and its famous characters, and are rightly renowned for their entertaining and witty commentary.

What to Expect
Meet your guide—descendants of the Usher of Usher Hall—and small group outside of Usher Hall in central Edinburgh in advance of your tour time. When booking, you can choose a morning or afternoon tour to suit your schedule. Take off down the famous Royal Mile with your guide in the lead. Don't worry about maps or directions, as you'll have expert guidance and you can just focus on the scenery and learning about the city's history. Please note that the route and itinerary can be amended depending on the group's desires. As you stroll, get a history lesson on Scotland's famous minds, including thinkers, writers, poets, and inventors. These include Deacon Brodie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Alexander Graham Bell, Robert Burns, David Hume, and Sir Water Scott. Visit some of Edinburgh's famous closes, or private alleyways, where some famous residents lived, and the St. Giles Cathedral. End up at The Mound, from where you can explore further.

Dear Allikat Many thanks for your marvellous Review. "Go Team Usher"; We just love that! Yes, that infamous Deacon Brodie was indeed the Devil in disguise. Despite that he has become something of a hero in Edinburgh! The main reason for that is that he also robbed the Government Tax Office here in Edinburgh. This is the main reason for his becoming a "hero" to the people of Edinburgh. You really must visit us again and learn about more Edinburgh …. ie its glorious Pubs and many other fascinating things. Best wishes Stuart Usher.

Dear Lee Many thanks for your great Review and we are delighted that you found it so historically interesting with Richard. Plenty of History in Edinburgh and some of it rather bloodthirsty. They did not 'play around' in those long gone years! Best wishes Stuart U

We loved the tour! Mr Usher is so knowledgeable, friendly and interesting. If not for the tidbits of information he bestowed on us, so much history and beauty of Edinburgh would have remained hidden. Now where ever we walk, we see things that would otherwise have little

Dear Glen Great thanks unto thee for thy glowing Review of your Tour with me. I recall you all well. I enjoyed the Tour as much as you did. This always happens when I host families like yours! Informed and good company to be with. My only regret was that I did not take you to a nice Pub to warm you up with a warm drink earlier on our Tour. I was not thinking straight at the time, so please excuse me. I sometimes use the café we did use but I will not use it again because of the rotten attitude of the man who took our orders. Usually the staff there are very pleasant. This chap lacked manners. Remember 'never argue with the Edinburgh weather'. You were frozen by the time I realized just how cold you were. Bad mistake on my part. Please visit again!? Best wishes Stuart U

Dear David Thank you very much for your marvellous Review. Historical anecdotes abound in all ancient cities but few cities more so than in Auld Edinburgh relative to its size! Do please come again ….. we would love to see you again. Best wishes Stuart U
