      Brilliant!
This is a magical experience, and one not to be missed. The guides took the time to explain everything to us, and made us feel very safe. We were fortunate to get to see some bio under an incredibly beautiful, starry sky with a brilliant full moon. Loved it!

      Great experience and team
Our guides did a great job managing the groups of boats and ensured we made it to places where we could see some bioluminescence. Unfortunately it was windy then rainy near the end , we didn’t get to see it as well as had hoped but that is Mother Nature. Our guides were also very friendly, took time to talk to their clients and provided any assistance they could.

      Essential skills course.
A worth while skills course that provides all the basics you need to kayak safely. Rueben is a friendly capable guide who makes the course fun. Aside from essentials like learning the correct paddling techniques and manoeuvring your kayak. Crucial safety skills are covered such as self rescue and helping others back into their kayak at sea. Highly recommended.

      Essential skills for kayakers
I did the fundamental skills sea kayaking course and learned more than I thought there was to know about kayaking. Most importantly, I overcame my fear of falling out and not being able to get back into a sea kayak. Also learned all about paddles and different paddle strokes, preparation, safety on the water, how to help others back into a kayak, and different types of kayaks. An enjoyable day with plenty of practical experience.

Kayaking fundamental skills course with Canoe and Kayak
With a cyclone on the way Canoe and Kayak adapted, still finding a location suitable for learning the skills we had come to practice. Even with a previous kayaking experience there was much I could learn. The fundamentals of paddling found room for improvement with expert tuition. And being in a group environment gave me more confidence to test tip out recovery techniques than I'd be inclined to do on my own. I think most people would find this water sport experience worth the time and money invested.

Highly Recommended ... Well Trained Instructor Made One Feel Safe ... Always
Instructor very well trained and informative, in teaching us safety and maneuvers in Kayaks (edging, back rowing, sweep, plus more), how to re-board our Kayak ourselves or with support from a buddy and what that assist us to do so, the different flotation devices available and how to use, items to take or attach under nets, etc. on Kayak (such as paddle bag, water bottle, dry bag containing safety 'equipment (such as: a press button pre-paid cellphone and the reasoning why a smartphone may not work, pen and paper ((for recording Incidents)), torch, PLB, sweets, etc. to name a few), how to load Kayak/s on to a vehicle by self (roller type 'gadget,' also if you had a helper, (including how the straps need to be tied at the certain points properly, otherwise your Insurance may be void, Apps to use to check weather (especially the wind in the very area we would be Kayaking), plus a Topo 50 App, the importance to inform someone reliable prior of where we were going, the time of return so that help would be called if not returned, how we could 'line up' as a group on the water (for a group chat, etc. Team work/encouragement the order of the day ... including fun and laughter. Sore muscles and bruises at the end of the day to prove that I listened to the Instructor and did the best that I could. I now have a list written of equipment/accessories, etc. required to Kayak safely. Thank you so much to the Instructor that day (Reuben), Canoe & Kayak, Waikato. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COURSE BEFORE ONE VENTURES OUT IN A CANOE/KAYAK. Plus after completing the course, there are Refresher courses, plus it enables one to join Yakity Yak Kayak Club for trips from hours to days. Ps.: the course is for teenagers (certain age and upwards),

From a kayak you will see what you will never see from a car
It was a well organized and well run introductory session for those wishing to experience the great pastime of kayaking. Instructor Sam professionally and intelligibly explained the peculiarities of behavior on the water, paying special attention to safety issues and trying to convey to us that in any non-standard situation, the main thing is self-control and the absence of panic. For the sake of this, we spent part of the time in the water, outside the kayak, which, of course, was not very warm, but absolutely necessary in order to fully experience all the delights of this kind of activity. It was a great day for me, I haven't been in a kayak for several years and it was great to have a paddle in my hand again.

      Over and Beyond
I booked in to do an introduction to sea kayaking course, I have kayaked several times before but wanted to improve my skills. The course was nearly postponed due to last minute COVID cases but as I was coming from Tauranga they went out of their way to phone around and get another participant so the course went ahead. Our instructor, Rueben was fantastic. He was present all day, totally focused to our learning and needs. I learnt more than I expected and throughly enjoyed it. I will definitely do more with this company.

      Excellent kayaking intro
This Kayak Safety Course was a great intro to paddle strokes and rescues. Reuben, the instructor, was friendly, knowledgeable and able to put paddlers of a range of skill and confidence levels at ease.

      Enjoyable day on the water
The kayak introductory skills course run by Canoe and Kayak is excellent. I had an enjoyable day out on the water learning all the paddling strokes in the morning then in the afternoon learned and perfected the way to rescue myself should I ever leave the boat involuntarily. Reuben the instructor treated me with respect and was so understanding and patient as I proceeded to undertake the execution of my new learned skills.

My friend and I added this as our very last activity in Auckland before we flew back to the US. Our guide was so friendly, informative, and made sure everyone was having a great time the entire night. It started raining during our trip so the bioluminescence was a little hard to see but it was still such a fun evening. He even offered to let us come back to try again when the weather was better. To top it off, he found our waterproof camera in the kayaks and reached out to make sure it got back to us. Highly recommend for the experience AND the absolutely stellar guide.

The guides are very nice and chill. We felt very safe in their hands. Not too strenuous. They give you a life jacket and a torch. But the water never gets that deep. You can touch the bottom with your paddle.

We paddled around, in and out of the mangroves until dark. We had a full moon. We didn't get swathes of bioluminescence but we didn't care. It was enjoyable enough just paddling in the moonlight. It was very healing/refreshing.

You get a little wet from water sloshing in when you lean too much to one side. There are no toilets or changing rooms so make sure to facilitate yourself before you arrive.

    Have fun.

We had a lovely evening. Wonderful to be out on the water, clear sky with lots of stars, calm seas. And the bioluminescence was awesome - especially the blue bow waves and the 'galaxy ' - little lights shining in the water when we dipped in our hands or paddles.

This trip was magical. Calm conditions, stars overhead, the city lights in the distance and playing around with bioluminescence. Great guides too. I can’t believe I’ve lived in Auckland my whole life and didn’t know about this experience. 10/10 would recommend!

This was my first time ever kayaking and it was an amazing experience. Ryan, Peter, and Millie were our lead guides on this night kayaking tour and they did an excellent job leading us throughout the night so big thanks to them. They were very knowledgeable and their instructions were clear and concise. I wasn’t able to get any pictures of the bioluminescence in the water but we did see them. We only saw them really as we splashed our hands or moved our paddles in the water and then they would go away so it was hard to get any pictures or videos. Regardless, it was an amazing experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it! - Nolan

From start to finish this was the best experience I’ve done in a long time. The guides Ian and Josh were awesome. They were very knowledgeable and made the experience fun, relaxing but always ensuring safety out on the water. Seeing the bioluminescence was quite surreal. I would highly recommend and will definitely book again.

If the tour's name had been "Night kayaki with the possibility to see some bioluminescence alge" then I would rate it 5/5. Unfortunately, the name and description suggest that you pay to experience something similar to what you see in added pictures, but in reality, you will experience something totally different. All we saw was a few sparks in the water and it was disappointing... However, the guides were extremely nice and knowledgeable and despite the lack of bioluminescence part, we had a good time on the water. Just like I wrote, it wasn't exactly what we expected and paid for...

What a fabulous tour! When it was completely dark, the water running from the paddles was sparkling with bioluminescence. It was so special to be out on the water seeing the clear night sky and hearing the ruru in the Okura Bush :) Great commentary and well-organised tour. Thanks guys!

The trip was perfect. Ryan was an amazing guide. Even if you’re solo I recommend going. I stayed dry and it wasn’t cold. The algae was so pretty and Ryan spent time trying to find the most concentrated spots. It was really magical. 10/10 would do again.
