History buffs—particularly those in a hurry—should look no further than this Oxford walking tour which offers a comprehensive overview of a most historic city. Peek inside ancient colleges, admire the Bodleian Library, learn where famous writers like Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien studied, and much, much more.

What to Expect

Greet your guide and small group in central Oxford and listen to tales of Oxford history and student life as you walk. Depending on your interests and which colleges are currently open to visitors, the tour itinerary may change: if the group is particularly small, feel free to ask your guide to adjust the tour.

Besides the classic sights of Oxford city center, such as the Bodleian Library, the Sheldonian Theatre, and Christ Church, a Harry Potter film location, expect to explore inside one or two colleges. That’s usually New College (founded 1379), Exeter College (founded 1314), or St. John’s College (founded 1555), depending on the time of year.

Once your tour is complete, carry on exploring with an ILoveOxford map and savings card entitling you to discounts in cafés, shops, and restaurants.
